You can often get more time from an iPhone without switching off calls, notifications, or other essentials. Start at Settings > Battery, find what is actually using power, then make focused changes to the display or network. Save Low Power Mode for when you need a stronger, temporary reduction: it changes some background and display behavior.
Find out what is draining your iPhone first
Battery use varies with how you use your phone and its settings, so a broad settings reset may not address the cause. Open Settings > Battery and review any suggestions or Insights. Apple’s current guidance says Daily Usage compares today with the previous seven days; availability of Daily Usage and Adaptive Power requires iOS 26 or later, and the screen may differ by model or software version. Look at the app and system activity details, not just the overall percentage. High on-screen use can indicate that you spent a lot of time using an app. Background activity, low cellular coverage, or notifications can also appear as contributors. Those clues point to different remedies: reduce unnecessary screen-on time, improve the connection, or adjust notifications for the particular app rather than disabling features across the phone. The screen is one of the first places to make a targeted adjustment. Apple may recommend enabling Auto-Brightness or Auto-Lock, or lowering unusually high brightness. These changes can reduce display power use while leaving your phone’s communications and core features available.

- Lower brightness: Open Control Center and drag the brightness control down to a comfortable level. There is no need to make the screen difficult to read.
- Enable Auto-Brightness: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Auto-Brightness. The display adjusts to ambient light rather than remaining brighter than needed.
- Choose a suitable Auto-Lock interval: Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and select an interval that suits your use. A shorter interval saves power when the phone is left awake, but may lock the screen while you are still reading.
Apple identifies high brightness and long periods before Auto-Lock as possible contributors in its battery-drain guidance. If your own usage details do not implicate the display, changing these settings may have little effect.
Reduce avoidable network drain without losing connectivity
Weak reception can make connectivity more demanding. Apple says Wi-Fi uses less battery than cellular for internet use, and a strong Wi-Fi or cellular signal uses less power than a weak one. Connect to reliable Wi-Fi when practical, or move to a place with better reception if the usage details point to low cellular coverage.

On a supported 5G iPhone, consider Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data > 5G Auto. With 5G Auto, the phone can switch to LTE when 5G does not noticeably improve the experience. Menu names and availability can vary by model, carrier, and iOS version; Apple describes the network recommendations in its battery-drain guide.

Airplane Mode is not a general battery-saving setting if you need calls or mobile data. Use it only when you know you will have no coverage and do not need connectivity during that period. Turning off connectivity that you rely on trades away the feature rather than making it last longer in a useful way.

Choose between Adaptive Power and Low Power Mode
For a less hands-on approach, Adaptive Power makes modest adjustments when it predicts you may need more battery. Low Power Mode is the stronger option for a temporary battery reserve, but it restricts more conveniences. Apple’s Power Modes guide describes the built-in choices.

To enable Adaptive Power, open Settings > Battery > Power Mode > Adaptive Power, if available on your iPhone. To turn on Low Power Mode, use Settings > Battery > Power Mode or add its control to Control Center; paths can vary across iOS versions. Separate daily runtime from battery health
Settings can reduce avoidable power use, but they cannot restore capacity lost through battery aging. Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures. For iPhone 15 and later, Charge Limit lets you set a maximum charge; Optimized Battery Charging delays charging past 80% in certain situations. These are intended to reduce long-term battery wear, not to extend today’s charge.
