Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo repeat a guided breathing video on YouTube Live, loop the video in an encoder such as OBS Studio—not in YouTube’s regular video player. In OBS, add the recording as a Media Source, select the file, and enable Loop. That makes OBS restart the file when it ends, but does not guarantee a frame-perfect join or uninterrupted playback for every viewer. Inspect the video’s ending and beginning, test the broadcast, and monitor stream health.
What “without a gap” means
There are several different things a creator might mean by a gapless loop:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Source loop: OBS restarts the file after playback completes. Its Media Source Loop property handles this.
- Smooth join: the last and first video frames and audio samples meet without an obvious cut. The Loop setting cannot fix an awkward edit in the file.
- Continuous live feed: the encoder keeps sending the stream to YouTube. Network interruptions, encoding problems, and delivery buffering can still interrupt playback.
- Uninterrupted playback for every viewer: an individual viewer’s network, buffering, latency, or DVR position can affect what they see.
OBS documents that Loop restarts a file after playback completes; it does not promise a frame-perfect transition. YouTube likewise does not guarantee that every viewer will receive a continuous, pause-free experience.
Loop the video in OBS Studio
1. Prepare and check the recording
Use a media file supported by the OBS Media Source on your installed version. OBS lists video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, along with common audio formats. Before streaming, watch and listen to the end-to-start transition. For a guided breathing video, check that a spoken instruction, breath count, musical phrase, or visual pulse does not abruptly cut or imply a jarring change in rhythm at the join. This is a production-quality check, not medical guidance.

2. Add a looping Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene that will be sent to YouTube Live.
- In the Sources box, click + and choose Media Source. Create a new source, name it if useful, and confirm.
- In the Media Source properties, select the local video file.
- Enable Loop, then confirm. OBS describes this property as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed.
- Make sure the source is visible and active in the scene that will go live. Check that the video and its audio appear in the OBS preview and audio mixer.
Keep the scene and source active while streaming. If you switch to a scene that hides or replaces the video, the audience will no longer see that source.
3. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key provided for the stream.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter or connect the stream details as the interface offers. If entering them manually, use the URL and key from YouTube.
- Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send an encoder feed to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Start the stream from OBS and confirm that YouTube receives it in the Live Control Room preview before making it public.
A channel may need to be verified and must have no live-stream restriction in the prior 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the time you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder-stream setup guidance and live stream settings.

Choose stream settings and test before going public
OBS’s Loop option controls file playback; it does not set the outgoing stream’s resolution, bitrate, or connection quality. Choose encoder settings that suit the content and your available upload capacity. YouTube’s current guidance covers supported encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions in its live encoder settings guide. Use RTMPS for encrypted ingestion where supported, as YouTube recommends.
- Test with the same video, audio, scene, and stream settings you intend to use live.
- Check both the OBS preview and YouTube’s preview, and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators.
- Leave upload headroom. YouTube recommends about 20% upload bandwidth beyond the stream bitrate; this is headroom guidance, not a guarantee against drops.
- Prefer a reliable network connection. Ethernet may help if Wi-Fi is unstable and your computer and router support a wired connection, but it is optional and cannot prevent every interruption.
For setup and network guidance, see YouTube’s streaming tips and YouTube live streaming tips.

Decide whether to allow DVR
YouTube DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream from their paused position. In a guided breathing session, that means someone who pauses may later hear or see a cue that is no longer aligned with the live moment. Review the DVR option in the stream’s settings and choose based on the experience you want: disabling DVR removes live rewind for viewers. A recording may still become available after the stream. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Plan for long streams and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a recording matters, make a local recording as well and verify that it is being saved. Splitting a longer broadcast into separate sessions may interrupt the public live stream; it is not a way to guarantee both an uninterrupted broadcast and an archive. See YouTube’s live archive guidance.

Troubleshoot common loop problems
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The video plays once and stops | Loop is off, or the outgoing scene is using a different source. | Open the Media Source properties, enable Loop, and confirm that the looping source is visible in the scene being streamed. |
| The loop repeats, but the join is noticeable | The recording’s ending and beginning do not connect smoothly, or the audio/video transition is abrupt. | Inspect and edit the file’s endpoints, then preview the join again. The Loop control restarts playback but does not smooth the media itself. |
| YouTube does not show the OBS feed | The stream may not be enabled for the channel, or the stream URL/key may be wrong or outdated. | Confirm live-stream eligibility and activation in YouTube Studio. Copy the current URL and key into OBS and check the Live Control Room preview. |
| The feed drops or YouTube reports poor stream health | Upload capacity, network stability, or encoder settings may be insufficient. | Check OBS and YouTube stream health, use settings that match available upload capacity, and leave the recommended upload headroom. Try a reliable wired connection if Wi-Fi is unstable. |
| A viewer is behind the current breathing cue | The viewer paused or rewound using DVR. | Decide whether live rewind is appropriate for the session and adjust the DVR setting if needed. |
| No archive appears after a long broadcast | The stream exceeded YouTube’s stated 12-hour archive threshold. | Do not rely on YouTube to capture streams longer than 12 hours; keep a local recording if an archive is important. |
