Restore your internet connection first, then check whether Wirecast has resumed sending its feed and whether YouTube’s Live Control Room shows the stream as healthy. Telestream’s version history documents that Wirecast automatically reconnects after internet service returns following an outage, but the retrieved entry does not identify its release number—and it is not a guarantee that every version or YouTube event will resume automatically.
What happens when the connection drops
There are two separate states to check: Wirecast’s encoder output and YouTube’s live event. Wirecast sends the video feed; YouTube controls whether the event is waiting, live, or stopped. A restored encoder connection does not, by itself, establish that the YouTube event has resumed for viewers.

Telestream’s version history says Wirecast no longer hangs when it loses internet and automatically reconnects after the connection is restored. The available entry does not show which release it applies to. Check your installed version and test the behavior before relying on it during a broadcast.

Restore and verify internet access
Confirm the computer can reach the internet and that the connection is stable. If Wirecast remains offline, do not assume that changing a YouTube setting or key will repair the network path.

Check Wirecast’s output and installed version
Look at Wirecast’s output status after the connection returns. If it remains down, check whether your installed build includes the documented reconnect behavior. The version-history excerpt does not identify the fix’s release number, so do not infer one from a separate version entry. If the behavior remains unclear, contact Telestream support and provide Wirecast’s support information.

Check stream health in YouTube Live Control Room
Review the stream status and health in Live Control Room. If the encoder reports an error while starting, YouTube advises checking the stream key and updating the encoder with the key shown in Live Control Room. That guidance addresses a start error; it is not a general fix for a network interruption in the middle of a stream.

Determine whether the feed or the event needs attention
YouTube’s Auto-start and Auto-stop settings determine whether an encoder can start or stop the live event. They are not documented as network-reconnect controls. For scheduled streams, follow the workflow shown in Live Control Room: YouTube’s encoder instructions say to wait for the preview and click Go live when that workflow requires it.

Diagnose a feed that is healthy but still causing problems
If Wirecast appears to be sending a healthy feed but viewers still have trouble, check the encoder output, CPU load, local archive, and outbound internet connection. YouTube advises contacting your internet provider or reporting the issue to YouTube if the problem persists.

Check bandwidth and computer load
Telestream identifies insufficient upload capacity and high CPU use as possible contributors to dropped frames, stream termination, or exceptions. If the available upload capacity cannot sustain the stream, reduce its data rate, frame rate, or frame size. Telestream’s support material gives differing CPU thresholds in separate passages, so there is no single threshold to apply here.
- Check whether the connection has usable outbound internet access, not just a connected Wi-Fi icon.
- Compare the stream’s data rate with available upload capacity; reduce the data rate, frame rate, or frame size if capacity is insufficient.
- Check CPU load and Wirecast’s output rather than assuming every interruption is a YouTube event or stream-key problem.
- Use YouTube’s stream health and, when available, Wirecast’s local archive to help distinguish an encoder issue from a network issue.
When to reset the stream key—and when not to
A stream key is the credential Wirecast uses to send its feed to YouTube. Check or update it if YouTube reports an encoder start error, or reset it if you believe the key has been compromised. A key reset is not a reflexive remedy for a mid-stream internet outage: first restore the connection, check Wirecast output, and inspect YouTube’s stream status.

Plan for another interruption
Wirecast reconnecting after service returns is different from failover to a second encoder. YouTube recommends testing failover when a backup encoder is actually configured: stop the primary encoder or disconnect its Ethernet cable, then confirm that the player switches to the backup. That test does not apply to a single-encoder setup.
YouTube also advises monitoring streams continuously and stopping the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube. Test the recovery workflow before an important broadcast so you know whether your Wirecast version reconnects and what action your scheduled event requires.
