How link preview images are chosen
A link preview is assembled by the service that reads the shared page. The Open Graph Protocol defines four required properties for a page: og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url (Open Graph Protocol). The image property points to an image representing the page’s object; the URL property identifies the canonical page URL.

For a Hindi link directory, each entry should have metadata describing the destination page, rather than inheriting one unrelated image and title from the directory homepage. Metadata makes a preferred image available to preview consumers, but individual services may interpret it differently.

Choose an image that represents the destination
Use an image relevant to the specific linked destination. Google Search Central recommends representative images, avoiding generic images such as a site logo and images containing text in this metadata context; it also advises avoiding extreme aspect ratios and using high-resolution images where possible (Google Search Central image guidance). Google selects images for search automatically, so an og:image declaration is not a promise that a particular image will appear in every search context.

- Prefer page-specific visuals. A destination-relevant image better communicates what the directory entry links to than a repeated logo.
- Keep the composition adaptable. Preview cards can appear at different sizes and crops. Avoid making tiny text or details essential to understanding the image.
- Use images you are entitled to publish. An image visible on a linked site is not automatically available for copying or redistribution. Use an original image, a properly licensed asset, or one you have permission to use.
- Keep language in the metadata. Write the page title and description in clear Hindi where that suits the audience. If artwork includes Hindi text for a design reason, inspect the rendered glyphs at likely display sizes; the official guidance cited here does not establish Hindi-specific fonts, sizes, or layouts.
Prepare the image and publish it at a stable URL
Export the visual in a format your intended sharing service can retrieve, then host it at a URL that remains available. The Open Graph property is a URL; the protocol does not prescribe a hosting provider. The official guidance cited here also does not establish one universal pixel dimension, file-size limit, or crawler-access guarantee for every preview service. Verify the deployed page using the app or service where the directory will be shared.
For images used in Google-facing metadata, follow Google’s advice to use a relevant, representative image without embedded text, avoid extreme ratios, and provide high resolution where possible. For Apple Messages, Apple recommends using og:image and avoiding text in preview artwork because it can appear at different sizes; metadata text can also be accessed by VoiceOver (Apple Developer, TN3156).

Add Open Graph metadata to each directory page
Place the metadata in the HTML <head> of the page that represents the directory entry. Replace the example values with the actual Hindi title, canonical URL, and image URL.

- Open the published directory-entry URL and confirm its page title, canonical URL, and image URL are correct in the HTML head.
- Confirm the image URL loads as an image rather than a login page, error page, or redirect to an unavailable resource.
- Share the page in the actual messaging app or service your readers use and inspect the resulting title, image, and crop.
- If the result differs across services, treat that as a platform-specific rendering difference; the available official guidance does not establish one rendering guarantee or cache-refresh timing for all clients.

Is there one required image size for every link preview?
The official sources cited here do not establish a universal pixel size or rendering rule for all messaging and search services. Use a relevant image with a non-extreme aspect ratio and test it in the intended service.
