ATM8 is an ATMTeam modpack for Minecraft 1.19.2 with more than 350 mods, quests, and shader support. CurseForge lists 9.3 million total downloads and a last update of December 17, 2023. Its latest listed 1.19.2 Forge server archive is Server-Files-1.1.0.zip, alongside the 1.1.0 client release. ATM8 combines established mods with newer and lesser-known projects, with stability as a goal; despite its name, it does not literally include every available Minecraft mod.

What you need before installing ATM8
Run the server on a 64-bit Windows or Linux machine with sufficient free memory, storage, and a stable network connection. The official All The Guides documentation lists at least 6 GB of allocated RAM as the baseline for most All the Mods packs. That is a starting point, not a guaranteed player-count or performance promise; a heavily explored world, many loaded chunks, or several concurrent players can require additional CPU and memory headroom. No authoritative source gives one guaranteed maximum player count for ATM8, so size the machine for your actual group and view the first session as a capacity test.

Before installing, check the Java executable from the same account and environment that will run the server with java -version. The All The Mods documentation warns that a generic java command can select the wrong installation when several Java versions are present. Correcting the PATH or the script’s Java setting is safer than forcing the server to run with an untested version.

Choose a safe server location
On Windows, do not put the server inside OneDrive or another cloud-synchronized folder. The official guide warns that synchronization can remove or corrupt files while the server is running. A normal local path such as C:MinecraftATM8-Server is safer. On Linux, use a path owned by the account that runs the server, such as /home/<user>/atm8-server, and make sure that account has read and write access.
Use a folder dedicated to this instance rather than mixing ATM8 files with another pack. Keeping logs, backups, and the live world together under one clearly named directory makes later updates and restores less error-prone.

- Open the All the Mods 8 project page on CurseForge.
- Select the Minecraft 1.19.2 file and the client release you intend to use.
- Open Additional Files and download the server archive that matches that release. The latest listed 1.19.2 archive in the project information is
Server-Files-1.1.0.zip. - Create a new, empty server directory and extract the archive there. Do not run the server from inside the ZIP file.
Download the pack and server archive from the authorized project distribution. The AllTheMods README explains that authorized sources are used to preserve the integrity of game downloads and updates. Avoid repackaged archives from random file sites: even when they have a familiar filename, they may contain different mods, altered scripts, or incomplete files.
Write the exact ATM8 version in your setup notes. Everyone joining should install that same client version. Do not combine server files from one ATM8 release with a different client release, even if both are labeled for Minecraft 1.19.2; mod versions, Forge settings, scripts, and configuration files can change between pack releases.
Install and start the server scripts
The supplied scripts automate Forge installation and the initial Minecraft setup. The AllTheMods Server-Scripts documentation says the scripts fetch the appropriate Forge installer and install the required libraries. The first run can therefore take several minutes and may create many files. Leave the console open and let that process finish. Interrupting it can leave a partial library or configuration set that looks like a Java problem on the next launch.
Windows
- Open the extracted ATM8 server folder in File Explorer.
- Run
startserver.batby double-clicking it, or launch it from Command Prompt while the working directory is the server folder. - Wait while Forge and Minecraft libraries, configuration files, and the initial server files are generated. Do not close the window during this installation phase.
Linux
- Change to the extracted directory, for example
cd /home/<user>/atm8-server. - Ensure the script can execute:
chmod +x startserver.sh. - Start it with
./startserver.sh. If your archive uses the Server-Scripts naming convention, follow its documented Bash invocation forServerStart.sh. - Keep the process attached until the first installation completes, then stop it cleanly from the server console.
Do not edit ServerStart.bat or ServerStart.sh. The scripts are designed to manage Forge installation, Java checks, EULA state, and relaunch behavior. They can also apply crash-count and crash-timer rules so repeated failures do not create an endless restart loop. Put operator choices in settings.cfg instead.

Accept the Minecraft EULA
The first run normally creates eula.txt and then stops because the agreement has not been accepted. This is expected.
- Open
eula.txtin a text editor. - Change the line
eula=falsetoeula=true. - Save the file without changing its name or extension.
- Run the same Windows or Linux startup script again.
The server cannot complete a normal launch until eula=true is present. If the file keeps reverting or the script cannot read it, check that the directory is writable and that you edited the copy inside the active server folder.
Set memory and script options in settings.cfg
AllTheMods startup scripts read their operator settings from settings.cfg. Use one SETTING=VALUE entry per line, with no spaces around the equals sign. The README shows MAX_RAM=5G as a formatting example, while the official guide recommends at least 6 GB allocated for most ATM packs. Treat the guide’s 6 GB figure as the practical starting floor and choose a value that leaves the operating system and other services usable.

