To stop a Fire tablet from responding to Alexa’s wake word, turn off Hands-Free Mode on the tablet. To review or delete past Alexa recordings, use Alexa Privacy in the Alexa app or Amazon’s Alexa privacy settings page. These are separate controls: switching off hands-free does not erase history, and deleting history does not disable wake-word access.
Amazon’s instructions cover different Fire tablet generations and software versions, so menu names and supported features may vary. Check the controls available on your own device.

How do I turn off Alexa on my Fire tablet?
On a compatible tablet, open Settings > Alexa > Hands-Free Mode and switch it off. Amazon also documents controls in Quick Actions. Outside Show Mode, use the Alexa Hands Free icon; in Show Mode, use the Alexa Microphone/Camera control. Another option is to press and hold Volume Up and Volume Down together for three seconds.

Can I see what Alexa heard?
Yes. Open More > Alexa Privacy in the Alexa app, or use Amazon’s Alexa privacy settings page. In Alexa History, you can review records that may include streamed audio, Alexa’s transcription, typed requests, and responses.
Amazon says wake-word spotting happens on the device. After the wake word is detected, the tablet streams audio to the cloud, including a fraction of a second from before the wake word. This means the audio sent for a request can include that brief lead-in; it does not mean the tablet continuously sends all surrounding audio to the cloud.
How do I delete Alexa recordings or change how long they’re saved?
In Alexa Privacy, review history and delete records individually, or choose an automatic deletion setting. Amazon lists options to delete voice recordings after 3 months or 18 months, as well as an option not to save voice recordings.

With the no-save option, Amazon says recordings are deleted after processing. Transcripts and typed requests are still retained for 30 days after the last interaction in a chat. This setting is therefore not the same as keeping no Alexa-related history at all.
Choose the retention setting that fits your preference: a longer period leaves more history available for review, while a shorter period or no saved voice recordings reduces how long recordings are retained. Amazon notes that deleting recordings may affect features such as Voice ID.
What does deleting Alexa history remove?
A deletion request starts Amazon’s secure deletion process; it is not necessarily an immediate wipe of every record related to an interaction. Amazon says processing time varies, and data requested for deletion may still be used for personalization while the request is being processed.
The Alexa history control may not remove related information held by skill developers, information stored outside Amazon’s cloud, other interaction records, or data that has been de-identified so it is no longer linked to an account. Amazon’s Alexa FAQ describes these limits.

How do I stop Amazon collecting app usage data on a Fire tablet?
App Usage Data is a separate device privacy setting, not Alexa voice history. To opt out, open Settings > Apps & Games > Collect App Usage Data and change the setting. Amazon says privacy settings are device-specific, so check the setting separately on other devices and profiles you use.

Is Voice Access the same as Alexa?
No. Voice Access is an accessibility feature, not Alexa voice history or hands-free wake-word control. Amazon identifies Voice Access for Fire HD 10 (13th Generation) and says it is available when the device language is English. Its settings are managed through the tablet’s accessibility controls; changing Alexa recording preferences does not configure Voice Access. See Amazon’s Fire tablet accessibility instructions.
