On PlayStation 5, manage Skyrim add-on content from Skyrim Special Edition’s main menu: choose Play, open Creations, sign in to Bethesda.net if prompted, and use Library to install, disable, or delete items. Use Load Order to review how enabled files are arranged. If a Creation causes trouble, disable it first, then delete it only when removal is intended. For persistent crashes or a game that will not start after activating many Creations, Bethesda’s escalation is restart, disable or delete the suspect item, power-cycle the console, and finally reinstall Skyrim.
What “Creations” means in Skyrim on PS5
Older guides usually call Bethesda’s add-ons “mods” or “Creation Club content.” In Skyrim Special Edition, Bethesda combined those areas into one in-game Creations menu in a December 2023 update. The old terminology still appears in support articles and player discussions, but the menu you should look for on PS5 is Creations.

The documented workflow applies to Skyrim Special Edition. It does not establish a separate PS5-only storage allowance, nor does it prove that every PC or Xbox Creation is available on PlayStation. Availability can change when a creator updates or removes an item, and a game update can temporarily make an older Creation incompatible.
Bethesda also provides a way to browse Skyrim Creations on its website. For installing and maintaining content on a PS5, however, the in-game menu is the authoritative place to view your Library and Load Order.

Prepare your account and saves before changing content
Use the account linked to the console
Creations are associated with the Bethesda.net account used in the game. If Skyrim asks you to sign in, complete that step before attempting a download. When content appears to be missing later, verify that the console is linked to the same Bethesda.net account rather than assuming the Creation has been lost.
Keep a clean save available
Adding or removing a Creation can affect a save that was made while the content was active. Before experimenting with a large change, keep an earlier save that represents your unmodified game. Bethesda’s support guidance also describes choosing the player’s original save through Select Character in the Load menu when returning to a save without Creations.
Make a backup before a reinstall
Bethesda’s PlayStation troubleshooting sequence says that reinstalling Skyrim removes the game installation, not save files. If you are concerned about losing progress, still confirm that the correct save is backed up in the PS5’s saved-data settings before uninstalling. A backup is a precaution; it does not preserve an incompatible Creation inside the game.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow to install a Skyrim Creation on PS5
- Launch The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition.
- From the opening screen, choose Play.
- Select Creations.
- Sign in to Bethesda.net if the game requests it.
- Browse or search for the Creation you want, open its details, and choose Download.
- After downloading, open Load Order and review the item’s position before starting or resuming a save.
The download step places the content on the console and makes it available to the game. It does not mean that every combination of Creations will be compatible. Read the item’s current description and update information in the Creations menu, and avoid assuming that an older guide’s ordering advice still applies after the creator has released a new version.
Install in small batches
For easier troubleshooting, install a few items, start the game, and check that the expected changes appear before adding another group. Bethesda specifically warns that downloading more than 10 new Creations at once is at risk when discussing console startup problems. This is a support warning, not a formal PS5 storage limit and not a guarantee that 10 or fewer downloads are safe. Smaller batches simply make it easier to identify which item introduced a problem.
Find installed content in Library
Open Creations and choose Library to see content associated with your account and installed on the console. Select an item to view the available management actions. Library is the right place to check whether a download completed, turn a Creation off temporarily, or remove it from the installation.
Disable versus delete
| Action | What happens | Best use | Can you reverse it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disable | The Creation remains installed but is turned off. | Diagnosing crashes, visual glitches, missing quests, or a suspected incompatibility. | Yes. Re-enable it later from the Creations controls, provided it is still available and compatible. |
| Delete | The installed Creation is removed from the console. | Permanent removal, reclaiming the item from the installation, or eliminating a known-problematic file. | You must download it again if it is still available. |
For a problem that began after installing one item, choose Disable first. Start Skyrim and test the same situation again. If the problem disappears, you have a useful diagnostic result without immediately removing the download. Delete only when you intend to remove it or disabling does not resolve the issue. Bethesda notes that Creations can be disabled from the load-order controls as well as managed through the Library.

