You can connect Claude on Android to supported cloud services, such as Gmail or Google Drive, and manage the access those connections receive. That is different from giving Claude general control over every app installed on your phone: Anthropic’s documentation describes connectors and camera or microphone features, not broad Android app automation.
What “using Android apps” means with Claude
Claude for Android is Anthropic’s mobile app. Its documented ways to work with other services are remote connectors: integrations that let Claude access data or tools exposed by a connected cloud service. They do not establish that Claude can open and control arbitrary apps installed on your phone.

Anthropic lists services including Google Drive, Gmail, Asana, and Notion in its connector directory. Separately, Claude may request Android camera or microphone permission for features such as camera capture and voice input. Those phone permissions do not authorize access to a cloud account.

Connect Gmail, Google Drive, or another supported service
Anthropic’s help guidance says remote web connectors work with Claude Mobile on Android for paid Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. Plan terms and feature availability can change, so check Claude’s current connector settings. This eligibility applies to mobile remote web connectors; it does not mean a paid plan is required for every use of Claude on Android.

- Install the official app. Find “Claude by Anthropic” on Google Play, using Anthropic’s official getting-started guidance or its Play Store listing.
- Open Claude’s connector settings. Find the available remote web connectors in Claude’s settings; labels and availability may change.
- Select the service and authenticate. Sign in to the external service and review the access it requests before approving. The connector can only work within the permissions and capabilities made available to it.
- Use the relevant tools for your task. In Search and tools, enable only the connector tools you need. Review any approval request, especially when it would change or send data.
Anthropic’s connector guide explains the supported connection model. A connector may offer actions as well as reading, depending on the service and permissions you grant.
Use a custom connector on Android
A custom remote MCP connector can expose tools, prompts, or resources to Claude. Set it up through claude.ai first; once configured there, it can be used on mobile if available. Anthropic states: “Users can use tools, prompts, and resources from remote servers that they’ve already added via claude.ai. Users cannot add new servers directly from Claude Mobile.” See Building Custom Connectors via Remote MCP Servers for details.

Custom connectors deserve extra scrutiny because their access and behavior depend on the server. Anthropic warns that custom MCP servers are not verified by it, may change behavior, and can expose Claude to malicious instructions. Its Help Center advises: “Only add and authenticate custom connectors from trusted organizations, listed directly on their websites.” Read Getting Started with Custom Connectors Using Remote MCP before connecting one.
Limit or remove Claude’s access
Before connecting
- Choose a service and connector you trust, and inspect the permissions shown during sign-in.
- Prefer read-only capabilities when they are sufficient. Do not enable write-capable tools unless the task calls for them.
- In Search and tools, turn off unrelated connector tools and pay attention to requests for approval before an action.
Disconnect a cloud connector
Remove access at both relevant layers when you want a connection fully revoked: disconnect the connector in Claude’s settings, and revoke Claude’s authorization in the connected service’s own security or account settings. The connector’s permissions govern cloud-service access; changing phone permissions will not revoke them.

Manage camera or microphone access
To stop Claude from using camera or microphone features, open Android’s app permission controls for Claude and adjust the relevant permission. Anthropic’s documentation does not establish one settings path that applies to every Android version, so use the permission controls on your device rather than relying on a fixed menu sequence. Its voice-mode guidance discusses microphone access; the Android widget guidance notes camera and voice permissions for relevant features. The widget is documented for Android 8.0 Oreo and above.
