Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, start with the game’s own image and HDR calibration controls, then make small, reversible changes and check them against subtitles, the HUD, and varied scenes. Add a PC post-processing mod only if those controls do not give you the look you want. There is no established universal “painterly” setting, and a softer or more stylized grade can also make text, edges, or scene detail harder to read.
Confirm your platform and version first
The remaster launched on September 29, 2026, as a free same-platform upgrade for existing owners. CD PROJEKT RED says it includes updated tone mapping and HDR calibration options, along with changes to textures, models, lighting, bloom, reflections, and other effects. Those changes mean instructions for an older PC build or preset may not carry over. Check that you are running the remaster and identify your platform before changing settings. CD PROJEKT RED’s remaster announcement and its change list describe the release and visual updates.

Begin with the remaster’s built-in image controls
- Open the game’s image and HDR calibration controls. Review the available options before installing anything; the remaster’s update notes confirm that these controls and tone mapping were revised, but do not specify an optimal painterly configuration. CD PROJEKT RED’s update notes
- Change one control at a time and keep a before-and-after comparison available. Use modest adjustments so you can identify what each setting changes and undo it if detail or contrast suffers.
- Check the same adjustment in dialogue with subtitles and the HUD visible, then in a dark interior or night scene, bright daylight, foliage, faces, and high-contrast edges. Treat these as practical checks, not as a published or controlled readability test.
- Back off if shadows merge into an indistinguishable mass, pale text loses contrast, foliage turns into visual noise, or edges look artificially outlined. Aim for a more unified or softly graded image without erasing the cues that make objects and text easy to identify.
Choose a PC post-processing option only if needed
If the built-in controls do not provide enough grading flexibility, PC players can consider a color-grading mod or a ReShade preset. Before installing one, check its current file notes for remaster-specific compatibility, requirements, and HDR cautions. The RenoDX listing describes post-processing and color-grading adjustments and warns users to consider ReShade presets and HDR. A listing that describes the effect is not, by itself, proof that a particular setup has been tested on your remaster version.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchPC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Use one added post-processing layer at a time. That makes it easier to tell whether the new look comes from the mod or the game’s own controls, and to remove the layer if it compromises legibility. No cited source establishes a measured performance impact or a readability winner among presets.
Judge a preset in more than one scene
A fixed grade can look different as weather, time of day, location, or display settings change. The Wild Hunt Re-Imagined page explicitly notes this limitation. Compare a candidate in interiors and exteriors, under different lighting and weather, and with your usual display settings before deciding to keep it. A striking screenshot from one location is not enough to show that a preset will remain readable throughout the game.
Do not assume the old HD Reworked mod is required
The remaster already updates various textures and models based on HD Reworked Project assets, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s remaster notes. The older HD Reworked Project listing includes OldGen-specific directions and optional ReShade information; that does not establish compatibility with the September 2026 remaster. Check the listing’s current version notes before considering it, rather than installing it automatically.
What to compare before settling on a look
| Approach | What it can change | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in image and HDR controls | The remaster’s image calibration and tone-mapping options. | Whether the adjustment improves the overall grade while preserving text contrast, shadow detail, and bright-scene detail. The official notes do not prescribe a painterly setting. CD PROJEKT RED update notes |
| Color-grading mod | Post-processing and color grading; the RenoDX listing describes these kinds of adjustments. | Current remaster-specific requirements and notes, HDR behavior, and whether the result remains readable in multiple scenes. Compatibility across remaster setups is not established by the cited listing. RenoDX listing |
| ReShade preset | A fixed post-processing look that may create a more stylized grade. | Current version notes, HDR behavior, scene-to-scene consistency, and text and edge clarity. A fixed preset may vary with weather, time, location, and display settings. Wild Hunt Re-Imagined page |
The available sources do not establish which community presets have been tested against the September 2026 remaster across different GPUs, HDR configurations, and displays. If a preset’s current compatibility notes or version information are missing, treat compatibility as unconfirmed rather than assuming it will work.
Keep the modding tools in perspective
REDkit is CD PROJEKT RED’s toolkit for creators to edit game content such as quests, items, characters, animations, storylines, and territories. It supports the wider modding ecosystem, but it is not a consumer post-processing product for quickly changing image grading. CD PROJEKT RED’s REDkit page
