Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchSet the order in YouTube Studio under Content → Podcasts: edit the podcast, choose the intended option in Default Video Order, and save. Use newest to oldest for episodes listeners can watch independently, or oldest to newest when episodes form a sequence. The phrase “live playlist” is ambiguous: the steps below cover a podcast playlist kept up to date, not a playlist being played during an active livestream.
Choose the order that fits the show
YouTube treats a podcast show as a playlist and its episodes as videos; the playlist should contain full-length episodes in their intended listening order. YouTube’s podcast setup guidance also says an MP3 file cannot itself be turned into a podcast episode: an episode is represented by a video.

| Show format | Recommended order | Listener’s entry point |
|---|---|---|
| Episodic: episodes can be watched independently | Newest to oldest | The latest episode appears first |
| Serial: episodes are meant to be followed in sequence | Oldest to newest | The beginning of the story appears first |
YouTube gives these recommendations for podcast ordering and describes the same distinction in its Shows guidance. Choose based on how people should consume the program, not simply on which episode was uploaded most recently.

Check episode and season numbers for a YouTube Show
If you use YouTube Show features, review season and episode numbering after changing playlist order. YouTube says manual playlist order determines assigned episode numbers; without manual ordering, it assigns numbers by publication date from oldest to newest. Changing or deleting one episode’s number or season can automatically update numbers on other episodes. See YouTube’s guidance for Shows and verify the numbering after edits.
Reorder an ordinary playlist instead
If the playlist is not configured as a podcast, edit the saved playlist in YouTube Studio. During playlist creation on a computer, YouTube offers a video arrangement choice; to change an existing playlist, use its editing workflow and drag videos up or down into the intended order. See YouTube’s playlist editing instructions.

Dragging items in the playlist panel on a watch page changes the viewer-side arrangement temporarily. It is not the saved channel order; make changes in the playlist’s edit workflow when you want the intended order to persist. YouTube distinguishes this temporary reorder in its watch-page playlist instructions.
Keep the podcast playlist focused
- Use the podcast playlist for full-length episodes, rather than turning separate season or clips playlists into podcasts.
- Shorts supporting a podcast do not appear in YouTube Music, according to YouTube’s podcast setup guidance.
- When new episodes are added, check the saved sequence and, for Shows, confirm episode and season numbers as well.
What if you mean a playlist during an actual livestream?
YouTube’s podcast and playlist instructions describe podcast playlists, saved playlist editing, and temporary watch-page reordering; they do not establish that these ordering controls behave the same way for a playlist associated with an active livestream. If you mean an actively playing stream rather than a podcast playlist updated over time, these steps may not apply.
