Allocate at least 6GB of memory as a practical baseline, leave server-ip and server-port at their shipped defaults, and make sure every player uses the same pack release and Forge setup.

What you are installing
All the Mods 7 is a Forge-based modpack for Minecraft 1.18.2. CurseForge identifies ATM7-1.0.4.zip as the main 1.18.2 file released on March 21, 2024, and lists ATM7-1.0.4-server.zip as the corresponding 1.18 server pack. If you choose a different ATM7 release, download the server archive carrying that same release number. Never combine a client pack from one release with server files from another.
CurseForge listed approximately 3.0 million total project downloads when accessed on October 14, 2026. The project description says the pack began as a private pack for a few friends before being published for a wider audience. Those figures describe the project as a whole; they do not guarantee performance for your hardware or player group.

Release choice is the first compatibility decision
Write down the exact release before downloading anything. For the release documented here, that is ATM7-1.0.4 for Minecraft 1.18.2 and its matching ATM7-1.0.4-server.zip archive. Keep the client and server on that same release, Minecraft 1.18.2, the matching Forge loader, and matching configuration files.
Prerequisites and capacity planning
Install and verify Java 17
The ATM7 installation instructions use Java 17 as the version anchor and advise installing Java 17 from the project’s recommended links while removing other Java runtime or development-kit versions that could be selected accidentally. Whether you uninstall older versions or keep them for unrelated software, the important check is that the server script resolves to Java 17.
Open a terminal or Command Prompt and run:
java -versionThe result should identify Java 17. If it reports another major version, install Java 17, adjust your operating system’s PATH, or edit the startup script so its Java path points directly to the Java 17 executable. Check again before troubleshooting the modpack itself; a wrong Java binary can stop the installer before Forge is created.
Provide enough memory
The current All The Mods server guide lists a server with at least 6GB or more of allocated RAM as the requirement for most ATM packs. Treat that as a starting point, not a universal guarantee. World-generation load, automation, exploration, view distance, and the number of simultaneous players all affect memory and tick time.
- Reserve memory for the operating system and other services; do not give the Java process every gigabyte in the machine.
- Start with the allocation specified by the supplied script, confirm the server reaches a stable state, and increase or tune the heap only when logs and performance show a need.
- If the host has less available memory than the pack’s baseline, expect crashes, long garbage-collection pauses, or an inability to finish first startup rather than trying to compensate with network settings.
Use a clean, writable directory
Extract the server into an empty folder on a local disk. Avoid OneDrive and other synchronised directories: installers can be locked while files are being created, and partially synchronised archives can become corrupted. On Linux, choose a directory your account can read and write, and be prepared to make the shell script executable.

Download the matching server pack
- Open the All the Mods 7 project on CurseForge and select the exact Minecraft 1.18.2 release you intend to run.
- Download that release’s server pack. For ATM7-1.0.4, use
ATM7-1.0.4-server.zip, not a server archive from another ATM7 version. - Verify that the downloaded archive finished completely before extracting it. Keep a second copy of the untouched archive so you can rebuild a damaged installation.
- Extract the archive into the clean folder you prepared. Do not nest it several levels deep if your host or script expects the startup file at the top level.
Windows: install and start the server
- Move the extracted files outside OneDrive or another sync location, for example into a dedicated folder on a local drive.
- Open the folder and double-click
startserver.bat. The first run installs or prepares Forge libraries and other pack components. Let it finish; closing the window during this phase can leave an incomplete installation. - When the script creates
eula.txt, open it in a text editor and changeeula=falsetoeula=true. Save the file without adding formatting or a second extension. - Run
startserver.batagain. The first post-EULA launch can take several minutes while mods load and data is generated. If the initial console closes cleanly but you cannot type into it, close that console and start the script again. - Wait for the console message showing that the dedicated server has finished loading. Only then should you edit server properties, configuration files, or world settings.
Keep the Command Prompt window available while testing. Its log is the fastest way to identify a Java, missing-file, port, or mod-loading failure.

