To loop uploaded videos as a live stream, an encoder or cloud streaming service must play the videos in sequence and send a continuous feed to YouTube Live. You can keep the videos organized in a YouTube playlist, but the streaming tool needs access to the video files or another supported source.
What you need to make a playlist loop live
YouTube’s encoder guide explains that “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The encoder or cloud service supplies the live video and audio; YouTube’s playlist feature organizes videos for on-demand viewing and is not documented in YouTube’s official encoder instructions as a direct Live input. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

- A YouTube channel eligible to live stream.
- An encoder or cloud service that can play the prerecorded videos in the sequence you want, including repeating them if needed.
- The original video files or another source your chosen tool supports. Do not assume every tool can import a YouTube playlist or access videos already uploaded to YouTube.
- A stable internet connection for a local encoder, or a cloud service that sends the stream on your behalf.
Check that your channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. As YouTube Help puts it: “To live stream, you need to have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and you need to verify your channel.” First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned broadcast. Check YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming for current eligibility details.
Set up the looping feed with an encoder
- Choose a playback tool. Select encoder software or hardware that can play your prerecorded sequence continuously. Confirm its current controls support repeating the playlist or sequence you need, and check whether it uses local files or supports another source. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams, but it does not establish Gyre’s current partner-program status or confirm every playlist-control detail.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Open Create → Go live, then use the Live Control Room’s Stream tab to create or choose the broadcast. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password; reset it if it is exposed.
- Configure output settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported. For RTMP/RTMPS, its guidance lists H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Choose resolution and bitrate appropriate to your connection, and consult YouTube’s current live encoder settings rather than relying on a copied preset.
- Test the sequence and signal. Use a test feed with motion and audio similar to the actual videos. Check that the sequence advances and repeats as intended, audio is present, and YouTube Live Control Room reports a healthy stream. If the tool offers a preview, verify it before going live.
- Start the encoder, preview, then go live. For a scheduled broadcast, connect and start the encoder so the preview appears in Live Control Room; click Go live when ready. YouTube recommends planning encoder setup at least two hours ahead and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before a scheduled start. These are YouTube’s operational recommendations, not guarantees of connection time.
- Monitor and end deliberately. Monitor audio, video and stream health while the loop runs. When finished, stop the broadcast deliberately in the encoder and Live Control Room as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise the same automatic archive behavior for longer streams. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
Choose between a local encoder and a cloud service
A local software or hardware encoder gives you control over playback but depends on the device, source files and internet connection staying available. A cloud service can keep sending the feed without a home computer running. Compare the options on the points that matter for your stream:

Troubleshoot common setup problems
- You can’t go live yet: verify the channel and check for live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the first time enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no signal: confirm the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key were copied into the correct fields. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- The video plays once but does not repeat: check the encoder or service’s current repeat or looping controls. The YouTube playlist itself is not a documented Live loop control.
- Video or audio is unstable: check encoder output against YouTube’s current settings, including constant bitrate, supported H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio and the recommended two-second keyframe interval. Lower resolution or bitrate if your upload connection cannot sustain the selected output.
- The scheduled stream is not ready: start the encoder early enough for its preview to appear in Live Control Room, then verify the feed before selecting Go live.
- The stream ends or its archive is missing: monitor the encoder and Live Control Room during the broadcast. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; do not assume a longer stream will be archived the same way.
Check rights before looping videos
Only stream videos you have the rights or permission to broadcast. Uploading a video to your channel or including it in a playlist does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast its music, footage or other protected material in a live stream. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-streaming rules before scheduling a continuous broadcast.
