Limit who can see your Discord profile details
In Discord, open User Settings > Data & Privacy > Profile Privacy. Choose the narrowest audience that fits how you use Discord. Labels or menu locations can change as Discord updates its apps.

| Profile Privacy audience | Who can see full profile details |

| Friends & All Servers | Your friends and people in all servers you have joined |
| Friends & Small Servers Only | Your friends and people in joined servers with 200 or fewer members |
| Friends Only | Your friends |
Discord says enabling Profile Privacy hides your custom status, pronouns, badges, connected accounts, bio, widgets, and wishlists from people outside the selected audience. It does not make your profile anonymous: your avatar, banner, display name, username, server tag, account age, and mutual friends and servers remain visible. See Discord’s Profile Privacy explanation.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteHide or narrow your activity sharing
Profile Privacy does not control whether others can see your activity, such as the game you are playing. Open User Settings > Activity Sharing and review the global activity-sharing switch and the default audience for sharing activity. You can also adjust activity sharing for individual servers and review connected-account sharing. See Discord’s Activity Sharing FAQ.
If you want to limit exposure, turn off activity sharing or choose a narrower audience, then check each server and connected account. A server-specific setting is not a global privacy guarantee: someone may still see activity through a friendship or another server where sharing is allowed.

Control DMs and friend requests separately
A private profile does not prevent people from sending you a friend request, and it does not by itself block direct messages. Open User Settings > Content & Social and review both DM permissions and friend-request permissions.
- Server-member DMs: Decide whether to allow direct messages from people in servers you share.
- Friend requests: Review the available request categories. You can deselect every category if you do not want requests through those routes.
- Specific users: Use Block for an individual whose contact you want to stop.
These controls are distinct from profile visibility. Discord’s Blocking & Privacy Settings page describes the available contact controls.

Review Message Requests and spam filtering
Message Requests help separate messages from people you may not know. Discord says the feature is enabled for everyone, but teens and users whose adult age group is unconfirmed cannot turn it off until adult status is confirmed. For adult accounts, availability and behavior can depend on account and server settings. Review the Message Requests and spam-filter options under Content & Social; do not assume every account can disable requests. Details are in Discord’s Message Requests guide.
Choose what Discord may use your data for
Data-use preferences affect how Discord uses account data; they are not visibility controls and do not replace DM or profile settings. In User Settings > Data & Privacy, review the options for improving and personalizing Discord. Discord’s support documentation places these controls under Privacy & Safety > How We Use Your Data in some descriptions, so the exact path may vary.

Request a copy of your Discord data
A data package is an inspection tool, not a privacy setting. Discord says its ZIP file can include account information and settings, IP address, active sessions, relationships, messages, activity, and server information. Request it through User Settings using Discord’s data-package option. Store the downloaded ZIP carefully because it may contain private messages and other sensitive account details. See Your Discord Data Package.

Recognize genuine Discord messages
Be wary of anyone claiming to be Discord support who asks for your password or account token. Discord states: “Discord will never ask you for your password or account token.” Its official messages carry an OFFICIAL badge and special explanatory text in the DM. Check those indicators rather than trusting a message’s wording or display name. Details are in Discord Official Messages.
