To make an FTB Infinity Evolved server, download the official Infinity Evolved 1.7 server installer for release 3.1.0, place it in a writable server folder, and run it with Java 8. The pack targets Minecraft 1.7.10, uses Forge 10.13.4.1614, and needs at least 4 GB of RAM. After the installer creates the Forge files, accept Mojang’s EULA, start the generated server script, and have every player install the same 3.1.0 client pack. You can run the server on your own computer or use managed Minecraft hosting.

What you need before installing
Infinity Evolved is a large, legacy Feed The Beast pack with more than 150 mods. The official description says it is intended for small to medium population servers, but actual capacity depends on world activity, loaded chunks, CPU performance, storage speed, and what players build. The published requirements are the correct starting point, not a guaranteed player limit.

| Component | Required target | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | 1.7.10 | The pack’s mods and Forge build were made for this Minecraft release. |
| Forge | 10.13.4.1614 | This is the modloader version documented for Infinity Evolved. |
| Infinity Evolved release | 3.1.0 | Clients and server must use the same pack release. |
| Java | Java 8 | The official version page lists Java 8; newer Java versions are not a drop-in replacement for this old Forge stack. |
| Memory | At least 4 GB of RAM; 4 GB recommended | The official requirement is a baseline for the server process, not necessarily the entire operating system. |
| Disk and network | Writable storage and a stable connection | The installer must create many files, and players need uninterrupted access while exploring and generating terrain. |
Confirm the current pack entry and requirements on the Feed The Beast Infinity Evolved 1.7 version page. The official server-files page describes its modpacks as “All of our Modpacks are server ready!” and provides the server installer used below.

Use the 1.7 server-files entry
Open the official Infinity Evolved 1.7 server-files page. Select the server download for the 1.7 pack and verify that the release shown is 3.1.0. Do not substitute a client launcher download, a different Infinity Evolved edition, or an unofficial repack. A mismatch can leave the server with missing mods or give players a different set of recipes and configuration files.

Create a dedicated folder first
Create a new folder used only by this server, such as an InfinityEvolvedServer folder on a drive with sufficient free space. Avoid protected locations that require administrator permission and avoid a path synchronized continuously by cloud-storage software. The installer needs to create and later modify configuration, world, log, and library files.
Download the installer into that folder. Keeping the installer and generated files together makes backups, upgrades, and troubleshooting easier. If your operating system warns about a file downloaded from the internet, confirm that you obtained it from the official FTB page before allowing it to run.

Install Java 8 and verify the runtime
Infinity Evolved’s 1.7.10/Forge combination is a legacy Java application. Install a 64-bit Java 8 runtime appropriate for your operating system, then verify which Java executable the server will use. In a terminal or command prompt, run:
java -version
The output should identify Java 8. If it reports a newer major release, install Java 8 alongside it and point the server launcher to the Java 8 executable, or adjust your system’s PATH so the command used by the installer resolves to Java 8. Do not assume that the newest Java release will load every 1.7.10 mod correctly; a runtime mismatch commonly appears as an early crash, class-version error, or a server that exits before creating a world.
On a machine that hosts other applications, explicitly configure the generated launch script to use the Java 8 path rather than changing the global default. That keeps this old server isolated from newer software.
Run the installer and generate the Forge server
- Open the dedicated folder. Confirm that the downloaded server installer is inside it and that your account can create files there.
- Run the installer. On Windows, launch the downloaded installer. On another operating system, use the execution method supplied with the download and make sure it invokes Java 8. The installer downloads or unpacks the Forge server and the pack’s server files into the folder.
- Wait for file generation to finish. A first run can take time because the pack contains many mods and libraries. Do not terminate it while files are being created.
- Read the generated output. The installer normally leaves a Forge universal jar, libraries, configuration folders, and a launch script. Use the script created for your platform instead of guessing a jar filename.
- Accept the EULA after reading it. The first server start creates an
eula.txtfile and stops. Open it, read Mojang’s EULA, and change the acceptance line toeula=trueonly if you agree to the terms. - Start the server again. Run the generated launch script, or launch the generated Forge server with Java 8 as directed by the installer. Leave the process running until the console reports that the server is ready for connections.
Do not start by adding extra mods or copying an existing world. A clean first launch tells you whether the official files, Java version, and permissions are correct. Once that baseline works, stop the server normally before changing settings.