Understand and review the load order
Choose Load Order inside the Creations menu to inspect enabled files and their placement. The order matters because Skyrim reads different files in sequence; a later file can override records supplied by an earlier one. Bethesda does not publish a universal ordering recipe for every possible combination, so do not move files according to a generic list that ignores the individual Creation’s instructions.
Bethesda’s file-type grouping
| File type | Position Bethesda describes | What you can change |
|---|---|---|
| ESM master files | Top group | ESM files may be rearranged among the top-group files, but they remain in that group. |
| ESL light master files | After ESM files, still in the top group | ESL files may be rearranged among the top-group files, but they cannot be moved out of that group. |
| ESP Creation files | After the ESM and ESL group | ESP files appear in the lower portion and can be reviewed in relation to other ESP files. |
The ESM and ESL files are therefore not simply interchangeable with ESP files. If the menu prevents a move, that restriction can reflect the file’s type rather than a controller problem.
Two conditions that can prevent changes
- Duplicate filenames: Bethesda says duplicate file names can stop you from saving a load order or from deleting or enabling a Creation. Check the filenames shown in the Creations interface and remove or disable the conflicting item when you can identify it.
- Outdated Creations: Bethesda advises making sure installed Creations are up to date. A recent Skyrim update can also leave a Creation incompatible until its creator publishes an update.
After making a change, use the menu’s save or confirmation control and verify that the order remains after leaving and reopening Creations. If the game refuses to save the change, stop rearranging files at random; check for duplicate names and outdated items first.
What to do when the Creations menu is missing
The menu should be named Creations in the current Skyrim Special Edition interface. Bethesda Support states: “In an update in December 2023, the Mods and Creation Club menus were combined into a unified Creations Menu.” The statement is from Bethesda Support’s article Why is the Mods menu missing in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?

If you cannot see Creations at all, work through these checks:
- Confirm that you launched Skyrim Special Edition rather than a different Skyrim installation or title.
- Check that the PS5 is signed in to the Bethesda.net account you use with Skyrim.
- Restart the game after completing the sign-in.
- Check for a pending Skyrim update. Bethesda says an update can make existing Creations incompatible until their creators update them; an update can also change where older instructions expect the Mods or Creation Club menu to appear.
Do not treat a missing old label such as “Mods” as proof that mod support has been removed. In the current interface, look for the unified Creations entry instead.
When a downloaded or subscribed Creation does not appear
If an item you expect is absent from Library or does not show in the game, Bethesda recommends checking three possibilities:
Rank #3
- Reawaken a Classic – Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game, now reconstructed using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to deliver realistic visuals and additional narrative depth to the iconic story that was not possible at the time of the original release.
- Modernized Gameplay – The team from 2019’s Resident Evil 2 returns to build upon the series’ modern approach to survival horror. Engage in frenzied combat with the Ganados villagers, explore a European village gripped by madness, and solve puzzles to access new areas and collect useful items for Leon and Ashley’s constant struggle to survive.
- Overwhelming Hordes – Face hordes of rabid enemies that threaten to overwhelm Leon with even more diverse methods of attack than in the original release.
- Survive on a Knife’s Edge – Years of intense training have taught Leon new ways to use his knife, helping to even the odds against the unrelenting onslaught of enemies. By parrying enemy attacks, you can avoid debilitating damage and evade lunging enemies seeking to grab Leon and hold him in place. Make smart use of scavenged knives to deliver precise finishing moves on vulnerable enemies, and even use the element of surprise to quietly dispatch unsuspecting foes before they break.

- The Creation may no longer be available on Bethesda.net. A creator or Bethesda can remove or change availability, so an old subscription does not guarantee that the file can still be downloaded.
- The console may be linked to a different Bethesda.net account from the one used to obtain the content. Sign out or relink only after confirming which account owns the item; changing accounts without checking can make a valid download appear missing.
- The local download may need to be refreshed. Remove the Creation and download it again from the Creations menu.
Re-downloading is a repair step, not a way to restore an item that has been removed from Bethesda.net. If the item is unavailable there, the in-game menu cannot retrieve it.
Recover from crashes, visual problems, or a stuck startup
Bethesda’s general PlayStation troubleshooting path escalates gradually. Follow it in order so that you do not jump to a reinstall when a reversible change would identify the cause.
1. Close and restart Skyrim
Exit the game completely from the PS5 home screen, then launch it again. A one-time loading error can clear after a full restart. If the same crash occurs at the same point, continue rather than repeatedly retrying an unchanged load order.
2. Disable the suspected Creation
Open Creations, go to Library or Load Order, select the item most closely associated with the problem, and choose Disable. Test the game with that item off. If the issue began after a new download, start with that item; if the problem affects a particular visual area or quest, use the Creation whose description covers that feature.
3. Delete the item if disabling is not enough
If the problem persists with the item disabled, or if Bethesda’s menu will not save the disabled state, select it and choose Delete. This removes the installed file. Keep in mind that a save that depended on the Creation may not behave like a completely unmodified save; use the earlier clean save when necessary.

