You can manage a bhajan livestream from your phone while OBS runs on a separate computer: OBS does the encoding and sends the broadcast to YouTube, while your phone connects to OBS WebSocket as a remote control. OBS documents phone and tablet control when both devices are on the same local network. For a truly remote connection from another network, the sources available here do not establish a safe, supported setup—do not expose OBS WebSocket directly to the internet.
What runs where in this setup?
The computer running OBS is the encoder host. It must stay on, run OBS, and maintain its connection to YouTube for the broadcast to continue. Your phone is a control client: it can send supported commands to OBS, but it does not replace the encoder or carry the stream in this arrangement.

YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a stream URL and a stream key entered in the encoder settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel’s stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to set up an encoder through Live Control Room.

Set up phone control for OBS
1. Check that the channel can livestream
Before configuring OBS, verify that live streaming is enabled for the YouTube channel. YouTube’s eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements for the current requirements for your account.

2. Configure OBS as the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or select the stream you intend to use.
- In OBS, open the stream settings, choose the YouTube service or enter the provided stream URL, and supply the stream key as required by the selected setup.
- Keep the key private. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS before broadcasting again.
The exact OBS labels can vary by version and account workflow; follow the stream URL and key shown for your stream in YouTube Live Control Room rather than reusing a key you cannot identify.
3. Enable OBS WebSocket and connect the phone
OBS WebSocket is included by default in OBS Studio 28 and later. OBS lists compatible remote-control clients including Touch Portal and OBS Blade. Install a client you trust, enable WebSocket access on the OBS host, and connect from the phone. OBS’s documented phone or tablet case is control over the same local network.

Require WebSocket authentication and use a strong, private password. OBS recommends protecting WebSocket with a password against unauthorized control. Its documentation does not establish a safe, supported method for controlling an OBS host from a different network. Avoid router port-forwarding or other direct internet exposure unless you have a separately validated secure design; do not disable authentication to make pairing easier. 4. Test the actions before relying on the phone
While both devices are on the same local network, confirm the client can connect with authentication enabled and test the OBS actions you actually need, such as starting or stopping the stream or changing scenes. Client capabilities differ, so confirm that your chosen app exposes the controls your workflow requires. Do a rehearsal before leaving the encoder unattended.

Monitor the broadcast and plan for interruptions
Watch connection and stream health
Check stream health in YouTube Studio and OBS. OBS associates dropped frames and intermittent disconnections with an unstable connection to the ingest server or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Monitor audio and video quality, connection status, and local recording-file growth rather than assuming that a connected phone means the broadcast is healthy. YouTube’s guidance on live-streaming errors and stream health can help diagnose stream issues.
Set a recording and archive plan
YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If a replay matters, consider ending and restarting sessions before they reach that boundary, and enable a local recording backup in OBS with enough disk space for the expected duration. Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24-hour YouTube session to produce a complete replay. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams and DVR on live streams.

A local recording is only useful if the encoder host has room to store it and the files are checked. Monitor that the recording is growing, preserve completed files somewhere with adequate capacity, and include recording storage in the operating plan.

A devotional or traditional subject does not, by itself, establish that a particular recording is cleared for livestreaming. Check rights for the actual composition, arrangement, performance, and sound recording used. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for necessary rights—including music licensing rights—on the provider. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party matches; a match can interrupt or terminate a stream.

Even if you have licensed third-party content, YouTube warns that the stream may still be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Resolve permissions and any required allowlisting with the relevant rights holders before going live. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and its copyright guidance for live streams.
Common problems and what to check
- The phone cannot find or connect to OBS: Confirm both devices are on the same local network, WebSocket is enabled on the OBS host, and the client is pointed at the correct host and port. Keep authentication enabled and check the password.
- The phone controls OBS but the YouTube stream drops: Phone control does not guarantee the encoder’s connection is stable. Check OBS dropped frames and connection status, YouTube stream health, and whether the host’s connection can sustain the selected bitrate.
- The YouTube replay is missing or incomplete: Check whether the session exceeded 12 hours. Longer streams may not be captured, and DVR may be limited or unavailable. Use shorter sessions when an automatic archive matters and make a local recording.
- The stream is interrupted despite using devotional music: Review the rights for the exact audio and confirm any required Content ID allowlisting with the rights holder. The genre or traditional character of a song does not clear a particular recording.
- OBS is still running but the broadcast is not dependable: Confirm audio/video quality, bitrate sustainability, and local archive-file growth. A phone remote is a control path, not a substitute for monitoring or a recovery plan.