After changing settings.cfg, restart the server so the script passes the new values to Java. Never place spaces around the equals sign and do not modify the startup batch or shell file to change memory. Raising the limit cannot fix a missing mod, invalid configuration, wrong Java executable, or damaged download. Check the log first, then increase memory only when the workload and available hardware justify it.

Once the server starts, it creates server.properties, mod configuration files, and world data. Change only settings for a specific reason and keep a backup before making broad configuration edits. Configuration changes can affect whether clients with an otherwise matching pack can join.
Server address and port
Most users should leave server-ip blank and retain the port selected by the pack’s server properties. The official guide warns that entering an incorrect value for server-ip can prevent startup. If friends are connecting from outside your home network, allow the configured port through the host firewall and router, and give them the reachable address; do not change the bind address unless you know which local interface the server should use.

Import an existing world
- Stop the server and wait until the console confirms that saving is complete.
- Make a backup of the current server directory.
- Copy the existing world folder into the server directory.
- Rename that folder to
world, following the official guide’s import procedure. - Start the server and watch the console for world-loading errors before anyone joins.
The world should have been created with the same ATM8 release whenever possible. A world opened with a different mod set can lose blocks, entities, or data from mods that are absent or changed. If the imported folder has a different name, changing it to world is required for the documented procedure unless you deliberately set another level name in the server configuration.
Let friends join your ATM8 server
- Finish the server setup and wait until the console reports that the dedicated server has finished loading.
- Install the identical ATM8 client release on every player’s computer. The Minecraft version must be 1.19.2, and the Forge loader and configuration files must match the server.
- For players on the same local network, provide the server machine’s local address and configured port.
- For players on the internet, configure the router and firewall to allow the server’s port, then provide the public address and port. The server computer must remain powered on and connected while they play.
- Have each player connect from the modded ATM8 profile, not from an unmodded 1.19.2 profile.
If a player receives a missing-mod, mismatched-version, or registry error, stop troubleshooting the network first: compare the exact ATM8 release, Minecraft 1.19.2, Forge version, and server configuration on both sides. A client can reach the server successfully and still be rejected during the login handshake when these files differ.
Local hosting versus a managed host
Running the server at home gives you direct control over Java, Forge, scripts, configs, mods, storage, and backups. The trade-offs are the machine’s electricity and hardware cost, your responsibility for uptime, firewall and router configuration, and the need to keep the computer online whenever friends want to play. A managed host adds a recurring fee but can provide an always-on connection, a web panel, automated backups, and easier restore tools. The host’s CPU, RAM, storage, network limits, and modpack support become the constraints.

A hosted server is an alternative when you do not want to keep a home computer online or configure router access. Before paying, verify current ATM8 1.19.2 support, the required Forge startup method, enough RAM and CPU for your intended group, practical backup downloads, and the provider’s current pricing and affiliate terms. A panel that accepts only vanilla jars will not install ATM8 correctly without a custom-jar or ServerStarter-style workflow.
Use a hosted server instead of your own machine
The official guide describes two deployment methods:
- FTP or SFTP upload: extract the complete Server-Files archive locally, then upload the files and folders through the host’s file manager or FTP/SFTP account.
- Custom-jar or custom-startup method: when the control panel has no direct ATM8 or Forge template, select its custom-jar option or supply the startup command requested by the host, then point it at the uploaded files.
Upload the extracted directory rather than only a Forge JAR. The scripts, libraries, configs, and pack-specific files are part of the deployment. After uploading, use the host’s console to confirm the same first-run installation and EULA steps, then set memory through the panel or the uploaded settings.cfg, according to the host’s instructions.

Backups, updates, and safe maintenance
Make restorable backups
Stop the server before copying its world and configuration directories so files are not changing during the backup. Keep at least one copy outside the live server directory. Test that an archive can be extracted before trusting it as your only recovery copy. Back up before importing a world, changing mods, editing server configuration, or applying a pack update.
Update deliberately
Do not overwrite a working installation with an unrelated archive. Record the current ATM8 release, back up the world, download the matching newer client and server files, and review configuration changes before moving the world. Every player must update their client to the same release before reconnecting. Keep the previous server folder until the new installation has loaded the world successfully.
Read logs before adding RAM
Open the latest log and crash report first. A missing mod, wrong Java executable, invalid configuration, permission problem, or corrupted download can terminate the server regardless of memory. More RAM cannot repair those causes. The supplied scripts’ crash-count and crash-timer settings are useful safeguards, but repeated restarts should lead you to the first reported error rather than conceal it.
