ScreenshotX is a Windows snipping tool built around presentation: it says it can center a capture on a solid-color background, then lets you style or mark up the image with background, brush, highlight, color-picking, and blur tools. Here’s how to use its listed capabilities, what to expect, and what to check before sharing a screenshot.
What ScreenshotX does—and what it does not yet offer
ScreenshotX describes itself as lightweight freeware for Windows, with no ads, spyware, or registration. Its official page lists version 1.1 for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, with setup and portable downloads. The page lists a 3.0 MB file size but does not give a release date for version 1.1. These are the publisher’s descriptions, not independently tested findings. ScreenshotX’s official product page also lists 21 built-in translations.

The tool’s distinctive feature is “automatic balancing”: ScreenshotX says it detects a solid-color background and centers screenshot content against it. The page also lists background styling, brush drawing, highlighting, color picking with complementary colors, and blur for sensitive information. Text and annotations are marked “coming soon” on the page, so do not count on them as available features.

How to create a framed screenshot
1. Choose a download
Use the setup build if you want a conventional installation. Choose the portable build if you prefer a single executable that, according to ScreenshotX, can be run and removed afterward. The official page does not specify additional installation requirements.

2. Capture the area or window you need
ScreenshotX names area and window captures in its feature list. Select the relevant mode in the app and capture the content you want to present. The product page does not document hotkeys or a more detailed capture sequence.
3. Give the image a deliberate frame
When the capture suits a solid-color backdrop, use the stated automatic balancing to center its content. Then use the listed background, brush, highlight, color picker, or blur tools as needed. For a clean result, keep the frame restrained and use blur on details that should not remain legible. ScreenshotX’s page does not enumerate specific styling settings or export formats.

4. Save locally or decide whether to share
If you only need an image for your own document or presentation, use the app’s save option. If you choose Share, read the privacy implications first; sharing is not the same as keeping a screenshot on your device.
Before using Share, understand the privacy trade-off
Privacy: ScreenshotX says Share uploads the screenshot to its cloud and returns a URL without requiring an account. Its privacy text states: “If you use the Share feature, you do so understanding that the shared screenshot will be stored online and can be accessed by anyone who knows its URL.” The page says shared images are automatically removed after 30 days and that version 1.1 lets users delete an image in the app or through its administrative URL. These are ScreenshotX’s stated terms and policy, not an independently audited guarantee. Inspect the image and blur sensitive information before uploading it.

ScreenshotX separately says the application does not collect information about the user or computer. That claim does not make Share local-only: using Share uploads the image. Avoid sharing screenshots that expose account details, private messages, internal documents, or other information you would not want someone with the link to see.

Windows includes Snipping Tool, which Microsoft documents for Windows 11 and Windows 10. Its support page lists more capture modes and editing options than ScreenshotX’s feature page documents. Choose based on the job rather than assuming one tool is universally better.

If you need a full-screen or freeform capture, cropping, shapes, or text extraction, Microsoft’s documented Snipping Tool functions may fit better.
