The menus and supported data formats vary by release, so verify the steps in your installed version.
What Print Merge does for school identity cards
Print Merge combines a drawing with text from a data source to create personalized documents. For school ID cards, the drawing is the card form and the data source holds the changing details, such as each student’s name and class. Prepare the student data
Make a clean table with one student per record and consistent column names. For example, use columns such as StudentName and Class; each row then contains the values for one card. The older Corel tutorial demonstrates a text file with named columns and records, and also describes importing a CSV saved from Excel. - Keep column names clear and consistent with the information the card needs.
- Check each record for missing or misplaced values before merging.
- Use only the fields required on the card; additional columns do not improve the layout.
Build the card form and insert merge fields
- Open the card design. Create or open the drawing that will serve as the reusable card form.
- Connect or create the data source. Select the student records through the Print Merge workflow available in your installed version.
- Insert the fields. Choose the source columns needed on the card, such as the student name and class, and insert their merge fields into the drawing. Corel’s current Mac help documents selecting a source column, inserting a field, and dragging it into position; Windows and older releases may present different controls. - Position and format the fields. Place each field in the intended area and choose readable type size and alignment for the card dimensions.
- Preview the merged results. Inspect records with the longest names or other lengthy values. Text fields can expand with their contents, so a field that fits a short name may overflow or crowd nearby elements when populated with a longer one. Corel tutorial: Creating a Certificate with Print Merge
Choose how to produce the merged cards

For a large merged document, Corel’s tutorial suggests keeping repeated design elements on a master layer and leaving only the variable fields where possible. This can reduce how much repeated artwork is carried through the merged pages. Corel tutorial: Creating a Certificate with Print Merge

The Hindi school-card video dates to 2017. Corel’s Discovery Center says Print Merge was enhanced in a September 2023 Subscriber Update with support for QR codes, images, and .xlsx data. Availability depends on the release and update installed, so check your version before relying on those capabilities or following older screenshots. Corel Discovery Center: How to use print merge
