Make your smartwatch’s widget or tile strip easier to use by keeping only the information and actions you reach for regularly, removing duplicates, and moving the most-used items closer to the start. The exact controls differ: Apple Watch offers a context-aware Smart Stack, while Wear OS and Samsung Galaxy Watch let you manage tiles or widgets on the watch and, on supported setups, through a phone app.
Choose what earns a place on your watch
Start with your routine, not a target number of widgets. Keep information you check often and actions you repeatedly launch. Remove entries you rarely use, and consider dropping a tile that duplicates a watch-face complication unless having both placements serves a distinct purpose. These are practical ways to simplify access, not a tested formula for productivity or a universally optimal layout.

- Keep: recurring information or actions you want to reach with a glance or a short swipe.
- Remove: seldom-used entries and duplicates without a clear purpose.
- Customize: where a widget or tile lets you choose the contact, location, data, or option that matters to you.
- Reorder: put frequent entries where they take fewer gestures to reach, if your watch supports it.
Revisit the set when your routine changes. Apple’s Smart Stack may suggest widgets or actions based on context and routine, but automatic suggestions will not necessarily match every wearer’s preferences.

Names vary by platform, and the terms do not describe exactly the same features. In Apple’s watchOS 26 terminology, a control is primarily for performing an action, a widget displays information, and a Live Activity represents an event with a clear start and end. Apple says its Smart Stack can offer context-relevant suggestions and configurable widgets. These distinctions apply to Apple’s platform and release, not to every smartwatch: Apple Developer’s WWDC25 session on what’s new in watchOS 26.

Wear OS: add, move, or remove tiles or widgets
Google’s instructions describe managing tiles or widgets on the watch or through a Wear OS or companion phone app. Availability and labels can differ across watches, software versions, and companion apps; the guide specifically notes a different removal gesture on Wear OS 2.
Manage them on the watch
- Wake the screen and swipe right to left. Google says tiles or widgets are reached by swiping left from the watch home screen.
- Touch and hold, swipe to the end, then tap Add tile or Add widget.
- To move an entry, touch and hold it and use the arrows.
- To delete one, long-press it and tap the minus sign. On Wear OS 2, Google says to swipe up to remove it.
Manage them in the phone app
- Open the Wear OS app or the watch’s companion app.
- Under Settings, choose Tiles or Widgets.
- Tap Add and select an option. Drag entries to move them, or swipe left to right to delete one.
If the phone app does not show Tiles or Widgets, Google advises checking for a Wear OS or companion-app update. See Google’s Wear OS help page for its instructions.

Samsung Galaxy Watch: manage tiles or widgets
Samsung documents adding, removing, and rearranging entries on the watch or through Galaxy Wearable on supported models. Available settings can vary by watch model, provider, and phone, and some models may require management through the app. The steps below reflect Samsung’s described flow; your labels may differ.

- Choose Add widget or Add tiles, then select an available option.
- To remove an entry, touch and hold it and tap the red minus icon.
- To rearrange entries, touch and hold one and drag it to the desired location.
Manage them in Galaxy Wearable
On supported models, open Galaxy Wearable and use its tile or widget controls to add or remove entries and drag them into a new order. Samsung says certain tiles can be edited, but its described Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 flow does not let users create their own tiles. Its support page states that recent Galaxy watches can have up to 15 tiles; that is a product limit, not a recommended target for your setup. Check Samsung’s tile and widget support page for model-specific details.

What a simpler layout can—and cannot—promise
The official platform guides explain how to configure these surfaces; they do not establish a best item count or compare clutter-reduction strategies in user testing. The keep, remove, customize, and reorder suggestions here are practical heuristics, not measured guarantees of faster task completion, better health outcomes, or longer battery life.
