Some providers offer network-specific dial codes; others require support or may not allow an extension. There is no single code that works across carriers.
How do I change the number of rings before voicemail picks up?
First, identify your carrier and, if you use an MVNO, the network your line runs on. Then ask whether that specific line can have a longer unanswered-call delay. AT&T directs customers who want more time to contact support. US Mobile publishes self-service instructions for two of its networks, but not a universal procedure for every line. The available guidance does not establish a complete policy for every U.S. carrier, plan, or device.

Carrier-specific options
AT&T
AT&T’s “Use Voicemail on Your AT&T Mobile Phone” page says customers who want more time before calls go to voicemail should contact AT&T. It lists 611 from an AT&T Wireless phone, as well as separate customer-service numbers for postpaid and prepaid customers. The page, last updated May 5, 2025, does not give a specific adjustment code or maximum duration, so ask support what is available for your line rather than trying a code from another carrier.

US Mobile’s Advanced setup page describes ring-time adjustment for its Light Speed and Dark Star networks. It lists selectable intervals of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 seconds. The instructions are specific to those networks; confirm which network your line uses and follow the current help page before entering a code.

US Mobile says Warp lines ring for 30 seconds and that this duration cannot be changed. It also says Dark Star customers using an iPhone should have iOS 18.5 or newer. These distinctions matter: do not assume a code or instruction for one US Mobile network applies to another.
Verizon
In a Verizon Community thread, a Verizon Support response describes an approximately 30-second network ring time that cannot be extended. Other Verizon Community support answers indicate that the number of audible ring cycles can vary with ringtone or signal. Because this is forum guidance rather than a formal current support article, contact Verizon to confirm what applies to your line.

Why a ringtone change may not give you more time
“Number of rings” and “ring duration” are not the same thing. The carrier’s timer determines how long an unanswered call can ring before forwarding to voicemail. A ringtone affects what you hear during that interval: a different ringtone may produce more or fewer audible cycles, and a louder alert may make a call easier to notice. Neither changes the carrier’s timer on the evidence available here.

What to do if you cannot extend the timer
- Ask your carrier whether the unanswered-call delay can be changed for your specific line, and what limit applies.
- If your carrier publishes a self-service procedure, verify your network and device eligibility on its official help page before using it.
- If the delay cannot be changed, choose a more noticeable ringtone or alert setting to help you catch calls sooner. This improves audibility, not the time before voicemail.
