How to Log In to a TP-Link Extender and Change Its Settings

Connect to your TP-Link extender and open its local settings page at tplinkrepeater.net. Learn how to sign in, change the admin or Wi-Fi password, and troubleshoot access.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To open a TP-Link extender’s settings, connect your phone or computer to the extender, then enter https://tplinkrepeater.net in a browser. You do not need an internet connection to reach the extender’s local management page. Once signed in, you can change its administrator password or wireless settings; the exact menu labels depend on the model, firmware, and operating mode.

Connect to the extender and open its management page

  1. Power on the extender and let it finish starting. Connect your phone or computer to the extender’s Wi-Fi. For a first connection, use the network name and password printed on the extender’s label. If the extender has an Ethernet port, you can instead connect a computer to it with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Open a browser and enter https://tplinkrepeater.net in the address bar. TP-Link recommends Firefox, Chrome, or Edge. Make sure you enter the address in the browser’s address bar, not a search box. See TP-Link’s extender login instructions.
  3. If the address does not open, try the correct alternative for the extender’s state. For a unit still at factory defaults, try http://192.168.0.254/. If it has already joined your router, find the address assigned to it in the router’s connected-client list and enter that IP address instead.

If the browser displays a privacy warning at the extender’s local page, TP-Link says it can be caused by the extender’s self-signed certificate. Select Advanced and proceed only when you are connecting to your extender’s local interface. This instruction does not apply to certificate warnings on unrelated websites.

Sign in or create the administrator password

On first access, many extenders prompt you to create and confirm an administrator password. If the interface has already been set up, enter the password previously chosen for local management. Some older models use admin as both username and password, but that is not a universal login. If the extender is bound to a TP-Link ID, its interface may allow you to sign in with the account credentials. TP-Link describes these variations in its login guide.

Change the extender’s administrator password

The administrator password protects access to settings; it is separate from the Wi-Fi password used to connect devices. On many current extenders, look under Settings > System Tools > Admin Account. On the RE315, the manual lists Settings > System Tools > Change Login Password; enter the current password, enter the new password twice, then select Save. Labels and paths vary across models and firmware. TP-Link’s admin password guide and the RE315 user guide show these examples.

Change the Wi-Fi name, password, or security settings

Open the extender’s wireless settings, not its administrator-account page. In Range Extender mode, TP-Link’s instructions use Extended Network settings. In Access Point mode, the relevant page is Wireless Settings. Available options can differ, so use the page that matches the extender’s current operating mode and consult TP-Link’s wireless settings instructions.

Some mesh configurations inherit wireless settings from the host router or limit which SSID options can be changed independently. For model-specific instructions, select the exact model and hardware version on TP-Link support and check its manual.

If the login page will not load or you cannot sign in

  • Confirm the connection: your phone or computer must be connected to the extender, even though internet access is not required. If the extender uses the same Wi-Fi name as the router, TP-Link suggests temporarily switching off the main router to make sure the client connects to the extender.
  • Use the right address: 192.168.0.254 is an alternative for a factory-default extender. For one already configured and connected to a router, use its current address from the router’s client list.
  • Try Ethernet if available: a wired connection to the extender can help with configuration, but is optional if Wi-Fi access works. The extender must have an Ethernet port.
  • Recover a forgotten password carefully: TP-Link says recovery through a TP-Link ID may be available for some devices. Otherwise, a factory reset may be necessary to regain access, and it erases the extender’s configuration. Check the instructions for your exact model before resetting.

Interface differences are normal: model, hardware version, firmware, and operating mode can all affect the available menus and settings. TP-Link’s setup guidance was updated August 13, 2026, its login guide August 3, 2026, and its administrator-password guide September 10, 2026; consult the current page and manual for your specific unit.
