How to Make Website Thumbnails for a Tamil-Language Blog Links Page

A practical guide to creating consistent thumbnails for a Tamil blog links page and setting up the separate image, title and description shown when pages are shared.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a Tamil-language blog links page, make a consistent image card for each destination, then set the page’s social-preview image separately. The thumbnail readers see beside a link on your blog and the image a service fetches when someone shares a URL are two different things; you may need both.

First decide which thumbnail you need

  • Link-page card: An image, title and optional short description displayed beside a link on your blog’s links page.
  • Social preview: The image, title and description that a platform such as Facebook or WhatsApp fetches when someone shares a page URL.

A card on your links page does not automatically control what appears in a social share. Build the card layout and set the shared page’s metadata as separate tasks.

Choose how to build the link cards

Approach Best fit Trade-off
Manual image cards in your page editor You want direct control over each image, crop and layout. You maintain the image, title and link for every card yourself.
WordPress card block Your links page is on WordPress and you want cards to draw on existing post data or destination metadata. Automatic details depend on the destination exposing usable metadata; check plugin compatibility and maintenance for your WordPress installation before relying on it.
Hosted link-in-bio page You want a separate, hosted landing page rather than cards inside your existing blog. This adds another publishing destination to manage. Canva describes templates, brand styling and responsive previews for this use; its feature information says free sites can use a Canva subdomain, while a unique or existing domain requires Pro. Plan terms can change.

WordPress card block option

The WordPress.org directory lists Custom Card Link – OGP Blog Card Block as free and GPL-licensed. Its listing describes internal cards using a post’s title, excerpt and featured image, and external cards retrieving title, description and image from Open Graph metadata. It also describes card and list layouts, spacing controls and responsive card images. Treat those as documented listing features, not a guarantee of compatibility with every current WordPress setup.

Make a consistent card for each link

  1. Inventory the destinations. For every URL, write a short identifying title, an optional one-line Tamil description and choose a representative image. Confirm that each image accurately signals the destination.
  2. Set a reusable visual style. Decide on a consistent crop, background treatment, color palette and typography. A reusable design template can help; Canva is one option, not a requirement.
  3. Check Tamil lettering at actual size. Use the real Tamil copy and intended typeface in the design. Inspect glyph shapes, word spacing and contrast after the image is reduced to its on-page card size, preferably on a phone. Keep overlaid wording brief so it remains legible.
  4. Build cards with clear hierarchy. Let the image identify or reinforce the link, and show the title as readable text in the page layout rather than relying on tiny lettering baked into the artwork. Include a concise description only if it helps visitors choose.
  5. Review the complete page on mobile. Check that cards remain easy to scan, images crop sensibly, and titles or Tamil descriptions do not become cramped.

Set the image and text used when a page is shared

For each page readers may share, choose its intended featured image and provide a useful title and excerpt or description. WordPress.com says it adds og:title, og:description and og:image tags to posts and pages. Its support guidance says the page title, excerpt and featured image are used for a preview; when there is no excerpt, it may use the first 195 characters of the content, and when there is no featured image it searches other images on the site. Setting a deliberate featured image helps avoid depending on that fallback selection.

Social-preview image dimensions

WordPress.com Support’s 2026 general guidance recommends a 1200 × 630 px canvas with a 1.91:1 aspect ratio, JPG or PNG format, and a file under 5 MB as a safe standard. Keep essential visual details near the center because platforms can crop previews.

The same support site’s 2026 Facebook guidance gives a 200 × 200 pixel minimum, recommends at least 600 × 315 pixels for larger images, and gives 1200 × 630 pixels for high-resolution displays. It states an 8 MB maximum for Facebook. That platform-specific ceiling does not replace the broader under-5-MB safe recommendation.

Test the rendered preview and refresh stale shares

  1. Inspect the actual page URL. In WordPress.com, the Jetpack Link Preview panel can check previews on listed platforms. A design-file preview alone cannot show how a social service will render the page.
  2. Check the target platform. WordPress.com identifies Facebook Sharing Debugger for checking Facebook and WhatsApp previews, and LinkedIn Post Inspector for LinkedIn.
  3. Allow for caching. Social services cache page details, so changing an image may not change an already-cached share immediately. WordPress.com says X re-indexes card tags roughly every seven days.
  4. Investigate filename-related Facebook issues narrowly. WordPress.com lists special or language-specific characters in an image title as a possible Facebook preview problem. If Facebook reports that issue, rename and re-upload the image using a plain filename, then request a fresh scrape. This is a troubleshooting case, not evidence that Tamil text itself is unsupported.

Troubleshooting common thumbnail problems

  • The links page shows no image: Check that the card points to a valid image and that the page layout actually includes an image field. For a WordPress block pulling an external card, inspect whether the destination supplies Open Graph metadata.
  • A shared page shows the wrong image: Set the intended featured image and verify the page’s social preview. A platform may have selected another site image when no featured image was set, or may still be showing cached data.
  • The new image does not appear after an update: Recheck the share preview with the relevant inspector and request a fresh scrape where available. Cached previews can take time to refresh.
  • Tamil text is hard to read on the card: Test the real typeface and copy at the final display size, shorten the overlaid wording, and verify contrast and spacing on a phone.
  • A Facebook preview has a filename or image-title warning: Try a plain filename, upload the image again and request another scrape, following WordPress.com’s troubleshooting guidance.
  • A card plugin behaves unexpectedly: Confirm current compatibility and maintenance in the plugin listing and test both an internal post and an external destination. External metadata retrieval depends on the destination page.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need an actual screenshot of a destination page as a thumbnail asset, ScreenshotNeo can capture it with one GET request. It is a screenshot API and MCP server; it does not replace writing card titles or setting social metadata. The API accepts options for output formats such as PNG, JPEG or WebP, and PDF, among other capture controls.

Example using cURL (replace the target URL as needed; the response is saved as WebP):

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request details. Cookie banners, popups and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for the free plan.

Keep the two outputs aligned

Use the same visual identity across the links-page cards and social images, but select and test each output in its own context. The card should be readable within your blog’s layout; the share image should match its page metadata and survive the preview behavior of the platform where it will appear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a different image for every link?

Not necessarily, but each card should use an image that helps identify its destination; repeating a generic image can make a links page harder to scan.

Can I use a screenshot as a social-preview image?

Yes, if it represents the page clearly and remains legible in a cropped preview. A screenshot capture does not itself set the page’s Open Graph metadata.
