To change an existing YouTube live stream or archive, open YouTube Studio, go to Content → Live, open the stream’s details, choose Private or Unlisted under Visibility, then save. Choose Private for access limited to people you invite; choose Unlisted when anyone with the link may watch.
Private vs. unlisted: which should you choose?

Use Private when you need to limit viewing to a named invite list. Use Unlisted when link-based access is enough and you accept that the link can be passed on. Unlisted is not access control for named people.

Change the visibility of an existing stream or archive
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- In the left menu, select Content.
- Open the Live tab to find the live upload.
- Open the relevant video’s details or visibility control.
- Under Visibility, select Private or Unlisted.
- Select Save.

For an encoder or mobile stream, choose visibility in the stream’s details in Live Control Room before going live. Webcam setup has its own creation flow and privacy choice; the live-stream settings instructions for encoder and mobile streams do not describe the webcam workflow. If you need a stream to be private or unlisted from its start, set that before broadcasting rather than relying on an in-progress change.

What a 24/7 stream means for its replay
YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream that is less than 12 hours long; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume a continuous 24/7 broadcast will produce one complete replay. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup if you need an archive.
The official guidance does not clearly establish that every kind of stream can be switched between Private and Unlisted while actively live without interrupting the broadcast. For a new stream, choose visibility during setup; for an existing archive, use the documented Content/Live visibility controls.
