Instead, Voice access uses downloadable speech-language files for recognition, while Voice Isolation has a separate model and an on-device voice signature. You can manage the language and filtering options in Voice access settings, but Microsoft documents no manual model-file browser.
Which speech models does Windows 11 use?
On Windows 11 version 22H2 and later, Voice access is the current voice-control feature; Microsoft began replacing Windows Speech Recognition with it in September 2024. Older Windows versions continue to have Windows Speech Recognition. See Microsoft’s Voice access and Windows Speech Recognition guidance.

Voice access involves two distinct downloads:
- Speech-language files: These enable recognition for a selected language. After initial setup, Voice access can work offline.
- Voice Isolation model: This is downloaded when you set up Voice Isolation. It supports a local voice signature intended to help distinguish your speech from other speakers.
These are separate features; downloading a language does not create a Voice Isolation signature.

How to set up Voice access and download a language
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Speech and turn on Voice access. You can also search for Voice access from Start.
- During first-time setup, choose a supported language and continue. Windows downloads the required language files; an internet connection is required for this initial download.
- When prompted, select and configure the microphone you want Voice access to use.
Microsoft’s Voice access setup instructions describe the download and microphone steps. No new microphone is required by the setup instructions; choose a suitable microphone already connected to your PC.

How to download or switch Voice access languages
Open Voice access settings and select Languages. The list distinguishes languages ready to use from those available to download. If a language is marked for download, download its speech files before selecting it for use. The available languages and dialects can change, so check Microsoft’s current setup page for the supported list.

How to set up Voice Isolation
- Open the Voice access bar and select Settings > Improve speech recognition > Voice Isolation.
- Allow the Voice Isolation model to download. This is a separate download from the speech-language files.
- Select the microphone you want to use and record the short sample requested by Windows. The recording creates a voice signature on your device.
Microsoft says the model runs locally, the signature is stored on the device, and raw recordings for this setup are not saved or uploaded. See Improve speech recognition with Voice access.
How to re-record or delete your Voice Isolation signature
In Voice access, open Settings > Improve speech recognition > Manage Voice Isolation. Choose the option to record again if you want to replace the signature, or delete it to remove it from the device. After deleting it, complete the recording setup again before using Voice Isolation.

These are Microsoft’s documented signature controls. The support instructions do not describe a general file browser for manually locating or managing Voice access model files.

Choose the filter from Voice access settings under Improve speech recognition. Microsoft describes Voice Isolation as useful amid other speakers or moderate noise, but it does not guarantee separation in every room or for every voice.

What to check if a language or feature is unavailable
- A language is marked for download: Connect to the internet and download its speech files before trying to use it.
- Voice access has not completed first-time setup: Finish the language download and microphone configuration while online.
- Voice Isolation is not ready: Complete its separate model download and record a signature using the selected microphone.
- Recognition struggles in a noisy room: Try the appropriate filtering option, but bear in mind that overlapping speech and very noisy environments can still cause errors.
