To reduce OBS disconnects during a long YouTube playlist stream, first check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and connection status, then make sure your stable upload capacity can sustain the configured bitrate. Test the stream with YouTube before the event, try Ethernet if you are on Wi-Fi, and isolate software or equipment problems one change at a time. These steps help diagnose and reduce risk; no setting guarantees an uninterrupted stream, and the available guidance does not identify a playlist-specific cause.
First determine what is actually failing
While streaming, check OBS’s connection indicator and dropped-frame counter. OBS’s troubleshooting guide says dropped frames and intermittent disconnections generally indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. If OBS shows no network-dropped frames but viewers report buffering, do not assume the playlist or OBS connection is at fault: viewer-side playback problems need a different investigation.

Also check YouTube’s stream-health status and messages. OBS connection warnings and YouTube stream-health alerts are useful evidence, but neither alone proves that the playlist caused the interruption.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Set a bitrate your connection can sustain
Run an upload-speed check, then compare the result with OBS’s configured video bitrate. OBS’s official troubleshooting guide, dated September 30, 2024, suggests starting around 75% of total upload speed. Treat that as a troubleshooting rule of thumb—not a YouTube requirement, a guaranteed safe ceiling, or proof that a connection can sustain that rate for hours. A speed-test peak does not establish stable capacity throughout a long stream.

If the configured bitrate is too close to or above what your connection reliably uploads, lower it and test again. If you use dynamic bitrate in OBS, understand its trade-off: it can reduce bitrate during congestion, but it is a fallback that lowers video quality rather than a fix for the underlying network problem.
Run a YouTube preflight before the long session
YouTube recommends testing before going live with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, then monitoring stream health and messages. A playlist session may contain repeated or static scenes, but match the expected audio and activity as closely as practical so the test is relevant. As YouTube puts it, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”

- Start a test stream before the scheduled long session.
- Use a representative section of the playlist and the intended OBS output settings.
- Watch OBS’s connection status and dropped-frame counter while also checking YouTube’s stream-health messages.
- Record the time and any warnings or interruptions. If the failure tends to happen only after a particular runtime, note that timing for comparison during another test.
Try a wired connection, then check the network path
If you are streaming over Wi-Fi
OBS recommends trying a wired connection because Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. Connect the computer to the router with Ethernet and repeat the preflight. This is a diagnostic change, not proof that Wi-Fi was the only cause: the router, cable, ISP, or route to the ingest server can still be involved.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf Ethernet does not help
Inspect the router, modem, network cable, network interface, and other network devices. Test or substitute components only when there is a reason to suspect a fault; replacing equipment immediately is not a reliable first diagnostic step. OBS also lists outdated network drivers as a possible cause, so check whether the network adapter’s driver needs attention.

Check OBS network options without changing everything at once
- Bind to IP: Keep this set to Default, as OBS recommends.
- Network optimizations and TCP pacing: OBS identifies these as Windows-only options that some users report can help. Test them individually and compare results rather than changing several settings at once.
- IP family: You can test IPv4-only. If it makes no difference, return to the default IPv4 and IPv6 setting.
- Dynamic bitrate: This may help OBS cope with congestion by lowering bitrate, but the trade-off is reduced video quality. It does not resolve why the connection is congested or unstable.
Isolate VPN, security, and network-optimization software
VPNs, security software, and bundled network-optimization utilities can interfere with streaming traffic. If one is in use, test whether it is related by changing one factor at a time and checking the result in a preflight. Review security software rules for OBS; if a diagnostic test requires temporarily disabling protection, re-enable it afterward and add an OBS exception if the test indicates that is appropriate. Avoid leaving security protection off as a workaround.
When to contact your ISP
If the bitrate is sustainable, a wired test and software checks do not resolve the problem, contact your ISP. Provide the times of interruptions, OBS dropped-frame counts and connection symptoms, configured bitrate, whether you used Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and YouTube’s stream-health messages. Congestion or routing changes can be outside your control, so those details may help the ISP investigate the connection path.
