Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Mounting Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) block storage makes a disk available to the instance’s operating system; it does not download or mount a YouTube playlist. If you need to process a large playlist, retrieve its entries with the YouTube Data API and optionally save your application’s local index or other data on the OCI volume. If you mean storing the actual video files, the sources covered here do not establish that workflow.
Understand the two separate jobs
An OCI Block Volume is storage attached to a compute instance. After it is connected and prepared for the guest operating system, you can mount its filesystem at a directory. A YouTube playlist, by contrast, is represented by YouTube API resources: playlist entries are metadata and references, not the video files themselves. Mounting a volume alone will not fetch playlist items or transfer videos.

For playlist processing, the volume can hold an application’s local index or other permitted data. The YouTube API handles retrieving playlist entries; the OCI guest operating system handles the mounted disk.
Attach and connect the OCI volume
Choose the instance and attachment type
- In the OCI Console, select or create a compute instance and a block volume in the appropriate region and compartment, then attach the volume to that instance.
- For a VM, choose an attachment type supported by its shape and image. OCI documents paravirtualized and iSCSI attachment types. Paravirtualized attachment is available for qualifying VMs and avoids the extra guest-side iSCSI connection commands; iSCSI is required in some instance or older-image cases. Oracle’s documented comparison says iSCSI offers greater IOPS than paravirtualized, but actual performance depends on the current shape and volume configuration. Check current compatibility and requirements before choosing.
For paravirtualized attachment, Oracle says: “For volumes attached with Paravirtualized as the volume attachment type, you don’t need to perform any additional steps after attaching the volumes; they’re connected automatically.” See Oracle’s Connecting to a Block Volume.

- Get NVMe solid state performance with up to 1050MB/s read and 1000MB/s write speeds in a portable, high-capacity drive(1) (Based on internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device & other factors. 1MB=1,000,000 bytes.)
- Up to 3-meter drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance mean this tough drive can take a beating(3) (Previously rated for 2-meter drop protection and IP55 rating. Now qualified for the higher, stated specs.)
- Use the handy carabiner loop to secure it to your belt loop or backpack for extra peace of mind.
- Help keep private content private with the included password protection featuring 256‐bit AES hardware encryption.(3)
- Easily manage files and automatically free up space with the SanDisk Memory Zone app.(5). Non-Operating Temperature -20°C to 85°C
Connect an iSCSI attachment
An iSCSI attachment generally requires a connection and login from inside the guest, unless the supported Block Volume Management plugin is configured to automate the connection. Follow the steps and commands shown for the specific attachment in OCI’s current connection instructions; do not reuse commands or device identifiers from another instance.
Check special performance configurations
If the volume uses the Ultra High Performance tier, consult Oracle’s current Ultra High Performance requirements. Oracle specifies a multipath-enabled attachment for optimal performance, and eligibility depends on the shape and image. This requirement is relevant only when using that tier.

Prepare and mount the disk in Linux
- Inspect devices. After the volume is attached and connected, list disks with
sudo fdisk -l, as in Oracle’s Linux volume tutorial. Identify the intended volume using its details and the attachment information; do not assume that a particular device name always refers to it. - Protect existing data. If the volume may contain data, verify its identity and contents before taking any action. Formatting creates a filesystem and can destroy existing data. Format only a confirmed new, empty volume, using filesystem steps appropriate to your Linux image and requirements.
- Create a mount point. Choose a directory for the filesystem and create it if needed. The mount point is where the mounted volume’s files will appear.
- Mount the filesystem. Mount the identified device or partition at the chosen directory using the operating system’s appropriate command. Oracle’s tutorial describes a new-volume format-and-mount flow; it should not be treated as permission to format an arbitrary attached disk.
- Verify the result. Confirm that the intended filesystem appears mounted at the chosen path and that the directory exposes the expected contents before configuring an application to write there.
Make the mount persistent across reboots
For automatic mounting, follow Oracle’s current Linux /etc/fstab guidance for the attachment type and image. The correct device path and options vary: Oracle documents approaches using consistent device paths as well as traditional paths. Do not copy a generic fstab line without checking that it matches your instance and volume. Oracle warns that omitting required options can cause Linux to fail to launch. See the relevant connection and boot-time mounting guidance and volume attachment instructions.

Retrieve every entry in a large YouTube playlist
- Use YouTube Data API’s
playlistItems.listmethod with the playlist ID and a page size of up to 50 entries. - Read the response’s
nextPageToken. If present, make another request with that token to retrieve the next page. - Continue until the response has no next page token. Save or update your local index on the mounted volume if that suits your application.
The method returns at most 50 playlist items per request, and each call costs one quota unit. The quota guide describes a default allocation of 10,000 units per day for most endpoints; it is a baseline, not a guarantee for every project. Check your project’s actual allocation and usage in Google Cloud Console, and budget for the number of page requests your playlist requires. See Google’s playlistItems.list reference and quota calculator.

Shared attachments and data safety
Do not mount a shared volume read/write on multiple instances and assume OCI will coordinate filesystem writes. OCI does not coordinate concurrent writes across shared attachments. If multiple instances must access the same data concurrently, use a cluster-aware filesystem or another suitable coordination layer before enabling multi-instance read/write access. See Oracle’s Block Volume overview.