- Extract the same release-matched server archive into a writable directory, preferably under your home directory such as
/home/your-user/atm7. - From that directory, make the supplied script executable if necessary:
sudo chmod +x startserver.sh- Start the installer and server with:
./startserver.sh- After the script creates
eula.txt, edit it and seteula=true. - Run
./startserver.shagain and wait for the completed-server message before changing settings.
For a remote shell, use a terminal multiplexer so the process survives disconnects. If you are using a Server-Scripts repository script rather than the ATM7 script, its documented background pattern is:
nohup ./ServerStart.sh -a &>/dev/null &Use that command only when the named ServerStart.sh file is actually the script provided by your chosen setup; do not rename scripts or substitute it for startserver.sh without checking the archive.
Complete the first boot before customising
Run one clean startup with the supplied files and default settings. This lets the installer generate Forge libraries, configs, logs, and the initial world. Stop the server through its console command or the script’s normal close path rather than killing the process while files are being written.
Accepting the EULA
The server will not continue until eula.txt contains eula=true. This is a required acceptance of Minecraft’s EULA, not a modpack setting. If the file keeps reverting, check that the folder is writable and that a sync client or antivirus program is not restoring an older copy.

Leave network properties at their defaults
Open server.properties only after the first successful start. Leave server-ip blank unless you have a specific multi-interface or binding requirement. The All the Mods guidance warns that entering an address there is usually unnecessary and can prevent the server from starting. Leave server-port at the value shipped in the file unless your network design requires a different unused port.
Firewall rules, router forwarding, and the address you give friends are separate network tasks. Changing pack files or Forge arguments will not replace those network controls.
Let friends connect
Players on the same home network
For a LAN or home-server group, allow the Java server process through the operating system firewall on the server machine. Friends connect to the server computer’s local network address and the configured port. Keep server-ip blank; the server can listen on the available interfaces without that field being filled in.
Players connecting over the internet
Internet access normally requires an inbound firewall rule and router port forwarding to the server machine. The exact screens and terminology vary by router and operating system, so create the rule for the port shown in server.properties, point it at the server’s fixed local address, and share the reachable address with trusted players. If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary forwarding may not work; use a provider-supported public address or a private networking solution instead.

Match the client exactly
Every player must install Minecraft 1.18.2, the same ATM7 release, the same Forge loader, and the same mod and configuration set as the server. A client on a newer ATM7 build can fail during handshake even when both installations are labelled ATM7. When diagnosing a connection error, compare release numbers and the contents of the client and server pack before changing router settings.

Hosted installation
A hosted machine uses the same ATM7 server archive as a local machine. The provider’s panel changes how you install Forge, upload files, and start or stop the process; it does not create a different ATM7 server pack.
- In the host’s software selector, choose Forge for Minecraft 1.18.2. Some panels do not offer Forge 1.18.2 as one portable custom JAR, so follow the provider’s Forge installer or custom-loader workflow rather than inventing a JAR filename.
- If the provider supplies a modpack installer, select the exact ATM7 release. If it does not, upload the extracted server files with FTP, SFTP, or the host’s file manager.
- For the ATM7 1.18.2 procedure that uses a
setupdirectory, upload the contents ofsetupand excludemodpack-download.zipandinstaller.jar.logas instructed by the pack wiki. - Set the panel’s startup command or Forge profile according to its documentation, then start the server and watch the live log.
- When
eula.txtappears, seteula=truethrough the file manager or console, restart, and wait for the completed-server message.
Panel file managers sometimes hide generated libraries or arguments. If the host reports that it expects one JAR, use its Forge/custom-loader instructions and support channel; Forge 1.18.2 server packs rely on generated arguments and libraries rather than one universally portable JAR.
Performance checks after the server loads
Use logs before guessing
Watch the console and the server log during first world creation and while a player explores new terrain. Repeated Java heap errors indicate insufficient or badly configured memory. Long pauses during heavy generation may be workload-related rather than a networking problem. A server that loads successfully but becomes unresponsive as players spread out needs capacity tuning, fewer simultaneous generation tasks, or stronger hardware.

