To manage Copilot in Outlook, first identify which Outlook app you use: the dedicated Copilot switch is available in Outlook for iOS, Android, Mac, on the web, and new Outlook for Windows. Classic Outlook for Windows has no estimated availability date for that switch in Microsoft’s guidance. If you want to change broader AI-related privacy controls instead, those settings are separate and can affect other connected features.
Turn Copilot off in Outlook
Microsoft’s platform availability information is dated June 3, 2025; menu labels and availability may change. Use the path for your Outlook client:

| Outlook client | Path or availability | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| iOS or Android | Quick Settings > Copilot | Update Outlook to the latest app version if the toggle is missing. |
| Mac | Quick Settings > Copilot | Microsoft specifies Outlook version 16.95.3 or later. |
| Outlook on the web | Settings > Copilot | Microsoft says no update is needed. |
| New Outlook for Windows | Settings > Copilot | Use the dedicated Copilot setting. |
| Classic Outlook for Windows | No toggle availability date announced | Microsoft’s guidance does not provide an estimated date for the on/off toggle. |
In clients that offer the control, the dedicated Copilot switch is the direct Outlook setting. Microsoft describes it as hiding Copilot entry points, including “Summarize this email”; it is not the same as turning off every connected experience. Preferences can roam across Outlook clients on a per-account basis, subject to eligibility. Copilot preference sharing is not available in classic Outlook for Windows. Microsoft’s Copilot toggle guidance explains the feature and its limitations.
Change broader privacy and connected-experience settings
These controls govern more than Outlook’s Copilot entry points. Their exact scope depends on the client and account:

- Outlook for iOS and Android: Settings > General > Privacy Settings. For a Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com account, the settings can apply across Microsoft 365 apps. For Gmail, Yahoo, IMAP, or POP3 accounts, Microsoft says they apply only to the Outlook app and device.
- New Outlook for Windows: Settings > General > Privacy and data > Privacy settings. These settings apply to the app and device; choices for work or school accounts may depend on organization policy.
- Microsoft 365 desktop apps: In Outlook, go to File > Account > Manage Settings under Office Account to manage connected experiences.
In Microsoft’s guidance for personal Microsoft 365 Copilot, the two connected-experience options that affect Copilot availability are Experiences that analyze content and All connected experiences. Turning either off makes Copilot features unavailable in Outlook and other listed Microsoft 365 apps. See Microsoft’s connected-experiences overview and Copilot privacy guidance for Microsoft 365 apps.
What broader privacy controls can disable
Turning off connected experiences can disable features beyond Copilot, including cloud-backed capabilities such as document co-authoring and online file storage. Some essential services remain, including Outlook mailbox synchronization, and Microsoft says required service data may still be collected and sent to Microsoft. Choose these settings only if you want their wider effect, rather than simply hiding Copilot entry points.

Understand account, organization, and privacy scope
Before changing a privacy option, check which account is selected and whether it is personal, work, or school. Mobile privacy settings can cover Microsoft 365 apps for Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com accounts, but are limited to the app and device for Gmail, Yahoo, IMAP, and POP3 accounts. On new Outlook for Windows, the settings apply to the app and device, while an organization can determine which work or school choices are available. Microsoft’s Outlook privacy-setting instructions detail these platform and account differences.

It also says personal data collected through Microsoft 365 connected experiences is not used to train large language models. This statement is specifically scoped to personal/home use; it should not be generalized to every work or school configuration. Eligibility for Copilot preference sharing also depends on connected experiences and age requirements. For Microsoft 365 Family, Copilot access is limited to the subscription organizer.

| Your goal | Setting to use | Trade-off or scope |
|---|---|---|
| Hide Copilot entry points in a supported Outlook client | Dedicated Settings or Quick Settings > Copilot toggle | Direct Outlook control; availability depends on client. |
| Make Copilot unavailable across Microsoft 365 apps | Turn off Experiences that analyze content or All connected experiences | Can also disable other connected features. |
| Adjust privacy choices for Outlook on a phone or new Outlook for Windows | Privacy Settings in the relevant app | Scope depends on account type, device, and organization policy. |
If you use classic Outlook for Windows and need to hide Copilot now, Microsoft has not announced when its dedicated toggle will arrive. The broader Microsoft 365 connected-experience controls may affect Copilot availability, but their wider impact makes them a different choice from the Outlook-specific switch.
