Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

If that still leaves your projected usage too high, reduce resolution or frame rate, stream to YouTube alone, and run a short test before the broadcast. The tradeoff is picture detail or motion smoothness; the exact data total depends on your phone, connection, and stream.
Which settings reduce data use most?
In Streamlabs Mobile, open the streaming or video settings and look for output resolution, frame rate, and maximum bitrate. Exact menu labels can vary by Android or iOS version and app release.

- Lower maximum bitrate in a small step. Bitrate is the amount of data transmitted per second. A lower setting reduces the encoded video payload rate, though image quality may suffer. Check the picture and YouTube stream health after each change.
- Lower resolution if you need more savings. For example, change 1080p to 720p, then review whether the added loss of detail is acceptable.
- Consider 30 fps instead of 60 fps. This can suit a mostly static talk or presentation. Fast-moving games, sports, or camera movement may look less smooth at a lower frame rate.
- Choose YouTube as the only destination. Streamlabs documents multistreaming as an Ultra feature. Sending to multiple destinations can increase outgoing traffic, but no exact multiplier is published.
- Check whether cellular is being used. If you use Wi-Fi alongside cellular or have Network Boost enabled, inspect your phone’s cellular-data settings. Streamlabs describes Network Boost as using multiple connections, such as Wi-Fi and cellular, for reliability—not as a data-saving setting.
YouTube’s encoder guidance gives useful H.264 reference points, but they are ingest recommendations rather than guaranteed presets for every phone. The figures below are YouTube’s published values on its encoder-settings page, checked October 3, 2026. “Minimum” is not the same as “recommended.”

| 720p30 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s H.264 ingest recommendations, not Streamlabs Mobile presets or assurances that a given bitrate will work well on a particular connection. Use a stable connection, test the selected quality, and monitor YouTube’s stream health. YouTube says it automatically detects encoder settings and transcodes a live stream into output formats for viewers on different devices and networks; that does not eliminate the data your phone sends to YouTube.

Estimate the data for a long broadcast
For a sustained video bitrate, approximate decimal gigabytes of video payload per hour as Mbps × 0.45. For example, 3 Mbps is about 1.35 GB per hour, before allowing for overhead or other traffic.
| Sustained video bitrate | Approximate payload per hour | Approximate payload for four hours |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Mbps | 0.45 GB | 1.8 GB |
| 3 Mbps | 1.35 GB | 5.4 GB |
| 5 Mbps | 2.25 GB | 9.0 GB |
| 8 Mbps | 3.6 GB | 14.4 GB |
These are calculations, not measured Streamlabs Mobile or carrier totals. They use decimal GB (1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes) and estimate encoded video payload from bitrate and duration. Actual phone or carrier usage can differ because of audio, transport overhead, bitrate variation, reconnects, and other app traffic. Leave headroom rather than planning to use the full allowance shown by the calculation.

Test your settings before going live
- Set the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate you intend to use in Streamlabs Mobile.
- Make a short test with movement and audio similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and video motion and monitoring stream health; Streamlabs also advises rehearsing and checking the camera, microphone, and equipment.
- Check the stream’s image quality and YouTube stream health. If the picture breaks up or the stream is unstable, raise bitrate or lower the quality target until the connection can handle it reliably.
- Record the phone’s cellular-data counter immediately before and after the test. The difference gives you a device- and setup-specific observation, not a universal usage rate.
- For a long cellular broadcast, use the observed rate to estimate the full duration and compare it with your plan’s remaining data. Repeat the test if the scene, network, or settings change substantially.
Troubleshoot high usage or a poor-looking stream
- The projected usage is still too high: Reduce bitrate first, then lower resolution or frame rate if needed. Also make sure you are not sending to additional destinations.
- The stream looks blocky after lowering bitrate: Restore some bitrate or reduce resolution so the encoder has a less demanding image target. A bitrate far below YouTube’s published minimum for the chosen format may give poor results.
- Motion looks choppy: If the content has fast movement, try retaining 60 fps and lowering resolution instead of dropping to 30 fps. The better compromise depends on what viewers need to see.
- YouTube reports stream-health problems: Test the connection and settings before the public broadcast, then adjust quality to what the connection can sustain. A higher resolution or bitrate is not useful if the connection cannot deliver it reliably.
- Your cellular counter rises unexpectedly: Check which connection the phone is using, whether Network Boost is active, whether another destination is enabled, and whether other apps are using cellular data. Network Boost is described as a reliability feature, not a way to cut usage.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your real goal is to keep a pre-recorded YouTube broadcast running for a long time, rather than stream live camera video from your phone, StreamNeo is a different option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
