What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Add the clip to an OBS Media Source and turn on Loop. That makes OBS replay the file when playback completes, but it does not guarantee a frame-perfect transition or prevent every black frame. Test the exact file and scene before using them live.
Set up a single video to loop
- In OBS, select the scene where the video should appear. In the Sources panel, click + and choose Media Source.
- Create a new source or select an existing one. In its properties, choose the local video file.
- Enable Loop. OBS defines this setting as replaying the file after playback completes; it controls repetition, not whether the handoff between the last and first frames is seamless. OBS Media Sources documentation
- Keep Restart playback when source becomes active enabled if you want the clip to start over when the source becomes active. Turn it off if you want playback to continue from its previous position after it has been hidden. This is a separate behavior from looping.
- Use Close file when inactive only if you accept that OBS may take a short time to display the source again after unloading it.
- Click OK, fit or crop the source as needed, and preview it through a complete playback and loop. Check the actual transition before going live.
Check the loop point before blaming OBS
A black frame at the transition can come from the media itself or from how the source behaves in the scene; the Loop checkbox alone does not establish the cause. Scrub or play the clip around its end and beginning in a media player, and inspect the encoded final and first pictures for a black or dark frame. Then preview the same point in OBS.

Change one relevant setting at a time and repeat the preview. OBS documents separate controls for looping, restarting when active, hardware decoding, showing nothing at the end, and closing the file when inactive. Hardware decoding is available only when the GPU has an appropriate decoder for the file type; that option is not a compatibility or performance guarantee for every 4K 60fps file.
Use a playlist instead of one file
For multiple videos, add a VLC Video source and configure its playlist, then enable Loop Playlist. OBS documents playlist looping as enabled by default. This source appears only when VLC is installed; if OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC. OBS Media Sources documentation

Why a black frame or failed restart can persist
- The preview stays black: A black preview does not by itself show that Loop is misconfigured. A forum thread about a Media Source not showing includes mixed reports: changing the active-source restart setting helped some users but not others. In one reported case the file also appeared black in VLC, which points beyond OBS for that particular case, not as a general diagnosis. OBS forum discussion
- A last-frame flash appears: An issue report describes a last-frame flash before playback on OBS 25.0.8. It concerns that version and setup; it does not establish a current general bug or universal fix. OBS issue report
- Hiding and immediately showing the source does not restart it: An OBS issue opened in 2024 reports this behavior when a source is hidden and quickly shown at the end of playback. A maintainer explained that visibility changes are processed on the graphics thread, so a very fast hide/show may not register as a distinct transition. Do not rely on an immediate hide/show at the end as a guaranteed restart method. OBS issue report
- The source does not restart when active: First check whether Restart playback when source becomes active matches the intended workflow. Community reports vary by setup, so this setting is not a universal black-frame fix. OBS forum discussion