Set the basic server properties
After the first successful start, stop the process with the server’s normal shutdown command and open server.properties. Set the name, difficulty, game mode, view distance, and other options for your group. Keep the file’s syntax intact: use one key=value setting per line and do not add quotation marks unless the existing format requires them.

Choose a memorable server name and decide whether the server should use a whitelist. A whitelist is appropriate for a private group because only approved usernames can join. Test the setting with one operator account before inviting everyone.
Give yourself operator access
Use the server console to grant operator permissions to the account that will administer the world. Console commands do not require you to be logged into the game and are useful when the server is running on a remote machine. Treat operator access as administrative power: it can change modes, alter the world, and affect every player.
Back up before inviting players
Stop the server cleanly, copy the complete world folder and the server configuration to a separate location, and label the backup with the date and pack release. Repeat backups before major construction, mod changes, or mode changes. A backup stored on the same disk protects against configuration mistakes but not disk failure, so periodically copy one to another device or host.
Make the server reachable
Self-hosting on a home network
For a server on your own computer, allow the Java server through the operating system firewall and configure your router to forward the Minecraft port selected in server.properties to the host computer’s local address. Give that computer a stable local address so the forwarding rule does not silently point to another device later.
Test locally first. Join using the host computer’s local address, then test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot. If local access works but outside access fails, inspect the firewall, router forwarding rule, and whether your internet provider places the connection behind carrier-grade NAT. Do not publish your home address more widely than necessary; share the server address only with intended players.
Running on a remote Linux host
Upload the generated server folder to a directory owned by the account that will run Minecraft. Install Java 8 for that host, make the generated launch script executable, and start it inside a persistent terminal session or service so a disconnected SSH window does not stop the process. Keep the console available for shutdowns and log inspection, and restrict file permissions so unrelated users cannot edit the world.
Open only the configured Minecraft port in the host firewall. The server does not need a graphical desktop; use the generated no-GUI launch option or script on a remote machine. Monitor disk space because world generation and logs grow as players explore.

Keep every client compatible
Each player must install the Infinity Evolved 1.7 client pack at release 3.1.0 and use Minecraft 1.7.10 with the pack’s Forge 10.13.4.1614 build. A client on another release can fail during login, report missing mods, or connect with recipes and configuration that do not match the server.
Give players the exact release information before they connect:
- Infinity Evolved 1.7, release 3.1.0
- Minecraft 1.7.10
- Forge 10.13.4.1614
- Java 8 for the client launcher where required by that launcher
Do not copy a player’s personal configuration over the server’s files. Client key bindings, graphics settings, and screenshots belong on the client; server configuration and world data belong in the server folder. When diagnosing a connection problem, first have the player launch a clean instance of the exact pack release rather than changing several mods at once.
Recommended Free Tools
Choose Normal or Expert mode
Normal mode
Normal mode uses the pack’s standard progression and is the simpler choice for a mixed group or a first shared world. Players can explore the mod collection without the additional recipe gates and progression constraints used by Expert mode.
Expert mode
Expert mode changes progression recipes and gates, making many items require longer chains of machines and resources. It is a ruleset choice for the whole server, not a per-player difficulty toggle. Joining players are switched to the server’s selected mode.
Switch the mode
An operator can run the following command in game or in the server console:
/ftb_mode set expert
To return to Normal, use:
/ftb_mode set normal
The pack listing documents both commands and the server-wide behavior on its Infinity Evolved listing. Stop the server and make a complete backup before changing mode. A mode update does not technically require a world reset, but a fresh world is strongly recommended for Expert because existing builds, inventories, and partially completed progression can become awkward or impossible to balance under the new recipes. If the group has already invested heavily in Normal, discuss whether to start a separate Expert world rather than altering the established one.

