Yes, you can run a 24/7 Bollywood radio-style livestream on YouTube—but clear the music rights before you choose an encoder or schedule a broadcast. YouTube requires the person providing a livestream to have the necessary rights for worldwide use on Google services, including music rights. It scans live video for third-party content and can interrupt or end a stream. A licence by itself may not prevent that: the rights holder may also need to allowlist your channel for Content ID.
1. Clear the music rights before setting up the stream
Do not assume that owning a song, buying a download, subscribing to a music service, or having permission for a different use gives you the right to broadcast it around the world on YouTube. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for the necessary rights on the content provider. The terms refer to rights from artists, record labels, publishers—including public-performance rights—and other royalty participants. A Bollywood track can involve separate interests in the sound recording and the underlying musical and literary work.
Get written permission for the actual use
Before putting a track in your rotation, ask the relevant rights holders or their authorized representatives to confirm in writing that your planned use is covered. Spell out the exact recordings and compositions, worldwide YouTube livestreaming, the territories you intend to serve, any archive or replay, monetization plans, and whether the channel will be allowlisted in Content ID. A permission limited to one territory or medium should not be treated as worldwide permission for a YouTube livestream.
- Keep a track-by-track record of the recording and composition permissions and their terms.
- Ask whether the rights holder must add your channel to a Content ID allowlist, and get confirmation when that has been done.
- If a rights holder will not allowlist the channel, factor in the possibility that YouTube’s systems will interrupt the stream even if you have a licence.
- Keep permissions and allowlist confirmations accessible to whoever will operate the broadcast.
YouTube says livestreams are scanned for third-party matches. It can replace a stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the matched content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. This is a delivery risk as well as a legal one: a licence does not guarantee uninterrupted playback if the channel has not been allowlisted where required.

India-specific caution
India’s Copyright Rules, 2013 include a statutory licensing procedure for eligible broadcasting organizations, with notice and royalty provisions. That fact alone does not establish that the procedure automatically covers a particular YouTube internet livestream or removes the need to clear rights in recordings and compositions. If you are operating from India or targeting Indian listeners, get India-specific legal advice for the planned service and territories rather than assuming a broadcast provision applies.
2. Choose how to keep the broadcast running
You need a source of the programmed audio and visuals, an encoder that sends the stream to YouTube, and a reliable way to keep the source, encoder, network, and power available. For a radio-style channel with a mostly static visual, a capable software setup can be enough; professional-grade hardware encoders are an option for higher-production-value events, not a requirement for every music stream.

| Approach | When it can fit | Trade-offs to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | A small operation that can keep a computer, audio/video source, network connection, and encoder running and monitored. | Power, network, operating-system, or application problems can stop the broadcast. Plan for unattended operation, failure recovery, and session handoffs. |
| Hardware encoder | A production that benefits from dedicated encoding equipment or higher production value. | It is an additional equipment choice to configure and maintain. YouTube also documents software encoding, so hardware is not mandatory for a basic radio-style stream. |
Do not buy equipment before confirming the music rights and deciding how you will operate the channel. If you use a local encoder, test the whole chain—including the computer, audio playback, network, and any backup plan—before relying on it for a long unattended session.
3. Prepare the programme and visual loop
Build a rights-cleared rotation
Make the playlist from recordings that are covered by your permissions. Keep the rotation and track schedule consistent with the granted rights; do not treat a rights-cleared track as permission to add other recordings later. If the broadcast is intended to be continuous, decide how the playlist will restart and what the operator will do if playback or the encoder stops.

Use visuals you are allowed to broadcast
A station title, a simple visualizer, a now-playing display, or presenter segments can make a radio stream easier to follow. Clear rights for those elements too. Album covers, film clips, lyrics, promotional artwork, and other visual material may have rights separate from the music. Using a static image does not remove the need to clear it.
4. Verify and prepare the YouTube channel
- Verify the channel in advance. YouTube for Artists says a first-time live streamer should verify the account at least 24 hours before going live. Do this well before your planned launch.
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create or select a stream. Decide whether to schedule it so listeners can find it ahead of time; confirm the current controls and labels in Studio, as YouTube may update its interface.
- Choose a session plan. Decide whether the programme will use a single long session or planned shorter sessions. If you want a YouTube archive, see the 12-hour limit below before setting a schedule.
- Prepare the encoder connection. In Live Control Room, locate the stream URL and stream key for the selected stream. Enter those details in your encoder’s streaming or broadcast settings, choosing a YouTube-supported connection and codec from YouTube’s current guidance.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it casually. If it is exposed, reset or replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder before the next broadcast.
5. Set encoder quality and test the whole chain
Choose a resolution and frame rate that suit the visual programme and the available upload connection. For a mostly static radio visual, a lower setting may be adequate; test the real programme rather than selecting a higher resolution simply because it is available. YouTube’s published encoder recommendations include the following H.264 examples:

| Output example | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Stereo audio: YouTube’s guidance lists 128 Kbps.
- Upload headroom: YouTube recommends leaving room above the stream’s required upload bandwidth; its streaming tips recommend 20% headroom. Check that the connection can sustain the selected settings, not merely reach them in a brief speed test.
- Settings can change: These are platform recommendations, not guaranteed quality results. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings page before configuring a production stream.
Run a preflight using audio and movement similar to the actual broadcast. Check the encoder’s output, YouTube’s stream preview and health indicators, the listening experience on another device, and the stability of the network. YouTube also recommends testing a backup encoder for event continuity. If you intend to use one, test that it can take over before you need it.

A channel can be operated as a continuous radio service, but one uninterrupted YouTube session has an archive trade-off: YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If replayable VODs matter, plan bounded sessions below 12 hours, manage the handoff between sessions, and verify that each resulting archive appears in Studio. Do not assume that one session running for a full day will produce an archive.

Before launch, decide who watches stream health, who responds to a warning or dropout, and how the next session will start. Keep the playlist, rights records, schedule, and allowlist confirmations where the operations team can reach them. During operation, check YouTube Studio for stream-health and copyright notices; a stream that looks active in the encoder can still face a platform-side interruption.
7. Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube shows no incoming stream | The encoder is not connected, or the stream URL or key does not match the selected stream. | Confirm the selected stream in Live Control Room, recheck the URL and key in the encoder, and verify that the encoder is actually sending. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder. |
| Video or audio stutters | The upload connection may not sustain the configured bitrate, or the encoder or source may be unstable. | Check YouTube’s stream health and the encoder, test the real programme, and lower the output settings if the connection cannot sustain them. Preserve the recommended keyframe interval and leave upload headroom. |
| The stream is replaced, warned, interrupted, or terminated | YouTube may have detected third-party content, including music that is licensed but not allowlisted. | Check Studio notices, identify the matched material, and contact the relevant rights holder about the permission and any required Content ID allowlisting. Do not assume restarting the encoder resolves the underlying rights issue. |
| The stream ends after a computer, network, or application failure | A local part of the streaming chain stopped working. | Restore the failed source or connection, confirm the encoder can reach YouTube again, and verify the stream preview before resuming. Test backup-encoder and recovery steps before a scheduled long run. |
| No archive is available after a long broadcast | The session may have lasted 12 hours or more; YouTube’s automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours. | For future broadcasts where VODs matter, use planned sessions below 12 hours and check each archive in Studio after the session. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer and connection to be part of the broadcast chain, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos as a 24/7 stream. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; it streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. In India, UPI works as well as cards. Use only music and visuals you have rights to broadcast: a cloud encoder does not supply music rights or override YouTube’s copyright controls. To try it, [StreamNeo trial](https://app.streamneo.com/register).
