Choosing a reaction that fits
Pick the reaction that conveys what you mean in context: a thumbs-up can acknowledge a message, a heart can express affection or appreciation, laughter can mark something funny, and a question mark can signal confusion or a request for clarification. These are practical interpretations, not a ranking or etiquette rule from Apple.

These steps describe the Messages interface in Apple’s current iPhone user guide; labels and screens may change with iOS updates. Apple’s instructions do not establish how Tapbacks behave for every message type or recipient platform, so do not assume every recipient will see them in the same way. For Apple’s broader instructions on reacting to messages, see Send and reply to messages on iPhone.
