On a Killing Floor 2 PC server, authenticate in the console with adminlogin <password>, then run admin Kick <player ID or name> to remove someone from the current match or admin KickBan <player ID or name> to remove and ban them. A player ID is the safer target when a display name contains spaces, symbols or looks like another player’s name.
These commands are entered from the game client. Tripwire’s September 2020 server update said that manual kick and ban commands remained available in-game even while several WebAdmin controls were disabled. WebAdmin behavior can depend on the server build, so treat that announcement as historical guidance and verify the controls on your own installation.

What you need before using an admin command
You need to be connected to the Killing Floor 2 server and know its administrator password. The password is configured by the server owner or host; it is not your Steam password. If you operate a rented or self-hosted server, look for the server’s administrator-password setting. Some hosting documentation names this setting AdminPassword, but the exact configuration screen or file differs by provider.

The procedure below concerns the PC game client and the command syntax documented for Killing Floor 2. Console access, permissions and configuration can vary by server build. If you are only a normal player, the commands will not work: the server must recognize your account as an administrator after authentication.
- Be connected to the correct server session.
- Have the current administrator password.
- Know the target player’s display name or, preferably, the player ID shown by the server’s kick list.
- Use the in-game console, normally opened with the tilde (
~) key on a PC keyboard.
Kick versus kick-ban
Both commands remove a player from the active game, but they express different moderation decisions. Use a kick when the immediate disruption must stop and you do not yet need to prevent a return. Use a kick-ban when the player should be removed and blocked from rejoining under the ban rules enforced by that server.

The command reference and a separate general admin-command reference both use the kick and kickban forms. The examples below retain the documented capitalization so they can be copied exactly.
Step-by-step: kick a player from the current match
- Open the console. While connected on PC, press the tilde key (
~). Keyboard layouts can place this key differently; use the key that opens your game’s console. - Authenticate. Enter
adminlogin <password>, replacing<password>with the server administrator password, then submit the command. The command reference definesadminlogin passwordas logging in as an administrator. - Choose the target. Obtain the player ID from the server’s kick-list display when possible. An ID avoids ambiguity when names contain spaces, unusual symbols or text that resembles another player’s name. A display name is also an accepted target.
- Run the kick. Enter
admin Kick <player ID or name>, replacing the bracketed example with the actual ID or name. - Confirm the result. The player should be removed from the active session. If the person returns later, that is consistent with a kick being a session removal rather than a documented ban.
Example with a player ID
If the kick list presents an ID such as 1234, enter admin Kick 1234. Use the ID exactly as displayed; do not add quotation marks unless your server build specifically requires them.

Example with a display name
For a simple name, enter the name after the command, such as admin Kick PlayerName. Name parsing can be less reliable when a name includes spaces, punctuation or look-alike characters. Because the documentation explicitly accepts IDs, selecting the ID is the safer practical method in those cases. The references do not promise special quoting or escaping behavior for every unusual name.
Step-by-step: kick and ban a player
- Open the console with the tilde key while connected to the server.
- Log in as administrator with
adminlogin <password>. Authentication is required before the kick-ban command. - Identify the player by ID from the kick list whenever possible. This reduces the chance of acting on the wrong person when names are similar.
- Apply the kick-ban with
admin KickBan <player ID or name>. - Record the action in your moderation notes, including the player identifier, time, reason and any server rule involved. The command itself does not provide a documented universal duration or unban workflow.
admin KickBan is not merely a stronger kick: the reference describes it as banning a user from the game as well as removing that user. Do not describe the ban as automatically permanent or automatically temporary unless your particular server build documents that behavior.
How to select the right player target
Prefer the player ID
The Killing Floor 2 command reference explicitly supports a player ID shown by the kick list. IDs are useful when two players have similar names, when a name contains spaces or symbols, or when a name is difficult to type accurately. Check the displayed ID immediately before executing the command because players can leave and new players can join during a busy session.

A name can be convenient for a short, distinctive display name. Type it as it appears in the server interface and verify the resulting removal. The available references do not define a guaranteed quoting rule for names with every possible character, so an ID remains the more defensible choice for edge cases.

Avoid acting on assumptions
Do not infer identity from a voice, chat message or partial name alone. Match the name or ID to the player shown in the server list, and document why the action was taken. This is especially important on public servers where several users can have similar display text.
What happens after each command
After admin Kick
The targeted user is removed from the current game session. The command reference defines the immediate removal but does not establish a lasting restriction. If the same behavior continues after the player rejoins, a server administrator can evaluate a kick-ban under the server’s published rules.
After admin KickBan
The user is removed and a ban is applied. The supplied command references do not specify a ban duration, storage mechanism, expiration policy or guaranteed unban command. Those details can depend on the server version and its administration setup. Keep a record of the action and consult the documentation for that exact build before promising a player that a ban will expire or can be reversed in a particular way.
WebAdmin: why the controls may not be available
Tripwire’s official Steam announcement for a September 2020 update stated: “Manual kick and ban commands can still be conducted within the game client.” The same announcement said that WebAdmin’s Players, Session Bans, Banned IDs, IP Masks and Management Console kick/ban functions had been disabled at that time.

