To make a Kindle Colorsoft last longer between charges, lower its front light to a comfortable level, put it to sleep when you finish reading, and switch on Airplane Mode when you do not need wireless access. If the device is new or has just downloaded many books, give it time to finish setup and indexing before judging its usual battery life.

Setup and book indexing can temporarily use more power
Amazon says battery use can increase during the first few days as books download and updates install. After a download, the Kindle indexes books to make them searchable, which also affects battery life. Amazon does not specify a fixed indexing period or an exact normal drain rate for the Colorsoft. Lower the front light
Amazon notes that Kindle models with a built-in light use more battery. Reduce the Colorsoft’s front-light setting to the lowest level that remains comfortable for your reading conditions. There is no universal brightness number to aim for; choose based on the room and your comfort.

Put the Kindle to sleep after reading
Press the power button briefly when you finish reading to put the device to sleep. Amazon also recommends enabling Power saver, which puts the Kindle into low-power sleep after a period of inactivity. Find it under Settings > Device Options > Power Saver. These are manufacturer recommendations; Amazon does not quantify the runtime saved by either change.
Use Airplane Mode when you do not need wireless
Airplane Mode disables Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the Colorsoft. Turn it on when you are reading downloaded books and do not need a wireless connection. Syncing, downloads, and updates that depend on wireless will wait until you turn connectivity back on, so download books and sync first if you will need them offline. What to expect from the Colorsoft battery-life claim
Amazon Staff announced “up to eight weeks of battery life” for the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition on October 16, 2024. This is a conditional maximum claim from Amazon, not a guarantee for every reader or a result independently established for typical use. When battery life still seems unusually short
Once initial downloads, updates, and indexing have finished, try the light, sleep, and wireless adjustments above. If battery life still seems unexpectedly poor, contact Amazon device support for help rather than assuming a defect or attempting an unverified repair.

Charging cable note
A compatible USB-C cable can be useful if you need a replacement or more convenient way to charge; Amazon identifies USB-C charging for the Colorsoft and recommends a compatible USB cable, preferably the one supplied with the device. A cable helps you charge the Kindle but does not extend its runtime between charges.
