To connect Castr to Facebook Live with a custom RTMP destination, copy Facebook Live Producer’s Server URL and Stream Key, enter them in Castr’s Facebook Live destination using Setup with Server/Key, start the stream from Castr, then click Go Live in Facebook Live Producer. The Facebook URL and key are destination credentials; they are not the separate RTMP ingest URL and key an encoder uses to send video into Castr.
Before you start: distinguish the two RTMP connections
This setup links Castr to Facebook Live. Facebook’s Server URL and Stream Key tell Castr where to send the finished stream. If you use an encoder as a source for Castr, that encoder instead needs Castr’s own source-ingest URL and key from Castr’s Stream Source Setup panel. Using Facebook’s credentials in the encoder’s Castr source settings will not connect the source correctly. See Castr’s guide to finding stream key, RTMP and SRT details.

Connect Facebook Live to Castr with Server/Key
- Open a Castr livestream. Sign in to Castr and open an existing livestream project or create one. Castr’s livestream setup guide describes the current project and destination flow. Available destination counts depend on your Castr subscription.
- Add Facebook Live as a destination. In the stream dashboard, choose Add destination (or the corresponding platform-add control), select Facebook Live, and choose Setup with Server/Key. This is the manual custom-RTMP route, rather than Castr’s separate Facebook account-linking flow.
- Get Facebook’s destination credentials. Open Facebook Live Producer, select Use Stream Key, and copy the Server URL and Stream Key shown in the Live Stream Setup panel. Facebook may offer a persistent stream key for reuse. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to the destination.
- Enter the values in Castr. Paste Facebook’s Server URL into Castr’s Streaming Server field and Facebook’s Stream Key into Streaming Key. Add the stream title and description and select or configure the stream source, then save or add the destination. Castr documents this field mapping in its Server and Key setup instructions.
- Start the stream from Castr. Start sending video from your chosen source through Castr. This makes the incoming stream available to Facebook, but does not finish the Facebook broadcast.
- Go live in Facebook Live Producer. Return to Producer and click Go Live manually after Castr starts. Castr specifically notes that this manual step is required for the Server/Key route in its Facebook Live connection guide.
- Verify the destination. Confirm that Producer shows the broadcast as live and that the intended Facebook Page or profile is selected before sharing it with viewers.
Facebook’s interface labels and placement can change; look for the stream-key setup and live controls in the current Live Stream Producer screen if they differ from the labels above.

Server/Key or Facebook account linking?
| Route | What you do | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Server/Key (custom RTMP) | Copy Facebook’s Server URL and Stream Key from Producer and enter them as Castr’s Streaming Server and Streaming Key. | Start the stream from Castr, then click Go Live in Facebook Producer manually. |
| Facebook API/account linking | Use Continue with Facebook in Castr and follow the account-selection flow. | This is a separate connection method; supported destinations and plan eligibility can depend on Castr’s current offering. |
Castr’s earlier documentation describes API linking as a way to select supported Facebook destinations, while its current livestream guide says destination count depends on subscription plan. Castr’s June 2024 article said Facebook API integration was available on Multistream Plus and above and that Pages required a paid Castr plan. Those are dated plan statements, not a guarantee of current eligibility; check the plan details and destination options in your Castr account before relying on them. See Castr’s Facebook API integration article.

Troubleshooting the connection
No video reaches Castr
- Check whether your encoder is sending to Castr’s source-ingest URL and key, not Facebook’s destination URL and key.
- In Castr, retrieve source credentials from Stream Source Setup. The encoder-to-Castr connection and Castr-to-Facebook destination are separate links.
Castr is sending, but Facebook is not live
- For Server/Key setup, return to Facebook Live Producer and click Go Live after Castr starts. Castr does not complete that manual Producer action for you.
- Confirm you are viewing the intended Facebook destination and that the stream preview is receiving video before going live.
Facebook destination does not connect
- Check that Facebook’s Server URL is in Castr’s Streaming Server field and the Facebook Stream Key is in Streaming Key.
- Copy the credentials again from the correct Facebook Live Producer session if the values may have been truncated, mistyped or replaced.
- If using a persistent key, check that the persistent-key option is enabled in Producer and that you pasted that key rather than a different session’s key.
An encoder asks for Castr ingest username and password
Castr’s July 2, 2026 source-credential guide says username and password are not required for that encoder-to-Castr ingest workflow; leave those fields empty. This advice concerns Castr source ingest, not Facebook destination credentials.
The destination or API option is unavailable
Check Castr’s current plan and the destination controls in your account. Destination limits and API eligibility can vary by subscription, and Castr’s specific Facebook API plan language cited above dates to June 2024.
