To live stream on your website, send video from an encoder to a streaming service, then embed that service’s player on your page. The service handles receiving and delivering the live feed; your website displays it. For a quick start, embed a public YouTube stream. For a more controlled playback experience, use a managed live-hosting service such as Cloudflare Stream or an event-oriented service such as Vimeo.
Choose how your website will show the stream
There are three practical approaches. Choose based on how much control you need over playback and event features, and how much streaming infrastructure you want to manage.

A regular website host is not, by itself, a streaming backend. An encoder’s raw RTMP feed needs a service that can receive and distribute it; it cannot simply be pasted into an ordinary webpage as a playable stream.
Set up a YouTube live stream and embed it
Prepare and test the broadcast
Use a streaming application such as OBS to assemble the broadcast. OBS can use a webcam, capture card, screen, window, or other scene source, and capture microphone audio. A webcam and a separate microphone are optional: you can stream other sources instead. OBS recommends configuring output and testing before your first real stream.

- In OBS, add the source or sources you want viewers to see and hear, then configure the output for your streaming destination.
- Connect OBS to YouTube using the stream details and key provided by YouTube. Keep the stream key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your live input.
- Run a short test before the event. Check that video and audio are present and that the stream appears as expected.
Copy YouTube’s embed code to your page
- Open the YouTube video or playlist you want to show.
- Select Share, then Embed, and copy the HTML code.
- In your website editor, add an HTML or embed block where the player should appear, then paste the code. The exact block name depends on your site builder.
- Save or publish the page and test it in a separate browser or on another device.
YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode uses the youtube-nocookie.com embed host. This affects personalization, but it is not a promise that all cookies are removed or that the embed meets every privacy law. If your website or app is child-directed, YouTube says you must self-designate it using its tools even when using privacy-enhanced mode.
Use managed live hosting for an embedded player
With managed hosting, the website still displays a player, but the hosting service receives and distributes the live feed. Cloudflare Stream documents a workflow in which you create a live input, send video to it over RTMPS or SRT, and play the resulting stream through its web player or an HLS- or DASH-capable player.

- Create a live input in Cloudflare Stream and obtain its stream key.
- Configure your broadcasting software to contribute to that input using RTMPS or SRT, as supported by your setup.
- Use the dashboard-generated iframe to place the player on your webpage, or choose a player that supports HLS or DASH.
- Protect the stream key, then test the live feed and embedded player from a viewer’s browser.
Vimeo documents a separate live-event embed workflow with viewer engagement tools. Its support article limits that option to Advanced or Premium, or Enterprise with the Events feature added; check the current plan details before relying on those features.
Check the player on the actual page
Before sharing the page, test it as a viewer rather than relying only on the encoder’s preview.

- Open the published page in a separate browser or on another device.
- Confirm that the stream starts and that the audio is audible.
- Check that the player fits the page on the screen sizes your visitors use.
- Check what visitors see before the stream starts and after it ends.
- Confirm that the video’s privacy and embedding settings allow playback on your site.
Understand latency and platform limits
For a standard YouTube player embed, you do not need to configure YouTube’s HLS contribution protocol. If you specifically choose HLS ingestion, YouTube says it has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments rather than as one continuous stream. YouTube’s HLS setup specifies TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. These are requirements for that contribution method, not for embedding a YouTube player.
Public-platform embeds also inherit the platform’s rules. In particular, YouTube says age-restricted videos cannot be watched on most third-party sites. Managed hosting gives you a different ingest and playback workflow, but service plans and usage limits vary; check the provider’s current terms.
