Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYou may not need to convert your 4K 60fps video at all. If OBS can play the file correctly, use it as a looping Media Source; for a playlist, use VLC Video. Avoiding an unnecessary re-encode preserves the source file without adding another generation of encoding loss. But no setup can promise that the video remains wholly lossless through YouTube: YouTube transcodes live streams for delivery to viewers.
Do you need to convert a 4K 60fps video before looping it?
Usually, no. OBS documents support for MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM video sources. If your file loads and plays in OBS at its intended resolution and frame rate, keep it as the source rather than converting it just to make it loop.

A filename extension alone does not guarantee compatibility: the codecs and profiles inside a file, as well as the computer and software environment, affect whether it decodes correctly. Test the actual file in OBS before planning a long broadcast. If OBS cannot play it reliably, conversion may be useful for compatibility, but the best target settings depend on details such as codec, bit depth, HDR or color format, and audio. Those details are not specified here, so there is no universal conversion command or guaranteed lossless conversion to recommend.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Keep the original, convert a copy only if necessary, preserve 4K resolution and 60 fps where possible, and inspect the converted result before using it for a long stream. Avoiding conversion can prevent an unnecessary re-encode, but it cannot prevent YouTube’s live-stream processing from changing the delivered video.

Loop one video or a playlist in OBS
Loop a single file with Media Source
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene.
- Select the local video file and enable Loop.
- Play it in the preview and confirm that it starts, displays correctly and restarts at the end.
Loop several clips with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and add the clips to its playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist, then check that the clips play in the intended order and that the playlist repeats.
Set OBS for a 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream
Match the OBS canvas and output to the video’s intended 4K frame size and 60 fps. Check both settings so OBS does not accidentally downscale the image or change the frame rate. YouTube’s live encoder guidance supports up to 60 fps and recommends testing before going live.
Choose the ingest codec and bitrate
YouTube’s published 2160p60 bitrate guidance, accessed in 2026, varies by codec:

Create the YouTube broadcast and test it
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s stream settings. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish or share it.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm picture, audio and stream health before starting the public broadcast.
- Test with representative movement and audio, not only a static frame. Watch stream health during the broadcast and verify that upload capacity remains sufficient for the chosen bitrate.
If the channel has never streamed before, YouTube says first-time live streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours. Allow for that when scheduling your first test.
What “without quality loss” can—and cannot—mean
Keeping the original file as the OBS source avoids one potential quality loss: an unnecessary conversion and re-encode before streaming. YouTube’s upload-encoding guidance says uploaded content should use the same frame rate in which it was recorded, but that is upload guidance, not a promise about live-stream quality.

For live delivery, YouTube automatically transcodes streams into formats for viewers on different devices and network conditions. As a result, “no quality loss” can describe avoiding an extra conversion before OBS, but it cannot honestly guarantee an unchanged, lossless result from the source file through YouTube to every viewer.

Troubleshoot common problems
- OBS will not open the file: The extension may be supported while the file’s particular codec or profile is not decodable in your setup. Test another file or convert a copy to a compatible format; preserve the original and check the result before broadcasting.
- The video looks softer or smaller than expected: Confirm that the OBS canvas and output are set to the intended 4K frame size and that scaling has not reduced it.
- Motion looks uneven: Check that the output is set to 60 fps and compare it with the source. YouTube recommends testing before going live.
- The stream reports poor health or drops: Check whether sustained upload capacity can support the chosen bitrate. Review the encoder settings against YouTube’s codec-specific bitrate guidance and monitor stream health.
- The video stops at the end: For one file, confirm Loop is enabled on the Media Source. For multiple clips, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist; VLC must be installed.
- No preview appears for a first-time stream: If live streaming has not previously been enabled on the channel, activation may take up to 24 hours. Leave time for that before the planned broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps a pre-recorded video or playlist live, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera.
