Start with your tablet’s built-in Accessibility settings, then adjust Chrome separately for websites. These changes can make text, controls, long articles, and video easier to use without requiring an accessory. Menu names vary by device and market; if a path below does not match, search for the setting by name.
Make text and controls easier to see
Open Settings > Accessibility and try the display controls that suit you. Google notes that “Specific navigation and feature names may vary by market and device” in its Android Accessibility Help. If you cannot find a listed option, use Settings search.

- Font size changes text size; Display size can enlarge on-screen items such as icons and controls. Try these first and adjust them until the screen is comfortable to read and navigate.
- Magnification enlarges part of the screen when you need a closer look.
- Dark theme, contrast, and color options let you change how content appears. Which choices are available depends on the device.
- Extra dim reduces screen brightness beyond the usual brightness control on supported devices.
- Accessibility also includes speech tools and alternative controls; explore them if seeing or touching the screen is difficult.
Adjust Chrome zoom independently
System font and display size affect the tablet interface, while Chrome zoom changes the scale of web pages. In Chrome, open Menu > Settings > Accessibility and adjust Default zoom, using the preview to judge the result. You can also enable the zoom option in Chrome’s main menu and choose a different level for a particular site; Chrome saves that site’s zoom so other pages can remain at the default. If a page blocks zoom, try Force enable zoom in Chrome’s Accessibility settings. The controls are described in Chrome Help.

Reduce clutter on long web articles
On a supported page in Chrome, open the menu and tap Show Reading mode. Reading mode strips away much of the page’s surrounding layout and lets you choose a sans serif, serif, or mono font, change the font size, and select a light, sepia, or dark background. Reading mode is not offered on every page. If the menu item is missing or says the feature is unavailable, that page may not be supported. Do not confuse Chrome’s feature with Google’s separate Reading mode app: Google documents that app as available only on Android phones, not tablets. It requires Android 9 or later and does not support PDFs, email, chat messages, or social media feeds, according to Google Android Accessibility Help. For a tablet, use Chrome Reading mode where a page offers it.
Make video easier to follow
Look in Settings > Accessibility for caption preferences and Live Caption, if your tablet supports it. Captions and Live Caption availability can vary by device and content. For a particular video, also check the playback app’s own caption controls: a system preference cannot make every provider offer captions.

Audio description can help convey visual details in supported videos. Its availability depends on the video and provider, so check the video’s audio or accessibility options as well as the app’s help. Google’s Android Accessibility Help describes accessibility features and notes that availability can vary.

Consider an optional stand
An adjustable tablet stand can hold the screen in place for hands-free viewing or reading. It is optional, not a device requirement. Before choosing one, check that it fits your tablet’s dimensions and case, sits securely, and offers a viewing angle that works for your setup. Make browsing less fiddly
Use Chrome’s site-specific zoom for pages where text or controls need to be larger, leaving other sites at your usual zoom. For long articles, use Reading mode when Chrome offers it. These are separate adjustments: zoom scales the page, while Reading mode provides a simpler presentation with its own text and background controls.
If tapping remains awkward, Android supports external keyboards and mice over USB or Bluetooth. They are optional alternatives to touch controls, not necessary purchases. A keyboard may suit typing-heavy browsing; a mouse can provide pointer control. Check your tablet’s available ports and connection options before choosing a device.
