To play Minecraft survival VODs in a chosen order on YouTube Live, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source: add the files to its playlist in sequence, leave Shuffle Playlist off, and turn Loop Playlist on. OBS sends the playback to YouTube as an encoder stream; the playlist itself runs on your computer.
What you need before setting up the playlist
- Video files: Gather the Minecraft recordings you want to play and confirm you have the rights or permission to rebroadcast them. A VOD being yours or publicly viewable does not, by itself, establish permission for a new broadcast.
- OBS Studio and VLC: OBS requires VLC to be installed for its VLC Video source to appear. Match 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS where applicable. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- YouTube Live access: YouTube says account verification and account standing requirements apply, and first-time live streaming activation can take up to 24 hours. Check current eligibility in YouTube’s encoder setup instructions before planning a broadcast.
Build an ordered, repeating playlist in OBS
- Open OBS Studio and create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- In the Sources box, select + and add VLC Video. If that option is missing, install VLC and restart OBS.
- Open the source properties and add the local Minecraft VOD files in the order you want them to play. Arrange the playlist from first video to last.
- Make sure Shuffle Playlist is disabled. Enable Loop Playlist so the source starts again from the beginning when it reaches the end of the list. OBS documents shuffle off and looping on as defaults, but verify both settings in your source rather than relying on defaults. The OBS guide explains these controls.
- Check the OBS preview, video framing, and audio routing. Play through a file transition, then check that the final item returns to the first. These checks help catch missing files, gaps, unexpected ordering, or silent audio before going live.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live, then select an existing stream or create one in the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s stream settings into OBS’s streaming settings. YouTube explains that the key allows YouTube to accept the encoder feed and identifies where it should go; treat it like a password and do not share it. See Manage live stream settings and YouTube encoder setup.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Confirm the stream’s title, description, visibility, and other settings, then start the public broadcast from the control room as appropriate.
- Monitor the opening minutes and confirm that both video and game audio are reaching YouTube. Keep OBS and the computer running for as long as you want the local playlist to play.
YouTube accepts feeds from software encoders as well as hardware encoders, so this workflow does not inherently require a dedicated hardware encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its cited encoder guidance does not make the same promise for longer broadcasts. If you plan to exceed 12 hours, consult current YouTube guidance rather than assuming an archive will be available.

Keep the Minecraft broadcast within YouTube’s rules
Only stream recordings you are entitled to rebroadcast, including any music, voice chat, server content, or other material captured in the VOD. A looping playlist does not change the underlying rights or YouTube’s policies. Review YouTube’s current copyright and live-stream rules, and check the stream’s privacy and metadata before going public. Permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions: do not assume that permission to rebroadcast guarantees a channel or stream will qualify for monetization.