Troubleshoot the first launch
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The installer cannot write files | Protected folder, read-only media, or insufficient permissions | Move the installer to a dedicated folder owned by your account and confirm free disk space. |
| The process exits immediately | Wrong Java major version or a Java path the script cannot find | Run java -version, install/select Java 8, and edit the launch script’s Java path if necessary. |
| The server stops and asks about the EULA | The acceptance file has not been set | Read the EULA, change the value to eula=true if you agree, then start again. |
| Players see missing-mod or version errors | Client and server releases differ | Confirm 3.1.0, Minecraft 1.7.10, and Forge 10.13.4.1614 on every installation. |
| Local players connect but remote players cannot | Firewall, router forwarding, changing local address, or carrier-grade NAT | Test each layer separately and verify that forwarding targets the current host address and configured server port. |
| Crashes begin after adding files | Unapproved mod, altered configuration, or a damaged world | Restore the last clean backup, review the server log, and reintroduce changes one at a time. |
| Expert mode feels inconsistent in an old world | Existing inventories and builds were created under Normal recipes | Restore the pre-change backup or use a fresh Expert world, then communicate the decision to players. |
The server log is the authoritative place to start when a mod or Java mismatch prevents launch. Capture the first error and the surrounding lines; the final “server stopped” message is often only a consequence. Keep a clean copy of the original generated folder so troubleshooting does not destroy the known-good baseline.
Performance and maintenance practices
Allocate memory without starving the host
The published requirement is at least 4 GB of RAM, with 4 GB recommended. Treat that as memory assigned to the server process, not permission to give every byte in the machine to Java. Leave enough RAM for the operating system, file cache, remote-management tools, and any other services. If the host begins swapping, players can experience pauses even when the Java heap appears large.
Control world growth
Exploration generates new chunks and increases both disk use and future loading work. Encourage players to travel together early, keep automated machines organized, and remove abandoned chunk-loading setups. Make scheduled backups and occasionally test restoring one to a separate directory; a backup that has never been restored is not a verified recovery plan.
Update deliberately
Infinity Evolved is a legacy 1.7.10 pack. Do not mix it with modern Minecraft versions, a modern Forge build, or another Infinity release. Before any change, record the current pack release, archive the world, and test the change on a copy. If a new release is not explicitly compatible with the existing world and clients, do not apply it to the live server.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting
| Consideration | Self-hosted server | Managed host |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Direct access to files, scripts, backups, and configuration. | Control depends on the host’s panel and policies. |
| Administration | You maintain Java 8, Forge files, firewall rules, networking, backups, and uptime. | The provider supplies a managed environment, while you still manage the pack, players, and world decisions. |
| Connectivity | Requires a reachable machine and correct router or firewall configuration. | Uses the provider’s network and panel; verify locations and support for this legacy pack. |
| Cost information | Uses your existing hardware and connection, with their electricity and maintenance costs. | Current prices, locations, modpack support, and affiliate terms vary and must be checked directly before purchase. |
The official FTB version page identifies BisectHosting as a hosting partner and links to hosted-server options: see the current FTB version page. Treat that mention as a starting point, not a guarantee of a particular plan, location, player count, or support policy. Ask the provider whether it offers the Infinity Evolved 1.7 release 3.1.0, Java 8 compatibility, file access, automated backups, and a way to change between Normal and Expert mode before committing.
Operational checklist
- Download the official Infinity Evolved 1.7 server installer and confirm release 3.1.0.
- Place it in a dedicated writable folder.
- Install and select Java 8; verify with
java -version. - Run the installer and allow it to generate the Forge server files.
- Read Mojang’s EULA and set
eula=trueonly if you agree. - Start the generated server script and wait for a ready console.
- Configure
server.properties, operator access, and the whitelist. - Back up the world and configuration before inviting players.
- Share the exact pack release, Minecraft version, Forge build, and connection address.
- Test local and remote connectivity before scheduling a group session.
- Back up again before changing to Expert mode; use a fresh world when practical.
- Keep logs, Java, Forge, and the pack release unchanged unless you have tested a full backup copy.
