To teach yoga live on YouTube, first confirm your channel can stream, then choose a phone, webcam, or encoder setup that shows your full practice area and captures your cues clearly. Test the actual camera view, movement, audio, and upload connection before class; use music only when you have the rights to stream it. Check that your YouTube channel is eligible

Mobile streaming has additional requirements: YouTube Help lists at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a supported device. YouTube describes webcam streaming as a quick computer-and-webcam workflow and encoder streaming as a way to use external audio/video gear or manage a more advanced production. Frame the mat and make cues easy to hear
Camera position and orientation
Place the camera on a stable surface or tripod where it will not be knocked over. Frame yourself with enough room for the poses you plan to teach, including standing, seated, and floor work. Do a full run-through: a view that looks adequate while you are still may crop your hands, feet, or mat once you move.
Horizontal video can be easier to compose around a wide mat and full-body demonstrations. YouTube says vertical live streams can be discoverable in the Shorts feed, but the vertical live experience has a different feature set from horizontal streams. Vertical can work if you remain comfortably in frame. Try the intended orientation on a phone and confirm current features in YouTube Studio.

Audio
Speak at the volume and distance you expect to use during class, then listen to a test recording or preview. If the built-in microphone does not capture instructions clearly, try an external microphone, such as a USB microphone or wireless lavalier, and test it while moving. YouTube’s encoder guidance covers connecting a microphone or headset; no particular model is required.
Set a sustainable stream quality and test the connection
Check upload speed, not just download speed: upload capacity limits the data your stream can send. YouTube recommends about 20% headroom beyond the combined stream bitrate. For H.264, its current encoder settings table recommends 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps or 3 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are recommendations, not guarantees that a particular connection will sustain a setting. If the stream stutters, lower the resolution or bitrate and test again.

- Choose the setup and settings. Select the resolution, frame rate, and bitrate your connection can sustain; avoid choosing a higher setting just because the camera supports it.
- Rehearse under class conditions. Test the same camera position, lighting, movement, and speaking volume you intend to use. Check every pose that could take you to the edge of the frame.
- Preview the stream. For an encoder setup, check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room and confirm both picture and audio. Watch for clipped movement, echo, background noise, or audio that drops when you turn away.
- Monitor stream health. Once live, keep an eye on the stream-health indicators and have a way to communicate with participants if the connection fails.
YouTube’s encoder advice suggests setting up at least two hours ahead and starting an encoder at least 15 minutes before the event. The amount of lead time you need depends on how complex your setup is; leave enough time to fix problems before students arrive.
Protect music rights, privacy, and participation
You are responsible for having the rights needed to use your live content on Google services, including applicable music rights. A personal subscription to a music service does not by itself establish that you can use its tracks in a public livestream. Use music cleared for the intended use, or teach without music. YouTube’s terms set out the rights requirement.