That statement is tied to the update described in the announcement, not a guarantee about every later server build. If your WebAdmin panel does not show a kick or ban button, use the authenticated in-game console procedure instead. If a newer build exposes those controls again, follow the labels and permissions shown by that build, but do not assume that an older WebAdmin guide still matches it.
Why in-game commands are the dependable fallback
The client-side commands are directly documented as available even when the cited WebAdmin functions were disabled. They also make the authentication step explicit: log in with adminlogin, then run the action against a name or ID. This avoids relying on a panel whose feature set may have changed between updates.
Joining a full server as a spectator
Tripwire’s September 2020 announcement included a method for an administrator who needs to enter a full server without taking a regular player slot: Open <IP of the Server>?SpectatorOnly=1. Replace the bracketed text with the server IP. This is a historically documented instruction from that update, so test it against the current server build before relying on it during an incident. It does not replace administrator authentication; once connected, you still need to use adminlogin <password> before issuing kick or kick-ban commands.

The console does not open
Check that you are using the PC client and the key assigned to the console on your keyboard layout. The tilde key is the usual default, but keyboard layouts and custom bindings can differ. If the key produces no console, verify the game’s input settings and test while connected to the intended server.
adminlogin is rejected
- Confirm that you connected to the server whose password you were given.
- Re-enter the password exactly, including capitalization and punctuation.
- Make sure you used the syntax
adminlogin <password>rather than placing the password after a different command. - Ask the server owner to confirm that your account is allowed to administer the server and that the configured password has not changed.
Do not keep guessing a password in public chat or share it with players. Treat it as a server credential and transmit it through the owner’s normal private channel.
The target cannot be found
Refresh your view of the active players and use the current ID from the kick list. A player may have left between identification and execution, or a new player may have taken a similar name. If you used a name containing spaces or symbols, retry with the documented player ID instead of experimenting with unverified quoting syntax.
The wrong person is at risk
Stop and re-check the ID or exact display name before issuing another command. Do not rely on a partial name. If the server’s list is changing rapidly, ask another administrator to verify the target and record the decision before applying a ban.
The player is removed but returns
That outcome is compatible with a normal kick, which is documented as removing the user from the current session. If the conduct warrants a ban, use admin KickBan after confirming the player identity and the applicable server rule. If a kick-ban does not behave as expected, check the server build’s ban handling rather than assuming a universal duration or unban command.
WebAdmin has no moderation buttons
The missing controls may reflect the restrictions described in Tripwire’s 2020 announcement. Connect through the game client, authenticate and use the manual command path. Then check documentation specific to your installed server version for any later WebAdmin changes.
Admin workflow for fair, recoverable moderation
- Observe the incident. Identify the behavior and the server rule it may violate before acting.
- Warn when appropriate. A brief warning can resolve accidental conduct without removing a player. Skip a warning when there is an immediate threat to the match or other players.
- Verify identity. Match the player’s current ID or unambiguous name to the incident.
- Choose the least disruptive effective action. Use a kick for a session-only removal; use a kick-ban when preventing a return is justified.
- Authenticate privately. Enter the administrator password in the console, not in public chat.
- Execute and verify. Run the command, confirm that the intended player left, and watch for a mistaken target.
- Document the decision. Keep the identifier, time, reason, command used and any evidence required by your server rules.
- Review appeals consistently. Because the supplied references do not define a universal ban duration or unban command, publish your own appeal and review process for players.

There is no documented, build-independent command in the supplied references for listing every player, setting a ban duration or reversing a ban. Use the player ID presented by the server’s kick list and consult the documentation for your exact installation before promising those functions.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Trying
admin Kickbefore runningadminlogin. - Targeting a partial or ambiguous name instead of the displayed player ID.
- Assuming a kick is a permanent block.
- Calling every kick-ban temporary or permanent without server-version evidence.
- Relying on an old WebAdmin screenshot when the installed build has different controls.
- Posting the administrator password in team or public chat.
- Issuing a ban without recording the reason, which makes later review difficult.
Bottom line for server administrators
For a current-session removal, authenticate and run admin Kick. For removal plus a ban, authenticate and run admin KickBan. Use the player ID whenever the name is ambiguous, and treat ban duration, unban behavior and WebAdmin availability as server-build-specific rather than universal. Manual in-game commands are the documented fallback when the WebAdmin controls described in Tripwire’s September 2020 announcement are unavailable.
