On a supported Samsung Galaxy, open Quick settings, tap Screen recorder, choose the audio and other options shown, then tap Start recording. A countdown begins the capture; use the on-screen toolbar to pause or stop it. The video is saved in Gallery’s Screen recordings folder.
Start and stop a screen recording
- Open the screen or app you want to capture.
- Open Quick settings and tap Screen recorder. If the button is not visible, check the panel’s edit controls or available buttons and add it. The exact editing steps depend on your device’s panel layout.
- Choose from the recording options displayed, such as sound, capture area, or whether to show taps.
- Tap Start recording. Samsung’s Ireland instructions describe a three-second countdown; the Canada guide says its described interface can skip the countdown.
- Use the recording toolbar to pause, resume, or stop. Some supported interfaces also offer drawing or writing on the screen and a selfie-video overlay.
- Open Gallery and look for Screen recordings.
Choose what the recording captures
Sound
The start prompt may offer no sound, device or media audio, and microphone or ambient sound. Labels and combinations vary by device and software version, so check the choices shown on your phone before you start.

Screen area and touch visibility
Some versions let you record the full screen or a selected area, and let you show or hide touch locations. These options are not available on every model or interface.

Samsung documents the default save location as Internal storage > DCIM > Screen recordings; the save location can be changed in settings. Recording preferences are under Settings > Advanced features > Screenshots and screen recordings. Depending on the software, the last part of that menu name may instead say “screen recorder.” Available settings can include sound, video quality, video size, selfie-video size, and whether taps appear.

Quick settings gestures can vary
In Samsung Canada’s One UI 7 (Android 15) guide, swiping down from the top right opens Quick settings, while swiping from the top left opens Notifications. That page also describes a setting to combine the panels. Other software versions or regional layouts may use different gestures; Samsung notes that menus and screen layouts can vary by device, software, and app version. The Canada guide applies to devices sold in Canada.
Check whether your Galaxy supports Screen recorder
Samsung Gulf describes Screen recorder as available on Galaxy devices with One UI 2 or later, while Samsung’s Ireland and Canada pages provide model lists that include many Galaxy S, Note, and Z devices. These regional guides do not establish support for every Galaxy model, software build, or recording option. Check whether Screen recorder appears in Quick settings and consult Samsung support for your exact model and region.

Recording limits and protected content
Samsung’s Ireland and Canada guidance states that on Android 10 with One UI 2.5, a recording is limited to up to one hour or 4 GB. For Android 11 with One UI 3.0 or later, Samsung states there is no recording-time or file-size limit. That is the stated software limit, not a guarantee that a recording can continue beyond available storage, battery, app, or device constraints.
