If photos are appearing on a shared screen, first identify the device showing them. Apple documents photo syncing through the Photos app on Apple TV 4K, while HomePod is covered as a Siri speaker with personal-content controls. If the screen is an Apple TV connected to your television, turn off iCloud Photos for its default profile. If you mean the HomePod speaker itself, identify the other screen or device involved before changing photo settings.
First identify which device is displaying the photos
Apple’s HomePod guide describes HomePod as a speaker with Siri and personal-content-request features. Apple documents a Photos app and iCloud photo syncing for Apple TV 4K, a separate device. So a photo display associated with a HomePod setup may actually be an Apple TV or another connected screen. Check the device and account or profile that are supplying the images before changing settings.
| Device | Relevant documented setting | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV 4K | Profiles and Accounts > default profile > Photos > iCloud Photos | Whether that profile syncs iCloud Photos to Apple TV 4K |
| HomePod or HomePod mini | Home settings for Personal Content and voice recognition | Personalized Siri requests and access to personal content; not documented as a control for Apple TV photo syncing |
Turn off iCloud Photos on Apple TV 4K
Apple documents this setting for the default profile only: it is the profile that can sync photos and use the Photos app. Menu names or placement can change with tvOS, so check the current menus on your device if the path differs.
- On Apple TV, open Settings > Profiles and Accounts.
- Select the default profile.
- Open Photos.
- Switch iCloud Photos off.
This stops that profile from syncing its iCloud Photos to Apple TV 4K. The first time Photos is opened, Apple says you can choose to sync all iCloud photos or only Shared Albums; that selection is distinct from turning off the profile’s iCloud Photos access. Review the Photos settings for the choice you want. Apple notes that feature availability may depend on region and Apple TV hardware.

Keep HomePod’s Siri privacy settings separate
HomePod voice recognition can support personalized music and media. Apple’s Personal Content settings govern requests such as sending or reading messages, checking a calendar, and making calls. These controls are set per person and for selected HomePod speakers in the Home settings. They address personal Siri access, not the iCloud Photos setting on Apple TV.
Check whether photos are in a shared library or album
Shared Photo Library
Apple describes Shared Photo Library as collaborative: participants can add, edit, and delete content, and photos contributed to the shared library move out of the contributor’s personal library. The creator provides the iCloud storage. Apple Support’s January 14, 2026 article says a Shared Photo Library can include up to five other people. Don’t move sensitive photos into a shared library as a way to hide them from a display; instead, check which account and library the display device is syncing. See Apple’s Shared Photo Library guidance.
