OBS’s standard Text Source displays editable text; the official OBS guide does not describe it as automatically syncing with YouTube playlist changes.
First decide what should update
- Only the video: Add a playlist-capable player as an OBS Browser Source. The player, rather than OBS’s Text Source, handles playlist advancement.
- The title or thumbnail too: Use a player or overlay that can read the active video’s identity and redraw its metadata when playback changes. A playlist player alone may not update a separate label.
- Both: Configure the playlist player and confirm its metadata display follows each transition.
OBS provides Browser Sources for webpages and Text Sources for customizable text. Its documentation also describes VLC playlist support for local media, not for consuming a YouTube playlist. OBS Sources Guide

Set up playlist playback in OBS
- Choose a playlist-capable player. One community example is OBS-Youtube-Player. Its README describes using a YouTube video or playlist URL and options including
loop,random, andtitle, with styling hooks for title and author. It is a third-party project, not a built-in OBS feature. Follow its current README for the exact URL format and parameters. - Add it to the scene. In OBS, select the target scene, then go to Sources → + → Browser Source. Enter the player or overlay URL in the source properties and set the source dimensions to suit your scene. OBS’s source order controls which sources appear above others. OBS Sources Guide
- Configure playlist order and behavior. Use the player’s playlist URL and its documented options to select the starting item and set loop or random behavior as needed. If order matters, do not enable random playback. The player’s URL options govern its playlist behavior; OBS source settings do not set YouTube’s playlist state.
- Arrange and size the source. Place the Browser Source where the video should appear. Move it above sources that should sit behind it, then resize or crop it using OBS transforms. If an overlay is obscured, check the source order before changing its URL.
- Test playback in the scene. Preview at least two consecutive playlist items and confirm that the second actually starts. Test the intended order and looping behavior, and reload the Browser Source to check how it recovers. Embed playback and autoplay can depend on YouTube and the player, so verify the result in your own OBS and channel setup before going live.
Make the title or thumbnail follow the new video
The metadata needs access to the active video’s identity and a way to redraw when that identity changes. If the playlist player does not expose current-video information, a separate static label cannot infer which item started. Use an overlay or player that supports current-video metadata, or add that behavior to the browser page with code that listens for video changes.

OBS-Youtube-Player documents an optional current-title display. Treat that as a feature claimed by the third-party project and verify it with consecutive playlist items in your setup. If you build a custom overlay, test the title and thumbnail independently from playback: a video can advance while the displayed metadata remains stale.

OBS’s Sources Guide describes Browser, Text, and VLC-enabled Media Sources. Its Sources Guide wiki also documents browser webpages as sources and URL drag-and-drop as a way to create one; some source properties may be set through URL arguments.
Troubleshoot a playlist overlay that does not update
The video advances, but the title or thumbnail stays the same
The player and metadata display are not synchronized, or the player does not expose the current video. Use an overlay or player with current-video metadata support, or implement transition handling in the browser page. Test each transition rather than assuming a title option works in every current setup.

The title changes, but the video does not advance
Check that the URL identifies the intended playlist and review the player’s playlist, starting-index, and loop settings. Confirm the behavior in the Browser Source preview; OBS’s general source controls do not advance a YouTube playlist.

A VLC playlist was recommended for YouTube
VLC playlist support in OBS refers to local media capability. For a YouTube playlist, use a playlist-capable browser player instead.
A URL will not create the expected browser overlay
Add it as a Browser Source and inspect its source properties. OBS’s wiki documents drag-and-drop URLs as another way to create a browser source, and notes that some properties may be preconfigured through URL arguments; those arguments depend on the page or player.

When promotion is the goal rather than playlist tracking
Meld’s YouTube Promo Widget is described by its vendor as showing a selected latest upload for 30 seconds and repeating every 10 minutes. The vendor says it can be added to OBS through Spark Plug as a Browser Source and that a new video URL can be set with Meld Spark, with the setting persisting between sessions. That is a way to promote a selected upload, not an automatic overlay that detects the next item in an existing playlist. Check the vendor’s current documentation for availability and setup details.
