To make the iPhone Camera app remember selected settings, go to Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings and turn on the switch for each item you want it to keep. These are separate controls, and the options available depend on your iPhone model and iOS version.
Turn on Preserve Settings

Open Settings on your iPhone.

Tap Camera, then Preserve Settings.

Turn on the switch next to each setting you want Camera to retain when you open the app again.

Apple describes these options as a way to save the last camera mode, filter, lighting, depth and Live Photo settings used so they are not reset the next time Camera opens. There is no single switch that preserves every setting: enable the relevant options individually. The precise list varies by model and iOS version. Apple’s iPhone User Guide explains the available controls.

Choose what Camera should remember
| Preserve setting | What it retains |

| Camera Mode | The last-used mode, such as Portrait or Pano. |
| Photographic Style | The selected style, on supported iPhone models. |
| Creative Controls | Creative camera settings. |
| Depth Control | The depth setting used for a shot. |
| Macro Control | The Macro setting, on supported iPhone models. |
| Exposure Adjustment | The exposure adjustment. Apple lists this option for iPhone 11 and later. |
| Night Mode | The Night mode setting, on supported iPhone models. |
| Portrait Zoom | The Portrait zoom setting, on supported iPhone models. |
| Action Mode | The Action mode setting, on supported iPhone models. |
| ProRAW & Resolution Control | ProRAW and resolution choices, on supported iPhone models. |
| ProRes | The ProRes setting, on supported iPhone models. |
| Live Photo | The last-used Live Photo state. |
Not every iPhone displays every option. If a switch listed here is missing from your Preserve Settings screen, check the iPhone’s on-device menu; availability depends on the model and iOS version.

Keep Live Photo or exposure from resetting
Live Photo
First set Live Photo to the state you want in the Camera app. Then open Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings and enable Live Photo. Apple says this option saves the Live Photo state and is on by default. See Apple’s instructions for saving camera settings.
Exposure Adjustment
If exposure control resets after you reopen Camera, enable Exposure Adjustment under Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings. Apple’s camera tools guide says exposure control otherwise resets when Camera is reopened; it lists this preserve option for iPhone 11 and later. Apple’s camera tools guide covers exposure adjustment.
