Choose the setup that matches what you need: use Secure Folder to keep an app copy and its content behind a separate lock, Dual Messenger to use a second account in a messaging app Samsung supports, or an employer-provisioned Android Work Profile for a collection of work apps. These options do different jobs, and their availability and menus can vary by Galaxy model and software.

Secure Folder is a user-facing protected space, Dual Messenger is a limited second-instance feature, and a Work Profile is managed by an organization. They are not interchangeable.

Use Secure Folder for a protected app copy
Samsung UK explains that adding an app already installed on the phone to Secure Folder creates a copy. You can sign in to that copy with a different account from the regular app. An app downloaded directly inside Secure Folder exists only there. Each instance has its own sign-in and content from your point of view, but an app’s syncing and behavior can vary; do not assume every app works identically in both spaces. - Open Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Secure Folder. Samsung’s UK instructions give this route; labels may differ on your device.
- Open Secure Folder and use its add-app or plus control to add a copy of an installed app. Alternatively, use the Play Store or Galaxy Store option inside Secure Folder to download an app that will exist only there.
- Open the app inside Secure Folder and sign in to the account you want kept separate from the regular app.
This is a practical choice for separating a work sign-in from a personal sign-in when the app behaves well with separate instances. Samsung describes Secure Folder as protected by Knox encryption; that does not establish that every app’s data or every possible transfer is isolated in every circumstance. Use Dual Messenger for a second messaging account
Dual Messenger is the direct option when you want a second instance of one supported messaging app. It does not clone every app or support every app category: check the list on your own phone. Samsung US notes that screens and settings can differ by carrier, software version, and model. Samsung US Support: Set up Dual Messenger
- Go to Settings > Advanced features > Dual Messenger.
- Turn on the switch beside the app you want, from the apps listed, then tap Install and confirm if prompted.
- Open the second app, identified by a Dual Messenger badge, and sign in with the other account.
- If you want different contacts available to the second instance, enable Use separate contacts list and select the contacts for it.
Samsung says downloads from Dual Messenger may appear in My Files under Internal storage (Dual Messenger) rather than in Gallery. To remove the second apps and their data, return to the Dual Messenger settings page, open More options > Delete all my data, and confirm. Save anything you need before confirming: this action removes the Dual Messenger app data. Samsung US Support: Set up Dual Messenger

Use a Work Profile for a company app set
An Android Work Profile separates work apps and data from personal content. Work apps are marked with a briefcase icon, and users can switch between Personal and Work views or pause work apps so they stop running or generating notifications. It is the relevant option when your job involves several company apps or company data rules—not a setting employees can necessarily create on their own. Samsung says company setup requires an enterprise mobility management solution, Android Device Policy, and an organization-managed app catalog through Managed Google Play. Samsung Knox Manage is one example of an EMM option. If you do not see a Work Profile or your employer’s setup instructions do not explain enrollment, ask your IT administrator whether the company supports BYOD and can provision a profile. A Work Profile gives IT control and visibility over corporate resources, while Samsung describes personal-profile privacy as retained; the actual administration depends on your employer’s configuration. Separate home screens and Do Not Disturb can help organize or silence work use, but they do not create a separate app-data container. If a feature or setting is missing
- Secure Folder is not listed: Support varies, and Samsung says some older phone models may no longer support it. Search Settings for “Secure Folder” and check guidance for your exact model and software. Samsung UK Support: Secure Folder
- Your messaging app is not listed in Dual Messenger: The feature only offers supported apps. Search Settings for “Dual Messenger” and check the available list on the phone. Samsung US Support: Set up Dual Messenger
- The menu route does not match: Search Settings for the feature name. Samsung cautions that Dual Messenger screens and settings may vary by carrier, software version, and model; Secure Folder labels can also change with software.
