To loop one worship video in OBS, add it to your scene as a Media Source, choose the local file, and turn on Loop in the source properties. For a rotating set of clips, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to YouTube Live, test the full playback and audio path, and confirm you have permission to stream the music and visuals.
Choose the right OBS source
| Need | OBS source | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat one video file | Media Source | Enable Loop to replay the file when it ends. Loop is off by default. |
| Play several clips in sequence | VLC Video | Add files to its playlist and use Loop Playlist, which defaults to on. VLC must be installed; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. |
OBS documents both source types and their playback behavior in its Media Sources guide.
Loop one worship video with Media Source
- Prepare the video file on the computer running OBS, then open the scene where it should appear.
- In Sources, select +, choose Media Source, and create a new source or select an existing one.
- In the source properties, select the local video file and enable Loop.
- Decide whether to leave Restart playback when source becomes active enabled. It is on by default: when the source becomes visible again, playback restarts. Turn it off if you want playback to continue from its current position when returning to the scene.
- Confirm the source is visible and not covered by another source. Position and resize it in the preview to fit the scene.
- Start playback and watch through the end-to-beginning transition. Check that the video repeats as intended and that its audio is appropriate for the service.
Loop and Restart playback when source becomes active do different jobs: one repeats a finished file; the other controls what happens when the source enters an active, visible scene. The exact labels can vary with software versions.
Loop a playlist of clips with VLC Video
- Install VLC on the streaming computer. Match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
- In the OBS scene, add a VLC Video source from Sources.
- Add the worship clips to the source playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled if the sequence should repeat. OBS documents it as on by default.
- Check the source’s visibility behavior. VLC Video is documented to stop when it is not visible and restart when it becomes visible, so changing scenes can affect playback.
- Preview the entire sequence, including the transition from the last clip back to the first, and check audio levels and any gaps.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live and test before the service
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and configure the stream. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current workflow and connect OBS using the YouTube encoder option.
- Use the stream key provided for the stream. Treat it as private: YouTube describes it as the key that lets an encoder send a feed to the stream. Do not show or share it publicly.
- Set OBS output according to the resolution, frame rate, encoder, and upload capacity you can sustain. For H.264, YouTube’s current settings page recommends 5 Mbps at 1080p30 and 6 Mbps at 1080p60; it lists minimums of 4 Mbps and 6 Mbps respectively. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection can hold steady.
- For RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings, YouTube recommends CBR and a 2-second keyframe frequency, and says not to exceed 4 seconds. See YouTube’s encoder settings for guidance beyond those examples.
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test before the actual broadcast. YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream; verify the video loop, its audio, and the complete path into Live Control Room.
- During the service, monitor OBS and YouTube Live Control Room for playback, audio, connection, and stream-health problems. YouTube’s streaming tips explain its testing and monitoring guidance.
Choose settings based on the actual output and available upload bandwidth, and leave capacity for a stable connection. The 1080p figures above are examples of YouTube recommendations, not mandatory settings for every worship stream.

Check music and video rights before streaming
Being able to play a video in OBS does not give you permission to broadcast it. Check rights for the song, recording, and visual content, as well as the territory and the way you plan to use them.
CCLI’s cited licensing information is US-facing and should not be treated as a rule for churches elsewhere. It distinguishes qualifying songs performed live during online worship from certain authorized master recordings and multitracks covered by Streaming Plus. CCLI says video content included in a stream usually requires permission from the copyright owner; it identifies SongSelect Lyric Videos as a stated exception for Streaming Plus license holders during a live stream. This is not blanket clearance for arbitrary visuals, commercial music videos, or every recording. Check the church’s actual agreement and current terms in CCLI’s US Streaming License information and its US license summary. CCLI also notes that license holders remain responsible for their uploads and may still encounter platform enforcement.

Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
- The video stops at the end: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a multi-clip source, check Loop Playlist.
- The video restarts when you return to its scene: Media Source’s Restart playback when source becomes active is enabled. Disable it if you want playback to continue rather than restart when the source becomes visible.
- A playlist source is unavailable: Confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- The source is added but not visible: Check that it is enabled in the scene and not obscured by another visible source, then position or resize it in the preview.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Recheck the encoder connection and the correct private stream key in Live Control Room. Consult YouTube’s current encoder setup steps.
- Playback or stream health is unstable: Test the full stream path, check the available upload capacity, and select settings your connection can sustain. Watch both OBS and Live Control Room rather than assuming a recommended bitrate guarantees stability.
- Audio is missing, too loud, or out of sync: Check the source and scene audio in OBS, then repeat the test with the same audio and motion planned for the broadcast. Confirm the result in YouTube’s preview before going live.
