To make a Samsung Galaxy phone louder, first identify what is quiet: media, a call, the ringtone, notifications, or system sounds. Each has a separate volume control, so raising one slider may not affect another. For headphones or Bluetooth audio, also check whether Media volume limit is restricting playback.
Start with the sound that is too quiet
Galaxy phones separate several sound types. Samsung’s US support guidance describes individual controls for media, calls, ringtone, notifications, and system sounds. The right adjustment depends on what you are listening to.

- Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume.
- Move the slider for the sound type that needs adjustment.
You can also press a volume key to open the volume control, then expand its menu to adjust other sound types. If you use a volume key while media is playing, check that you are changing media volume rather than a different slider. The exact controls can vary by software version.

Make a caller easier to hear
Call audio has its own adjustment. While you are on the call, press the Volume up key to raise the call volume; changing media volume outside the call will not do the same thing. Samsung documents this approach in its low call volume troubleshooting.
If call audio remains hard to hear, check that a phone case or screen film is not covering the receiver opening. This is especially relevant when the other person sounds faint through the earpiece.

Check the limit for headphones and Bluetooth audio
If connected headphones or a Bluetooth speaker stops getting louder, check Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume > More options > Media volume limit. Samsung’s US instructions say this limit applies to headphones or Bluetooth speakers and is intended to help protect hearing. On-screen labels and availability can vary by device.

Treat the warning as a safety feature, not an obstacle to disable by default, and listen at a comfortable level.

Rule out mute settings and Do not disturb
If sound is missing or unexpectedly low across several parts of the phone, check the relevant volume slider and whether Mute all sounds is enabled. On supported devices, look under Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements. Samsung says this setting can mute media, notifications, system sounds, and the other person’s voice during calls. Its no-sound troubleshooting guide also recommends checking Do not disturb and restarting the device where appropriate.

These options can make connected listening more suitable for an individual listener, but Samsung’s guidance does not establish them as ways to increase the built-in speaker’s maximum output. Availability and menu paths vary by model and software version.

Route app audio to a Bluetooth speaker if the phone speaker is not enough
Samsung’s Separate app sound feature can send selected app media to a Bluetooth speaker or headset separately from the phone’s other sounds. It changes where that app plays; it does not increase the output of the Galaxy phone’s built-in speaker. A portable Bluetooth speaker is an optional external listening device, not a software boost to the handset. See Samsung’s Separate app sound instructions.
If the sound is still quiet
- Confirm you adjusted the slider for the sound that is actually too quiet.
- For a call, raise volume while the call is active and make sure the receiver opening is not obstructed.
- For connected audio, check Media volume limit and the device’s Bluetooth connection and output level.
- If multiple sound types are muted, check Mute all sounds and Do not disturb, then restart the phone if appropriate.
Samsung’s support instructions are primarily scoped to the US, and features or labels may differ in other regions and on different Galaxy models or software versions. If the controls do not resolve a persistent sound problem, use Samsung Support for device-specific troubleshooting.
