For one bhajan recording, add it to an OBS Media Source and turn on Loop. For several recordings, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist (VLC must be installed). A sensible configuration to test for a mostly static devotional stream is 1920×1080 at 30 fps, H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and 10 Mbps video bitrate. That bitrate matches YouTube’s recommendation for H.264 at 1080p30; it is a starting point, not a guarantee your computer or upload connection can sustain a 24/7 broadcast.

Choose the right OBS source for your bhajan videos

One recording: Media Source

In OBS, add a Media Source to your scene, select the local video file, and enable Loop. OBS’s Loop option replays the file when playback finishes. The separate Restart playback when source becomes active option starts playback again when the source becomes visible; it does not make a completed video repeat by itself. OBS supports local video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. See OBS Media Sources.

Several recordings: VLC Video

If you want different bhajans to play in sequence, add a VLC Video source, select the files, and enable Loop Playlist. This option requires VLC to be installed. Choose this over separate Media Sources when the recordings should rotate as a playlist. OBS’s supported audio formats include MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. See OBS Media Sources.

Set up the scene and audio

  1. Create a scene: In OBS, add a scene for the broadcast, then add the Media Source or VLC Video source to it.
  2. Fit the video: Check the preview and make sure the artwork or video fills the canvas as intended. OBS scenes combine media and other sources into the final stream layout.
  3. Check the audio mix: Play the source and watch the OBS audio meters. Confirm the bhajan is audible in the stream mix and that desktop audio or another capture source is not adding an unintended duplicate. Audio routing depends on the target computer and devices, so verify it on your system.
  4. Check the loop: Let the recording reach its end before going public and confirm playback starts again cleanly. For a playlist, check the transition between files as well.

Choose resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate

For a stream built mostly around static devotional artwork, start by testing 1920×1080 at 30 fps if your computer and upload connection can sustain it. YouTube’s current live encoder guidance gives the following H.264 recommendations and minimums; use the row matching your chosen resolution and frame rate.

Output H.264 recommended video bitrate H.264 minimum video bitrate
720p30 6 Mbps 2 Mbps
720p60 8 Mbps 3 Mbps
1080p30 10 Mbps 5 Mbps
1080p60 17 Mbps 6 Mbps

These figures are YouTube’s recommended live ingestion values for H.264, not universal bitrate rules for every codec. YouTube’s 1080p30 recommendation for AV1 or H.265/HEVC is 10 Mbps with a 4 Mbps minimum. Check the platform’s current live encoder settings for the exact codec and mode you plan to use.

Why 30 fps is a reasonable starting point

For static artwork and slowly moving visuals, 30 fps is often a practical first setting to test. Moving to 60 fps increases the encoding workload and changes the bitrate recommendation; OBS advises testing system capacity, particularly at 60 fps. A 720p output can reduce the required upload bitrate compared with 1080p, while 1080p can preserve finer detail in text and artwork. Select the resolution based on the source material, connection headroom, and the machine doing the encoding—not on a promise that one setting fits every setup.

Output and encoder settings

  • Video codec: H.264 is used for the bitrate figures above. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1, subject to encoder support; do not apply H.264 bitrate values to those codecs.
  • Rate control: CBR.
  • Keyframe interval: 2 seconds. YouTube recommends a 2-second frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  • Audio: YouTube recommends AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz for stereo, and 128 kbps stereo audio bitrate.
  • Ingest protocol: Use RTMPS where available.
  • Resolution and frame rate: Set OBS output to the mode you intend to send, then select the matching YouTube bitrate guidance.

Find the available output and encoder controls in OBS under Settings → Output and Settings → Video; exact encoder choices depend on your OBS version and hardware. YouTube recommends matching bitrate to connection capacity and testing before a broadcast. Read its encoder settings guidance and OBS’s dropped frames and connection troubleshooting.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Confirm channel access: Open YouTube Live Control Room and check that livestreaming is available for your channel. This guide does not establish eligibility or account-specific requirements; follow the current notices shown by YouTube.
  2. Create or schedule a broadcast: In Live Control Room, choose the broadcast workflow and settings appropriate for your channel.
  3. Copy the stream key: Use the stream key shown by YouTube for the broadcast and enter it in OBS under Settings → Stream, using the YouTube service and server options presented by your OBS version. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or show it on screen.
  4. Start privately or run a test: Check the stream preview and YouTube’s health status before making the broadcast public. Confirm both picture and sound at the receiving end.
  5. Go live and monitor: Keep Live Control Room open to watch stream health and read any warnings while the broadcast is running.

Test before leaving a 24/7 stream running

A good-looking preview does not prove the full setup can stay connected continuously. Test with the same video, audio, resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings you plan to use. YouTube recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health during a broadcast; no particular computer or network can be assumed to sustain a given configuration without a test.

  • Confirm the file repeats, or that the playlist advances and loops as intended.
  • Listen for silence, clipping, sync problems, or doubled audio at YouTube’s end.
  • Check that the artwork and any text remain inside the frame at the chosen output resolution.
  • Watch YouTube Live Control Room for warnings or poor stream health.
  • Check OBS dropped-frame statistics. Dropped frames can point to network instability or a bitrate that exceeds available capacity.
  • Test what happens if the connection or YouTube ingest briefly drops. OBS has an automatic reconnect setting, but reconnect behavior does not guarantee uninterrupted service.

For a long-running broadcast, also verify YouTube’s current channel requirements, copyright rules, and Live Control Room notices for your own channel. This guide does not establish whether a particular channel is eligible, how long a broadcast may remain connected, or whether a full-day stream will be retained as a replay. Do not assume that streaming a recording makes it safe to use: use music and visuals you own or are authorized to broadcast, and review YouTube’s current policies in Live Control Room.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The bhajan plays once and stops Loop is off, or Restart playback when source becomes active was mistaken for looping. Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For multiple files, use VLC Video with Loop Playlist.
A playlist does not appear or play VLC may not be installed, or the wrong source type was added. Install VLC, then use the VLC Video source and select the playlist files.
Audio is missing or sounds doubled The source may not be reaching the stream mix, or desktop/capture audio may duplicate it. Check OBS meters and the audio sources in the scene; listen to the YouTube test stream and adjust routing on the target system.
YouTube reports poor health or frames drop Upload capacity may be unstable or insufficient for the selected bitrate. Check OBS dropped-frame statistics and YouTube health. Test a lower output mode or bitrate that fits the connection, then retest before going public.
Encoding struggles, especially at 60 fps The selected output may exceed the computer’s encoding capacity. Test system load; consider 30 fps or a lower resolution, then verify stream health and picture quality.
The stream disconnects A connection or ingest interruption may have occurred. Review OBS reconnect settings and YouTube’s status messages. Reconnection can help recover a connection but is not a promise of an uninterrupted broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want a home computer, OBS session, or internet connection to stay on, StreamNeo runs an uploaded video or playlist as a 24/7 YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera, and StreamNeo is for YouTube only.