4. Power-cycle the PS5
After disabling or deleting content, shut down the console rather than merely leaving the game suspended. Start the PS5 again and test Skyrim. This separates a persistent game-content problem from a temporary console state.
5. Reinstall Skyrim if the failure continues
Bethesda’s final general step is to uninstall and reinstall Skyrim. The guidance says the reinstall removes the game installation, not save files. Confirm your backup through the PS5 saved-data settings before proceeding, then reinstall the game and apply its updates. Re-download Creations gradually instead of restoring a large batch at once.

When PS5 startup is stuck after many Creations
Bethesda has a separate console-startup article that explicitly directs PS5 players whose game is stuck loading after activating many Creations to uninstall and reinstall the whole game. The same article warns that downloading more than 10 new Creations at once is at risk. Neither statement is a published storage capacity or a promise that a particular number will work; it is troubleshooting guidance for a failure state.
A practical maintenance routine
Use this sequence whenever you add or change content:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Confirm you are in Skyrim Special Edition and signed in to the intended Bethesda.net account.
- Keep an earlier save before installing a large or unfamiliar Creation.
- Download a small batch from Creations rather than adding more than 10 new items at once.
- Open Library to verify that each download is present.
- Open Load Order and check the file’s type and placement.
- Start the game and test the feature affected by the new content.
- If something fails, disable the newest or most relevant Creation before deleting anything.
- Only re-enable a disabled item after the game works without it and you have a reason to test it again.
This routine gives each change a clear before-and-after state. It also preserves a diagnostic path: you know which item was active when a problem first appeared and which change removed it.
Choosing the right action for common problems
| Symptom | First action | If it continues |
|---|---|---|
| A new crash or visual glitch | Disable the recently added or relevant Creation. | Delete it, test an earlier save, then power-cycle the PS5. |
| Cannot save a load-order change | Check for duplicate filenames. | Update installed Creations and retry; do not assume every file can leave its ESM/ESL group. |
| Cannot delete or enable an item | Look for duplicate filenames and confirm the Creation is current. | Disable other conflicting content, restart Skyrim, and retry. |
| Subscribed item is absent | Check Bethesda.net availability and the linked account. | Remove the local entry and download it again. |
| Creations menu is absent | Look for the unified Creations label and verify sign-in. | Restart Skyrim and check for a game update. |
| PS5 remains stuck loading after many activations | Follow Bethesda’s disable/delete and restart steps. | Power-cycle, then reinstall Skyrim if the startup failure persists. |
Limits of what Bethesda’s guidance establishes
Bethesda’s support material explains the menu, installation actions, file-type grouping, account checks, and recovery sequence. It does not publish a current PS5-specific Creation storage capacity in the guidance described here. It also does not provide a complete list of platform restrictions for every Creation. Do not infer a PlayStation limit from PC or Xbox instructions.
Likewise, the “more than 10” warning is not a measured performance statistic, a hard download cap, or a guarantee that ten items or fewer will never cause trouble. Treat it as a reason to install in smaller batches, especially when you are building a new load order.
Bottom line for PS5 players
Use Creations—not the old separate Mods or Creation Club labels—to manage Skyrim Special Edition content. Install through Play → Creations, verify downloads in Library, and inspect placement in Load Order. Disable before deleting when diagnosing a problem, watch for duplicate filenames and outdated files, and confirm the Bethesda.net account when content disappears. If a large set of activations leaves Skyrim stuck at startup, follow Bethesda’s escalation through restart, content removal, power cycling, and, if necessary, a full reinstall.
