To loop prerecorded real estate videos on YouTube Live from a Linux VPS, run FFmpeg on the server with the media files available locally, read them at real-time speed with -re, and use -stream_loop -1 for indefinite looping. Send the feed to the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. The command below is a starting point, not a tested, universal recipe: check your files and YouTube’s current encoder guidance before going live.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- A Linux VPS with FFmpeg installed, enough disk space for the files, and a stable outbound connection.
- Real estate videos and any included music, narration, graphics, or photographs that you have the right to stream.
- The ingest URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. Treat the key like a password: keep it out of public repositories, shell history, and logs.
There is no single VPS size supported for every playlist. The workload depends on whether FFmpeg copies or re-encodes the video, the media’s resolution and frame rate, playlist size, and network conditions. Measure the actual workload and review the host’s transfer and uptime terms before choosing a plan.

Prepare a compatible video loop
Start with one file
A single file is the simplest case. Place it on the VPS, then use this pattern, replacing the input filename and credentials with your own:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4

"$YOUTUBE_URL/$STREAM_KEY"FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as looping the input indefinitely and -re as reading at the input’s native frame rate (equivalent to -readrate 1). Check behavior against the version installed on your VPS. The example re-encodes video with H.264 and audio with AAC; it does not guarantee that every input or output setting is suitable. Confirm the source codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio layout, and container against YouTube’s current encoder guidance and your actual files.

Build a playlist carefully
For a playlist, use a playlist or concat workflow only after checking that the media streams are compatible. A loop option does not validate files, create transitions, or guarantee seamless playback between arbitrary property videos. Test the sequence from beginning to end, including the transition from its last item back to its first, before relying on it for a continuous broadcast.
Copy streams or re-encode?
Re-encoding gives you control over output settings but uses VPS CPU. Stream copy can reduce encoding work, but only works when the source streams are compatible with the chosen output and YouTube ingest. Decide based on the files you actually have, then validate the feed in Live Control Room; do not assume either approach fits every playlist.

Create the YouTube stream and start the feed
- Create or schedule the event: In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule a broadcast. Follow Studio’s current prompts.
- Configure FFmpeg: Copy the stream URL and key from Live Control Room into your encoder configuration. Protect them as credentials rather than placing them in a public script or repository.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview: Check the picture, audio, orientation, and transitions in Live Control Room. For a scheduled broadcast, use Studio’s flow to click Go live when the preview is ready.
- Supervise the process: Run FFmpeg under an appropriate process supervisor, such as systemd, and monitor the process, disk space, outbound network, and YouTube ingest status. A supervisor and monitoring can help you detect failures; they do not guarantee uptime or automatic recovery.
Choose a broadcast lifecycle that fits the channel
Scheduled events
A scheduled broadcast creates an identifiable event and follows a Studio lifecycle that includes a Go live step. YouTube’s API distinguishes the broadcast—the viewer-facing event or video—from the stream that carries the audio-video feed. Its documentation describes scheduled or recurring events that reuse a stream, as well as a case where a continuous broadcast remains active while another broadcast is temporarily started on the same stream. API-based event management requires development and authorization work.
Continuous feed and archives
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume an indefinite broadcast will produce one complete archive: plan broadcast boundaries and archive handling deliberately if you need recordings of the full playlist or separate events.

RTMP or HLS
For a basic encoder workflow, use the URL and key provided in Live Control Room. YouTube also documents HLS ingestion for selected workflows. Its HLS guidance notes higher latency than RTMP because video is sent in segments and specifies segment, playlist, and HTTPS requirements. HLS is not the default recommendation for a straightforward VPS file loop.

Before streaming, clear the rights for every video, music track, voiceover, graphic, and photograph, and keep a record of permissions. Permission to use a work does not, on its own, make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies distinguish original, authentic content from repetitive or mass-produced material, and describe reused content as material republished without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. A real estate playlist should provide a genuine viewer benefit rather than simply repeat footage to attract views. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate assessments.

Troubleshoot common failures
- No preview in Live Control Room: Confirm that FFmpeg is running and that the URL and key match the current stream in Studio. Check FFmpeg’s output and the VPS outbound connection.
- Video or audio is rejected or plays incorrectly: Inspect the input’s codecs, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, audio layout, and container, then compare them with YouTube’s current encoder guidance. Test re-encoding if stream copy is incompatible.
- Playlist stops or has broken transitions: Check each file and the playlist/concat workflow for compatible streams and durations. Test the complete sequence, including its loop boundary.
- FFmpeg exits or the feed drops: Check process-supervisor status, disk space, network connectivity, and ingest status. Configure monitoring and a restart policy appropriate to your setup; neither prevents every failure.
- Broadcast is live but not archived as expected: Check the event duration and archive plan. YouTube’s stated automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours, not to an indefinitely long broadcast as one guaranteed complete archive.