Change one variable at a time
- Confirm Java 17 first.
- Confirm that the heap allocation leaves room for the operating system.
- Test with the same player count and activity that caused the slowdown.
- Keep a copy of the working startup script before editing memory flags or Java paths.
Do not solve a failed startup by changing server-ip, deleting random mods, or mixing files from another release. Those changes can create a second problem while hiding the original one.
Backups, updates, and world imports
Back up before every update
Stop the server cleanly, copy the complete world directory, and preserve any configurations, scripts, or settings you intentionally changed. Store at least one backup outside the live server folder. A backup made while the server is writing region files may be incomplete, so do not copy a running world as your only backup.
Manual ATM7 updates
- Choose the target ATM7 release and download its matching server files.
- Stop the current server and make a verified backup of the world and customised configuration.
- Extract the new server pack into a separate empty directory first.
- Move the world and deliberately retained custom files into the new installation as directed by the current pack guide. Do not blindly overwrite every new pack-managed file with old files.
- Start the new server and inspect the log for missing mods, registry changes, or configuration errors before allowing players to join.
Never update by replacing only a few JARs from a different ATM7 build. Pack releases can change mods, configs, and generated libraries together.
Import a single-player world
- Stop the dedicated server.
- Rename or remove the existing server
worldfolder after making a backup. - Copy the single-player save into the server directory.
- Rename the copied save folder to exactly
world. - Start the server and check the console for conversion or missing-mod errors before connecting.
The single-player save must have been created with the same ATM7 release and mod set whenever possible. A world created with different mods can lose blocks, entities, or data during conversion.

The installer exits immediately or reports a Java error
- Run
java -versionand verify Java 17. - Inspect the startup script for a hard-coded Java path pointing to an older installation.
- Install Java 17 or remove conflicting JRE/JDK versions as recommended by the ATM7 instructions.
- Run the script from its server directory so relative paths resolve correctly.
Files are missing, locked, or corrupted
- Move the server out of OneDrive or another synchronised folder.
- Download the server archive again and compare its completed download size with the source listing if available.
- Check antivirus quarantine and restore only files you trust from the official pack archive.
- Extract into a new empty directory instead of repairing a partially generated installation.
The server will not start after editing properties
- Restore
server-ipto blank/default. - Confirm that the configured port is not already in use by another process.
- Undo the last change, start once, and then reapply settings individually.
The first post-EULA launch appears frozen
ATM7 can take several minutes to load after EULA acceptance, especially while Forge and mods initialise. Check whether the console is still producing log lines and allow the process to finish. If the first console closed cleanly but accepted no input, close it normally and run the startup script again.
Friends receive connection or mod-list errors
- Compare the exact ATM7 release number on every client and on the server.
- Confirm Minecraft 1.18.2 and the matching Forge loader.
- Compare mod and configuration files rather than relying on the pack name alone.
- Only after client parity is confirmed, check firewall rules, forwarding, the address, and the port.
A hosting panel cannot find the server JAR
Do not rename a generated Forge file to satisfy a generic JAR field. Select the panel’s Forge 1.18.2 option, use its custom-loader procedure, or ask support how to launch an argument-based Forge server. The 1.18.2 pack is not guaranteed to expose one standalone JAR suitable for every panel.
Local computer or hosted server?

Choose local hosting when you want maximum control and already have suitable hardware and a reliable connection. Choose a host when continuous availability and simpler external access matter more than operating-system control. In either case, use the identical release-matched ATM7 server files.
Final launch checklist
- One exact ATM7 1.18.2 release is written down.
- The server archive matches that release, such as ATM7-1.0.4-server.zip for ATM7-1.0.4.
- Java 17 is the version returned by
java -versionor explicitly selected by the startup script. - The files are in a clean, writable, non-synchronised directory.
- The first script run completed,
eula=truewas saved, and the script was run again. - The server reached its finished-loading message before configuration changes or player connections.
server-ipandserver-portremain at their defaults unless a documented network requirement says otherwise.- The machine or host has at least the pack guide’s 6GB baseline available to the server without starving the operating system.
- Firewall and router rules point to the correct machine and port when internet players are involved.
- Every client uses the same Minecraft version, Forge loader, ATM7 release, mods, and configs.
- A clean world backup exists before updates or imports.
Bottom line
ATM7 1.18.2 is dependable to host when you treat the release as a single package: matching server files, Java 17, enough memory, a clean first boot, and identical client installations. Install locally with the supplied batch or shell script, or upload those same files to a Forge 1.18.2 host. Keep the default network properties unless you have a specific binding requirement, and make backups before changing the pack or world.
