To enlarge supported text on an iPad, open Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size and move the slider. For larger accessibility text, use Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text. If by “bigger apps” you mean a more readable app screen, you can also set visual options for individual apps, open content in Accessibility Reader, or magnify the screen with Zoom. These controls do not necessarily enlarge every app icon or interface element.
Choose the setting that matches what you want to enlarge
| Option | What it changes | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Text Size | Supported text across apps | A quick, everyday adjustment |
| Per-App Settings | Text and other visual settings for a selected app or Home Screen & App Library | Changing one app without applying the same settings everywhere |
| Accessibility Reader | Text from an app in a customizable full-screen reading view | Reading content in a cleaner, larger layout |
| Zoom | The whole screen or a selected region | Magnifying content that does not respond adequately to text-size controls |
Make supported text larger across apps
- Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size.
- Drag the slider toward the larger-text setting until the text is comfortable to read.
Apple says this changes font size in Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Phone, Notes, and other apps that support Dynamic Type. Apps that do not support the relevant text-size controls may not change.

Use larger accessibility text
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text.
- Turn on the larger accessibility text option if shown, then move the slider to the size you need.
Apple cautions that text set too large can make buttons or other app functions harder to tap. If that happens, reduce the size until both the text and controls are usable.

- Open Settings > Accessibility > Per-App Settings.
- Tap Add App, then choose an app or Home Screen & App Library.
- Open the entry you added and adjust the available settings.
Per-App Settings lets you use different text-size, color, and motion settings in selected apps or on the Home Screen and App Library. It customizes supported visual settings; it is not a control that enlarges every icon or every element in an app.

Read app content in Accessibility Reader
Accessibility Reader presents text from an app in a full-screen reading view, which can be easier to use than enlarging the app’s own interface.
- Enable it at Settings > Accessibility > Read & Speak > Accessibility Reader.
- Start Reader from Control Center, the Accessibility Shortcut, or an app’s Share menu.
- In the reader, adjust the text size, font, boldness, theme, spacing, and readable content width to suit you.
Reader changes how text is presented for reading; it does not resize the app’s underlying controls. Availability of some separately documented features can vary by software version, language, region, or device support. Apple Intelligence is not required just to change the reader’s text size.

Magnify the screen with Zoom
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Zoom and turn on Zoom.
- Choose a full-screen, window, or pinned zoom region, depending on how you want magnification to appear.
- Turn Zoom on or off with a three-finger double-tap or your Accessibility Shortcut. Use three-finger gestures to adjust magnification and pan around the screen.
Unlike Text Size, Zoom magnifies what is displayed—including content that may not resize through an app’s text settings. Because it enlarges the screen or a region rather than changing the underlying text size, you may need to pan to see content outside the magnified area.
If the settings are missing
Settings labels and paths can vary by iPadOS version. If a path above does not match your iPad, check the Apple guide for the version installed on your device. Apple’s current iPad user guide includes an overview of vision accessibility features: Vision accessibility on iPad.
