To show song requests on a 24/7 YouTube radio stream, put a queue overlay in the scene your encoder sends to YouTube—OBS can display one as a Browser Source. The overlay must receive live updates from the same player or request system that handles submissions; displaying a queue is not the same as connecting it to YouTube chat. Confirm that connection before choosing a tool, then test the whole path from request to on-screen update before broadcasting.
How the request queue gets onto the stream
The queue is a visual layer in your encoder, not a feature added to the YouTube video after it is live. A typical setup has three parts: a player or process that handles requests, a queue overlay that reads its current and upcoming tracks, and an encoder scene that displays the overlay alongside the radio video.

These parts must share data. A Browser Source can show a queue page, but it cannot make an unrelated request system feed that page. First decide where requests enter—YouTube chat, a separate submission page, or moderator entry—and verify that the exact player and overlay you plan to use support that path. The third-party examples cited below do not establish that their request workflows work with YouTube chat.

Choose and verify a queue overlay
Check the input and display
Before adding an overlay, confirm that it displays the queue used by your actual playback and request workflow. Decide whether viewers should see only the current track or also upcoming requests. Depending on the overlay, possible display controls include the number of queue items, cover art, progress, requester names, theme, width, scale, and opacity. These are examples of controls described by one third-party OBS overlay listing, not guaranteed features of every tool or proof of YouTube compatibility: OBS forum queue-overlay resource.

Check runtime and moderation needs
Ask whether the player, browser page, or another process must remain open for playback and queue processing. A dated community Nightbot dock listing says its AutoDJ page must remain open; that is a detail about that listing, not official Nightbot guidance or a general rule for request tools: OBS forum Nightbot music-player listing.
Also verify how requests are approved, skipped, removed, and moderated; whether duplicates are prevented; and whether moderators can manage the queue. Do not assume these controls exist just because a service provides an overlay. Add the queue to an OBS scene
- Set up the request and playback workflow. Choose how viewers submit tracks and who can approve or manage requests. Confirm that the player handles those submissions and that the overlay reads that player’s queue.
- Get the overlay’s Browser Source URL. Use the URL provided by the overlay service or your own queue page. Treat it as a display address, not proof that the page is connected to the request system.
- Add it in OBS. In the scene that will go live, use Sources → + → Browser, give the source a recognizable name, and enter the overlay URL. Set the source dimensions to suit the layout, then position and resize it over the video area. The overlay author or provider may specify suitable dimensions; there is no single size that fits every scene.
- Test queue changes. Add a test request using the same route viewers will use. Confirm that the request appears, that the list changes as tracks are added or removed, and that the current-track display updates when playback advances. Check text size, cropping, opacity, and placement at the resolution you intend to stream.
- Test the full production scene. Verify the audio source, overlay, privacy setting, request route, and moderation process together before relying on the stream. If a complete archive matters, record locally as well as streaming.
Connect OBS to YouTube and check the preview
- In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live and create or select the stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the stream, then enter them in the encoder’s streaming settings. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the current workflow: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Keep the stream key private: it grants access to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, reset or replace it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Start the encoder and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Check that both the queue and the intended audio are present before starting the public broadcast.
Plan around YouTube’s long-stream limits
Archives are not guaranteed for a 24/7 feed
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 stream should therefore not promise a complete YouTube replay. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive if you need a backup: YouTube encoder and archive guidance.
DVR rewind can be limited
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause and rewind live streams, but rewind is limited on very long streams and may be unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not rely on DVR as a way for viewers to recover an earlier request or track: Turn on DVR on live streams.

Get music rights before going live
You are responsible for having the rights needed to use music in a live stream. YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants: YouTube Livestream terms and conditions.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If a match remains, the live stream may be interrupted or terminated. Even if you have licensed the content, you may need the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist: Copyright issues with live streams. A request queue does not grant permission to broadcast the requested tracks.

Troubleshoot a queue that does not appear or update
