On supported AirPods, connect them to your iPhone or iPad, then go to Settings > [your AirPods’ name] > Battery and turn off Optimized Battery Charging. AirPods Pro 3 have an additional control, Optimized Charge Limit, plus a one-time “Charge to Full Now” option.
Which setting should you change?
Apple documents two related controls, but they do not apply to all the same models. Apple’s AirPods charging guide describes them as follows:

Use the control that appears for your model. Optimized Charge Limit is an AirPods Pro 3 feature, not a setting available on every AirPods model.
Turn off Optimized Battery Charging
For supported AirPods Pro and AirPods 3 or later, follow these steps while wearing the AirPods and connected to your iPhone or iPad:

- Open Settings.
- Tap your AirPods’ name near the top of the screen.
- Tap Battery.
- Turn off Optimized Battery Charging.
Apple says this feature is on by default when AirPods are set up or after an update to iOS or iPadOS 15 or later. Menu availability and wording can depend on the AirPods model and software.
Get a full charge on AirPods Pro 3
AirPods Pro 3 add Optimized Charge Limit. While wearing the AirPods and connected to an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap the AirPods’ name, then Battery. From there, you can turn off Optimized Charge Limit. Apple says it can also be disabled just for a day.

For a one-time full charge, Apple’s guide documents the action label “Charge to Full Now.” Open the case with the AirPods inside while their battery status is displayed, then select that option if it appears.
Why AirPods may not charge fully right away
Charging optimization is intended to reduce battery wear by limiting the time the AirPods spend fully charged. Optimized Battery Charging learns your routine and may wait to finish charging until shortly before expected use; AirPods Pro 3’s Optimized Charge Limit adapts the charging limit to support battery lifespan over time.

Turning off optimization allows full charging; it is not a promise that every charging session will display exactly 100% at a particular time. Apple’s guidance does not quantify a battery-life benefit or guarantee a specific result for every case, accessory, or battery condition.
